[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Industrial Field of Application] The present invention relates to a friction pad as a brake component, and is particularly intended to prevent outflow of gas produced by thermal decomposition of the pad.

Friction pads are used in disc brakes, etc. to suppress the rotation of a disc rotor, etc. by pressing the friction surface against the disc rotor, etc., and its structure has multiple through holes as shown in Figure 1 A, B, and C. A pad material 3 is closely attached to one surface of a backing metal 2 provided with a pad material 1, and the pad material 3 is also filled into the through hole 1, and the surface of the padding material 3 opposite to the backing metal 2 is used as a friction surface. 4, which produces a braking action.

By the way, if the pad material reaches a temperature of 500℃ or higher during use of such friction pads, the phenol resin and cashew dust that make up the pad material will thermally decompose, producing gases such as benzene, toluene, xylene, phenol, cresol, and xylenol. is generated. These gases are applied to the surface of the pad material (A in Fig. 1) filled in the through hole on the side opposite to the pad material
However, all of these gases are flammable and can easily catch fire, causing damage to the rubber parts that make up the brake system. It was damaged and was a problem.

With this in mind, after various studies, we have developed a friction pad that does not allow gas to leak from the surface of the through-hole pad material even at temperatures above 500°C. In a friction pad formed by closely contacting the pad material and filling the through hole with a pad material, at least the surface portion of the through hole pad material on the other side of the backing plate is provided with a scale-like filler made of mica (mica) and a heat resistant material of 500°C or more. It is characterized by being coated by mixing with a resin having the following properties.

[Operation] Painting the heat-resistant resin mixed with the scale-like filler on the surface of the through-hole pad material in this way is the second step.
As shown in Figures A and B, in the painted part, a large number of fillers 5 overlap to cover the surface A of the pad material, so even if the pad material 3 becomes high temperature due to frictional heat and gas is generated, there are through holes that serve as gas outflow ports. This is because the surface A of the pad material is sealed, so there is no gas leakage. Mica as such a scale-like filler can also improve the heat insulation properties of the coated area. Note that polysiloxane resin or the like is suitable as the heat-resistant resin.

Obtaining such a sealing layer by painting is advantageous from the viewpoint of workability, and in particular, the desired purpose can be achieved extremely easily with the final coating, which greatly contributes to cost reduction. Furthermore, it is less expensive than adding parts such as shims to prevent gas leakage, and has the advantage that it does not adversely affect other functions such as brake drag.

In addition, there have been friction pads in the past where surfaces other than the friction surface of the pad material were painted, but the purpose of these conventional products was to prevent water from entering from the outside and prevent rust from forming on the backing metal. Therefore, the purpose of the present invention, which is to prevent gas from flowing out from inside, is not taken into account.
