Further, due to variations in the optical characteristics of the focusing lens, variations in beam diameter occurred. This optical axis shift causes deterioration in optical coupling loss, and variations in beam diameter cause slow rise times.

This is used in a measuring device called an OTDR (optical pulse tester). OTDR is a comprehensive evaluation device for communication networks made up of optical fibers, which detects defects in optical fibers, transmission losses inherent in optical fibers, connection losses of optical fibers, etc. FIG. 1 shows the basic configuration of the acousto-optic switch. The laser pulse emerging from the input optical fiber passes through an undriven acousto-optic element and enters the output optical fiber. In this case, the output optical fiber is the optical fiber to be inspected. The laser pulse component reflected in the output optical fiber returns through the output optical fiber, enters the driven acousto-optic element, undergoes black diffraction by the ultrasonic diffraction grating, and enters the prism. After being guided, the light enters an optical fiber for outputting diffracted light and is guided to an optical sensor.

There is Rayleigh scattering that undergoes scattering. Of this Rayleigh scattered light, the component that completely returns in the direction of incidence is called backscattered light, and the transmission loss specific to the optical fiber can be evaluated based on the strength of the backscattered light. Furthermore, the fracture location can be evaluated by measuring the intensity and transit time of Fresnel reflected light.

できる。[Function] In the present invention, the optical axes of the optical fiber and the condensing lens are aligned by minimizing the clearance of the optical axis guide portion and aligning their central axes. However, due to variations in the length of the condensing lens, the beam diameter of the emitted light varies. Therefore,
When connected to an OTDR (optical pulse tester), the rise time varied depending on each acousto-optic switch. Therefore, we divided the fiber head with a built-in condensing lens into a mount base and a sleeve, connected the mount base and sleeve with a threaded part, rotated the sleeve, and connected the optical boom output surface of the optical fiber to the condensing lens. By changing the gap between the beams, the beam diameter can be adjusted to fall within the desired range.

Stabilization becomes possible. Furthermore, after assembly, only those with poor characteristics can be adjusted by a simple operation using screws, which also has the effect of improving yield. The gap between the optical fiber end face and the focusing lens is filled with optical grease.
This creates a state in which glass appears to exist continuously between the end face of the optical fiber and the condensing lens, and optical loss due to the gap becomes extremely small.
