As shown in the cross-sectional view in Figure 1, a plastic optical fiber consists of a core part 1 with a diameter of about 1 m/m and a clad part 2, and an outer sheath of plastic such as PVC or PE with a diameter of about 2 to 2.5 m/m. Covered by 3.

Therefore, the alignment of the connection part of the plastic jacket is fully satisfied as long as the eccentricity between the jacket and the core is kept below 0.1m/m, so the connection is easier than with general optical fibers. It is used as a noise prevention measure in signal lines of electrical equipment, and its range of applications is expanding. The conventional connection method is to cut two optical fibers with a sharp edged tool such as a knife or razor, and then connect them via an optical connector by tightening screws so that the end faces are in contact with each other with a small distance between them. Connector connections or other methods include providing a sleeve and making adhesive connections within the sleeve.

However, each method has advantages and disadvantages; for example, the connector method is expensive, and the adhesive takes a long time to harden, making it impossible to remove it.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a connecting fitting for interconnecting the end surfaces of plastic optical fibers, in which an opening is provided in the axial direction of a hollow cylinder formed of a semi-rigid member, and the opening is located opposite to the opening. A plurality of claws are provided on each end face, the tips of which extend into the interior of the hollow cylinder, and the claws provided on one end face and the claws provided on the other end face are formed alternately. It is characterized by

In FIG. 2, the connecting fitting 4 is formed into a hollow cylindrical shape using copper, aluminum alloy, etc.
Claws 8 are provided on opposing end surfaces 6 and 7 of the opening 5. The claws 8 are provided offset from each other. This is to prevent the claws 8 from overlapping each other during caulking, as shown in FIG. The plastic optical fibers 9, 9' to be connected in FIG. 3 are cut with a sharp knife as described above, and are fixed by caulking the connecting fitting 4 while keeping a slight distance between them while being pressed against each other. For caulking, use a special tool, apply pressure evenly along the outer shape of the connection fitting 4, and
It is fixed by inserting it into the plastic jacket. The special tool can be obtained, for example, by attaching a pair of upper and lower recesses having the same shape as the circumferential angle forming the outer shape of the connecting fitting to the tips of pliers. Furthermore, a more complete connection mechanism can be obtained by wrapping adhesive tape or covering the shrink tube in the connected state.

FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along line A-A' in FIG. As shown in the figure, a plurality of parallel claws 8 along the axis of the cylindrical portion of the connecting fitting 4 are inserted into the polyethylene jacket 3 by caulking. The tip of the claw 8 deforms toward the center of the shaft, forms a wedge, and is firmly fixed.

As described above, according to the connecting fitting of the present invention, the claws provided on the end faces of the opposing openings are provided alternately, and these claws are directed toward the inside of the hollow cylinder. With this configuration, the connecting fitting can be formed into an almost perfect cylindrical shape after being crimped, and the pair of optical fiber ends can be aligned easily and economically.
