) through the microwave coupling window (4) for impedance matching to efficiently connect the laser head (6).
The microwaves are concentrated between the ridges (82) and (83). Due to the strong electric field of the concentrated microwaves, the laser gas sealed in the discharge space (67) is destroyed by discharge to generate plasma, and the laser medium is excited. Here, the laser conditions are obtained by flowing cooling water into the cooling channel (68) to cool the discharge plasma and appropriately selecting the discharge conditions such as the pressure of the laser gas, and the facing laser resonator mirror (5). Laser oscillation light can be obtained by amplifying the light.

Only very flat or very small rectangular or circular beams could be extracted. In order to focus this laser beam (8) and use it for processing etc., the extracted laser beam (
8) into a laser beam with good convergence using a beam converter such as a beam expander provided outside the gas laser device. Further, the polarization state of the rectangular or circular laser beam (8) taken out from the gas laser device having the above configuration is linearly polarized light, and has anisotropy depending on the processing direction. To eliminate this,
It was necessary to provide an external phase adjustment device to circularly polarize the beam. As described above, since a beam conversion device and a phase adjustment device are required outside the device, there is a problem that the device as a whole becomes large and expensive.

となった。[Function] In the present invention, a laser beam generated in a flat discharge space of a microwave circuit and emitted from a resonator mirror is guided to a waveguide by at least two beam reflecting mirrors,
The laser beam received into the waveguide through the laser beam introduction hole is allowed to propagate through the waveguide, and is then emitted to the outside through the laser beam extraction hole. The beam diameter has been expanded, and it has become possible to adjust the beam diameter to improve the beam focusing ability. In addition, since a collimation lens is provided near the laser beam extraction hole,
The beam divergence angle has been reduced, making it easier to adjust the beam diameter.

Since the laser beam propagates twice in the waveguide, the beam diameter is further expanded, and it is also folded back into the waveguide, and when the guided laser beam is bent, the linearly polarized light is The laser beam is circularly polarized.

.. The diameter of the beam after being extracted from the waveguide (2) is approximately 10 mmφ, so this beam must be sufficiently focused by adjusting the beam diameter using a lens etc. to improve beam focusing performance. For example, it becomes possible to perform processing such as drilling and cutting metals and ceramics.

The beam diameter does not change much even if the transmission distance changes,
Machining performance has not changed, and stable machining is now possible. The reason why the laser beam (8) is shifted from the center of the waveguide (2) is to prevent the laser beam (8) from hitting the magnetron antenna (11). It can be propagated in any part.

The figure is a side view of essential parts of the same embodiment. In this example, the beam (8) taken out from the resonator mirror (5b)

The laser beam (8) is made incident on the 174-wavelength retardation plate (90) at an angle of 45@ from the center line of the device (indicated by a dashed line) as shown in FIG. By guiding the beam into the tube (2), the beam is made circularly polarized. By setting the linearly polarized beam to the 1/4 wavelength retardation plate (90) so that the polarization plane of the beam and the reflection surface by the 174-wavelength retardation plate (90) are 45'', The beam reflected by the wavelength retardation plate (90) is circularly polarized.Furthermore, FIGS. As shown, when the beam is folded at the end of the waveguide (2), the laser beam (8) is directed to the center line of the device by the folding beam reflecting mirror (57) against the quarter-wave retardation plate (90). A similar effect can be obtained with a configuration in which the light is incident at an angle of 45@ from (indicated by the - dotted chain line) and guided into the waveguide (2) again.

This has the effect of realizing a compact gas laser device that can obtain a laser beam with good focusing performance.

Since the light is polarized, there is no anisotropy in the processing direction, which has the effect of facilitating processing.

Since the laser beam is made to propagate further, the laser beam is propagated twice in the waveguide, further expanding the beam diameter, making it easier to adjust the beam diameter, and also making the laser beam circularly polarized. This method also has the effect of providing a laser beam with good convergence and easy processing.
