and its alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts are described in US Pat. No. 3,689,486 as synthetic sweeteners having about 130 times the sweetness of sucrose. US Pat. No. 4,256,730 also describes the use of this compound or a salt thereof in oral compositions.

The potassium salt of 1-2,2-dioxide has a much higher sweetness than sucrose. However, the sweetness of this compound is only about half that of saccharin.

It is limited by the need to use relatively large amounts compared to saccharin to achieve this degree. This is not only because 6-methyloxathiazinone dioxide is relatively expensive, but also because it requires the use of this compound in the form of a salt, such as the potassium salt, and in relatively large quantities. A disadvantage is that it produces a metallic aftertaste when used.

料としては好ましく使用することができない。 For example, to obtain the sweetness of two teaspoons (9 g) of sugar, it is necessary to use about 70 g of the potassium salt of 6-methyl-oxathiazinone dioxide. This amount provides the necessary sweetness, but results in a pronounced metallic aftertaste. Thus, this compound cannot be used favorably as a table top sweetener, not only because 70 mg of this compound is relatively expensive, but also because it imparts an undesirable aftertaste.

First, the combination of sugar and potassium bitartrate has the effect of increasing the sweetness of the methyloxa sweetener. Sugar and potassium bitartrate have been used to eliminate the bitter aftertaste of sweeteners, and to date increasing the sweetening effect of synthetic sweeteners has been limited to the supplementary use of extremely sweet substances such as glycyrrhidine. (U.S. Pat. No. 4,254,154).

What is most surprising is that the addition of another potassium salt, namely potassium bitartrate, to the sugar, sugar alcohol or polysaccharide does not increase the metallic aftertaste, but rather works to remove it. That's what I'm doing.

Or maltol or ethyl maltol is added to the composition to further increase the sweetness of the methyloxa sweetener. Talin and/or maltol or ethyl maltol can increase the sweetness of methyloxa sweeteners when used alone, i.e. talin alone or maltol or ethyl maltol alone or talin and maltol or ethyl maltol, but It is not possible to achieve a sufficient increase in sweetness with significant effect on the amount of methyloxa sweetener used, and furthermore, the metallic aftertaste of methyloxa sweeteners is not eliminated. However, when used in the compositions of the invention, i.e. with the methyloxa sweetener and sugar, sugar alcohol or polysaccharide and potassium bitartrate,
In addition to a reduction in metallic aftertaste, a desirable increase in sweetness occurs.
