Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce bending of a tensioner and also to reduce vibrations of the tensioner itself and a cam chain so as to prevent generation of noise by installing a dynamic damper on the rear side of that portion of the tensioner which is halfway between the support shaft of the tensioner and an adjuster. CONSTITUTION:A tensioner 6 has a support shaft 7 provided at one end thereof and axially mounted on a crank case 8 and disposed on the outside of a cam chain 5, a spring 9 presses the other end portion of the tensioner 6 so as to keep the cam chain 5 under strain. A dynamic damper 11 having an appropriate spring constant and weight is installed on the rear side of a portion halfway between the support shaft 7 of the tensioner 6 and an adjustor 10. The tensioner 6 is bent mostly at its portion halfway between the support shaft 7 and the adjuster 10 but this portion is supported by the damper 11 and so bending of the tensioner 6 is prevented and vibration can be reduced. The tensioner 6 is controlled by sandwiching an elastic body 13 of synthetic resin or the like between two core plates 12 and covering the whole outside of the tensioner with an elastic body 14. Vibration of the cam chain 5 can thus be reduced, and noise can also be reduced.
