されてその出力軸に可動刃２がボルトなどで取付
けられ、さらに取付けられた固定刃３とで刈刃Ｘ
が形成され、可動刃２と固定刃３との間で往復運
動により剪断作用を営むことができるようになつ
ている。前記クランク機構を収容しているケーシ
ング４に対して、保持機構２０の構成部材である
刈刃の運動方向と直交する方向に沿つて張出した
支持軸２１が取付けられており、この支持軸２１
の端部を垂直方向に沿つて延びるハンドル杆２２
の下端部２２Ａで締着固定し、ハンドル杆２２の
上端部は逆Ｌ型に曲げられてグリツプ２２Ｂが取
付けられている。
このハンドル杆２２の中間部で一体化されたハ
ンドル杆２３が作業者の前側を横断する状態で延
び、その先端部は水平面に沿つてＬ型に曲げられ
グリツプ２３Ａが取付けられている。さらに、ハ
ンドル杆２２の上端部には作業者の肩掛バンド２
４の端部が固定されている。
さらに、前記支持軸２１を取付けてあるケーシ
ング４に対して、プロテクタユニツト３０の構成
部材である支持ステー３１，３１がねじ止め固定
されており、この支持ステー３１，３１に対し
て、断面形状Ｕ型プロテクタ３２が長孔３２Ａを
介してボルト３３により取付けられている。この
長孔３２Ａに沿つてプロテクタ３２を移動させる
ことで、支持ステー３１に対するプロテクタ３２
の相対位置を選択できるようになつていて、この
プロテクタ３２が作業者の膝部分と前記可動刃
２、固定刃３による刈刃Ｘとの間を隔てている。
そして、畦畔の草刈り作業であるが、小型エン
ジン１の始動で刈刃Ｘである可動刃２を駆動さ
せ、固定刃３との間で草に対する剪断作用を行う
のであるが、その作業状態は第２図に示されてい
るように、作業者Ｗは肩掛けバンド２４を袈裟掛
けに掛け、左右の手でグリツプ２２Ｂ，２３Ａを
握つて草刈機を支え、その刈刃部分を畦畔の法面
Ｋに沿わせる。このとき、一方のグリツプ２２Ｂ
が刈刃Ｘの上方に位置するため、法面Ｋに刈刃Ｘ
を正しく沿わせることができる。また、作業者Ｗ
の反対側に他方のグリツプ２３Ａがあるため、作
業者Ｗは、法面Ｋと平行な方向に向かつて立つこ
とができる。そして、体の両側でグリツプ２２Ｂ
及び２３Ａを握るため、無理な作業姿勢を強いる
ことなく、且つ法面Ｋに対して草刈機が所定の位
置関係に保たれる。また、刈刃Ｘを法面Ｋ方向に
押しやることも、容易になる。
このようにして、作業者Ｗは、法面Ｋに沿つて
歩行しながら法面Ｋの草刈り作業を行う。このと
き、作業者Ｗの脚と刈刃Ｘとの間にプロテクタ３
２があるため、法面Ｋ方向に押しやる力によつて
刈刃Ｘが異常に作業者に接近することがない。そ
のため、刈刃Ｘの駆動で作業着、長靴等が切断さ
れることがなく、作業者Ｗの安全が図られる。
