Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent attaching by heating an antifouling material consisting essentially of an insoluble oil, liquefying the material, covering the periphery of a rope material or both surfaces of a perforated sheetlike material with the liquefied antifouling material, then cooing the antifouling material and adhering the antifouling material in the form of jelly thereto. CONSTITUTION:Marine attaching organisms are prevented from attaching to a rope material, etc., by heating an antifouling material consisting essentially of an insoluble oil (e.g. machine oil, edible oil or waste oil) at 140-180 deg.C, coating the periphery of the rope material or both surfaces of a perforated sheetlike material with the aforementioned liquefied antifouling material, then cooling the antifouling material and adhering the antifouling material in the form of jelly thereto. Since the marine attaching organisms cannot attach thereto by effects of the oil and the aforementioned organisms show repellency for the oil, attaching of shells such as barnacle or seaweeds is not caused at all. The aforementioned method has advantages such as no fear of marine pollution with elution of toxic substances without requiring labor in adhesion of the antifouling material.
