Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance light-weight, flexibility, folding property and durability by constituting air bag base cloth of a textile composed of mixed twist threads of thermoplastic synthetic fiber and fiber of which raw-thread strength is over a specific value and a strength retension ratio at a specific temperature is over a specific value. CONSTITUTION:The air bag base cloth is constituted of a textile composed of mixed twist threads of thermoplastic synthetic fiber and fiber of which the raw thread strength is over 15g/d and a strength retention ratio at 200 deg.C is over 80%, and the textile is a non-surface-coating textile. Consequently, the high-temperature residue occurring due to explosibe combustion at the time of air bag actuation is effectively trapped in between the threads, thereby eliminating danger to a human body and further enhancing light-weight, flexibility and folding properties of the formed air bag. Further, the drop in the air bag burst pressure due to rubbing with module edges at the time of air bag actuation and expanding can be prevented.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Industrial Field of Application) The present invention relates to an airbag base fabric for vehicles, particularly for automobiles. More specifically, the present invention relates to an airbag base fabric that is lightweight, flexible, and durable, has good expansion response when the airbag is activated, and is free from the danger of high-temperature residue generated by combustion of gunpowder. (Prior Art) As a vehicle airbag base fabric, a fabric made of synthetic fibers lined with an elastomer such as synthetic rubber or natural rubber is generally known. However, in order to improve the performance of an airbag, the elastomer lining must be made to a certain thickness, so such base fabrics have a high basis weight and are hard, making them difficult to fold and requiring a large storage volume.

In order to improve these drawbacks, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 64-702
An airbag made of a fabric made of No. 48 fiber yarn with a strength of 15 g/d or more and a strength retention rate of 80% or more at 200°C, and whose fabric weight is below a specific range. A base fabric is proposed. However, although this airbag base fabric has improved flexibility and foldability, and has a smaller storage volume, when the airbag is activated, high-temperature residue generated from the combustion of gunpowder passes through the base fabric and comes into contact with the human body. Danger remains an issue.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) In view of the problems of the prior art as described above, an object of the present invention is to reduce the weight, improve flexibility, foldability, and durability, and reduce the amount of explosives when the airbag is activated. An object of the present invention is to provide an airbag base fabric that poses no danger to the human body due to high-temperature residue generated by combustion.

(Means for Solving the Problems) As a result of studies conducted to achieve the above-mentioned object, it was found that a fabric made of a mixed yarn of thermoplastic synthetic fibers and heat-resistant fibers having specific physical property values can be used at high temperatures. It has been discovered that the residue can be effectively trapped between the yarn-system.
This can be achieved by using an airbag base fabric made of a fabric made of yarn mixed with fibers having a strength retention rate of 80% or more at 200°C or more at g/d or more.

Thermoplastic synthetic fibers used in the mixed yarn constituting the airbag base fabric of the present invention include polyamide fibers and polyester fibers. In addition, if the yarn strength is 15 g/d or more, 20
Fibers with a strength retention rate of 80% or more at 0°C (hereinafter referred to as heat-resistant fibers) include aramid fibers typified by copolymers of paraphenylene terephthalamide and aromatic ethers, fully aromatic polyester fibers, and para-phenylene terephthalamide fibers. These include sulfon-based fibers such as phenylene sulfon and polysulfon, carbon fibers, etc. By using a twisted yarn containing such heat-resistant fibers with high strength properties as the constituent yarns of the airbag base fabric, it is possible to It is possible to capture the high-temperature residue generated by the combustion of gunpowder and prevent it from scattering to the outside of the airbag, and it is also possible to reduce the weight of the airbag. The heat-resistant fiber contained in the mixed twisted yarn is 20 to 80% by weight. is preferred.

In addition, the fabric made of mixed twisted yarns constituting the airbag base fabric of the present invention is not coated with elastomer or the like on the surface, which improves the airflow rate setting, weight reduction, foldability, etc., and reduces storage volume. This is preferable because it eliminates the need to provide gas vent holes when molded into an airbag.

(3) Although heat-resistant fibers alone can capture high-temperature residues generated by combustion of gunpowder, heat-resistant fibers generally have low elongation and have low ability to absorb energy to the human body when an airbag is activated. Therefore, by using a yarn mixed with thermoplastic synthetic fibers, the swelling response of the airbag can be improved.

(4) Heat-resistant fibers have low abrasion resistance due to their low elongation, but by twisting them with thermoplastic synthetic fibers, airbags can be activated and air caused by friction with the module edge during deployment. A drop in bag and bust pressure can be prevented.

(5) The thermal shrinkage behavior of heat-resistant m-fibers and thermoplastic synthetic fibers is significantly different, and during heat treatment to reduce dimensional changes in woven fabrics, simple mixed fiber yarns will wrinkle and deteriorate the appearance quality. However, this can be prevented by using mixed twisted yarns.
