It is manufactured by mixing fine natural graphite in the form of powder or flakes with a binder, molding, and sintering. Therefore, it is not made of graphite alone, but is a mixture of graphite and carbon.

In the extract method, natural graphite is immersed in a mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid, then heated to expand the graphite layers, then washed to remove the acid, and formed into a film by high-pressure pressing. That's what I do. However, this film-like graphite is inferior to single-crystal graphite in various respects in terms of properties, and its film strength is also low. Further, there are also problems in that a large amount of acid is required for production and harmful gases such as SOx and NOx are generated. In addition, there was the problem that the acid used in manufacturing could not be completely removed and remained, and when graphite was used, the residual acid oozed out and caused metal corrosion.

The idea is to use it as a. In this case, it is known that battery characteristics are greatly influenced by the properties of graphite or carbon. However, it is not clear what properties graphite or carbon should have to achieve excellent battery characteristics. Therefore, the current situation is that we have no choice but to actually make electrodes from various graphite or carbon materials, test them, and select the most suitable one for use. Graphite for battery electrode materials does not yet exist, and its realization is strongly desired.

In other words, in a secondary battery in which the graphite electrode of this invention is used as an anode and the lithium electrode is used as a cathode, during discharging, lithium ions at the cathode easily enter (dope) between the layers of anode graphite, forming an interlayer compound, and during charging. , the lithium ions that had penetrated between the graphite layers can easily escape (dedope).

ある。When forming an electrode using only the obtained film-like graphite, it is desirable that the thickness of the raw material film is in the range of 400 μm or less (more preferably 5 to 200 μm). If the thickness of the raw film exceeds 400 microns, the film will collapse (tatter) due to gas generated from inside the film during the heat treatment process, as described later.
This is because it becomes difficult to construct a high-quality electrode by itself.

It is also possible to actively powder the graphite obtained in this invention and use it in the form of a composite with a fluororesin. In the case of a composite body, the ratio (weight ratio) of graphite to fluororesin is suitably in the range of graphite:fluororesin=50:1 to 2:1.

During firing, it is effective to use a pressurized processing atmosphere to suppress the influence of gases generated during the graphitization process, especially when the film thickness is 100 Am or more. The magnitude of the atmospheric pressure varies depending on the thickness of the film, but usually a pressure in the range of O1 to sow is sufficient. After firing, it may be further subjected to rolling treatment if necessary.

Graphite intercalation compounds, that is, compounds in which molecules, ions, atoms, etc. are inserted between graphite hexagonal network planar layers, are characterized by their greatest diversity, and the substances that generate intercalation compounds are alkali metals, halogens, etc. In addition to single substances, many metal halides, acids,
Even for a wide range of substances, such as ammonia, the layered structure (stage) and composition vary depending on the reaction conditions. In such an intercalation compound, due to the interaction between the guest material (intercalant) inserted between the layers and the host graphite, (1) charge transfer occurs between the intercalant and graphite, and electrostatic attraction is created between the two. They can be roughly divided into two types: (2) those that have a covalent bond with an intercalant and a carbon atom (covalent bond type). The charge transfer type graphite intercalation compound is further classified into a donor type graphite intercalation compound when the ink-current is electron-donating to the host graphite surface.
In the case of electron-accepting properties, it is called an acceptor-type graphite intercalation compound. These intercalation compounds can be formed by a gas phase constant pressure reaction method, a liquid phase catalytic reaction method, a solid phase pressurization method, a solvent method, etc., and an appropriate method is used as necessary.

The temperature was raised to 1000°C at a rate of 10°C/min in nitrogen gas using a vacuum cleaner (F-8 type), and the temperature was kept at 1000°C for 1 hour for preliminary heat treatment. Next, the obtained carbonaceous film was set in a graphite cylindrical container so as to be expandable and contractible, and heated at 20°C/r using an ultra-high temperature furnace (Model 46-5 manufactured by Shinsei Denko ■).
The temperature was raised at a rate of nln. The maximum temperature is 20
The graphite was fired at temperatures of 00°C, 2400°C, 2800°C, and 3000°C to obtain four types of graphite. For comparison, graphite (comparative example) was also obtained which was fired at 1800°C, which did not reach the maximum temperature of 2000°C.
