Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the yellowing of a product by performing the gamma-ray radiation sterilization of the vinyl chloride resin product under the existence of alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl chloride resin product and alcohol are put in the packing material of a sealing system, and gamma-rays are radiated from the outside of the sealing system. A medical apparatus requiring gamma-ray radiation sterilization, e.g. a catheter, a blood bag, a tube, is referred as the vinyl chloride resin product. Ethanol is most suitable for the alcohol. The alcohol 0.3-2.0 pts.wt., preferably 0.5-1.0 pts.wt., is used against the vinyl chloride resin product 100 pts.wt. for gamma-ray radiation sterilization. The yellowing of the product can be prevented.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Industrial Field of Application] The present invention relates to a novel method for preventing yellowing of vinyl chloride resin products. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for preventing yellowing of vinyl chloride resin products in which the irradiation is performed in the presence of alcohol during gamma irradiation sterilization of vinyl chloride resin products.

Vinyl chloride resin is used as a material for tubes, catheters, blood bags, etc. for infusions and blood transfusion sets, and when these products are sterilized by irradiation with gamma rays, the products deteriorate over time due to the dehydrochlorination reaction. Turns yellow. In order to prevent this yellowing, various stabilizers such as epoxy soybean oil and metal soap have conventionally been added to vinyl chloride resin, but their effects are not always sufficient.

The present inventor has completed the present invention as a result of extensive research into methods for effectively preventing the yellowing described above. This is a method for preventing yellowing of vinyl resin products, which is characterized in that the irradiation is performed under the following conditions. Furthermore, the present invention provides 0.3 parts by weight of alcohol per 100 parts by weight of the vinyl chloride resin product.
This is an anti-yellowing method in which 2.0 parts by weight is present.

Examples of vinyl chloride resin products include medical equipment that requires gamma irradiation sterilization, such as catheters, blood bags, tubes, and the like. As the alcohol, lower alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, and jso-propanol are used, and ethanol is most preferred. The amount of alcohol used is 0.3 to 2.0 parts by weight, preferably 0.5 to 1.0 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the vinyl chloride resin product to be sterilized by gamma irradiation.

This value varies slightly depending on the empty volume of the package. The amount of alcohol added may be large; however, if it is too large, it may not evaporate and may remain in the package, making it inconvenient to wipe it off before use. If it is too small, the yellowing prevention effect will be lost.

γ線照射は従来の方法と同様にして行なわれる。Gamma irradiation is performed in the same manner as in conventional methods.
