Abstract

PURPOSE:To compensate temperature, to obtain superior display performance even in low-temperature environment, and to improve the utilization efficiency of light by incorporating a matrix-shaped heater. CONSTITUTION:The matrix-shaped heater 10 made of a metallic film is provided on the opposite surface of a color filter substrate from a color filter. Namely, the matrix heater 10 is provided in matrix on the entire display surface by Y buses 13 and X buses 14 and heater terminals 11 are provided at the four corners. The Y buses 13 are provided on all prolongations of signal lines and the X buses 14 are provided on prolongations of scanning lines intermittently in sequence closely in the center of the display surface and roughly on the terminal sides. Consequently, superior display characteristics which are fast in response speed at low temperature are obtained and the effective utilization of light is never impeded.

The above-mentioned conventional matrix liquid crystal display has an active element and a black matrix, so it has excellent display characteristics. However, there is a problem that the temperature range in which this excellent characteristic is exhibited is narrow, and it is difficult to use a liquid crystal material that can provide a particularly high-speed response. If
There was an essential problem that the response speed deteriorated significantly at low temperatures. It is well known that temperature compensation can be performed for this purpose, but unlike conventional reflective matrix liquid crystal displays, a transmissive type must be used in order to display color, for example, as shown in Figure 7. Inserting the heater panel 70 between the liquid crystal display module 71 and the backlight 72 as in the above has the disadvantage that it hinders the effective use of light.

Next, the present invention will be explained with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a plan view for explaining a matrix heater on a color filter substrate of a matrix liquid crystal display according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The matrix heaters 10 are provided in a matrix shape by Y buses 13 and X buses 14 over the entire display surface, and heater terminals 11 are provided at the four corners. Y
Bus 13 is provided on all extensions of the signal line, and
The buses 14 are sequentially and intermittently provided as extensions of the scanning lines so that they are dense at the center of the display surface and coarse at the terminal side. The matrix heater 10 is made of Cr or NiCr with a film thickness of 2000 nm and is provided in the shape of a heater bath 20 on the opposite surface of the color filter substrate 21 where the color filter 22 is provided, as shown in the cross-sectional view of FIG. The heater bus 20 is provided at the boundary between different colors of the color filters 22 with a width W that is larger than the gap width between the display electrodes of the TFT substrate. Further, as shown in FIG. 3, the matrix liquid crystal display of the present invention has heater terminals 27 provided at the four corners of the color filter substrate 21.
A polarizing plate 26 is provided to cover the display surface and matrix heater 23.

W etc. can also be used. Further, if the film thickness is 1500 Å or more, a light shielding effect as a black matrix for color separation can be achieved. Matrix heaters are densely packed in the center of the display surface and between the terminals, and the current network is controlled as input and output for two of the four terminals, so that even if the wire resistance is the same, the amount of heat generated is uniform across the surface. Become. or,
The Y bus in the signal line direction, where color separation due to leakage light is difficult, is provided throughout the area, and the X bus in the scanning line direction, which has less influence, is
The buses are provided in the entire area, and by thinning out the X buses in the scanning line direction, which have less influence, the above-mentioned sparse and dense matrix network can be obtained. In addition,
Since the heater terminals are provided at the four corners, they do not affect the terminal arrangement for display. Also, the matrix heater is provided in the position where a conventional black matrix should be provided, so it does not reduce the efficiency of light use by the heater. Moreover, since the matrix heater is installed on the opposite side of the color filter substrate from the color filter, the temperature of the surface that heats the liquid crystal is moderated by the thickness of the color filter substrate, resulting in a more uniform temperature. There is. Furthermore, since the heater and the color filter do not come into direct contact with each other, deterioration of the color filter due to heat generation can be prevented.

By adjusting the voltage applied to the matrix heater as described above, the temperature of the liquid crystal can be reduced by -20% without the heater.

However, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the structure is obtained by adding the following process when patterning the matrix heater shown in FIG. 1 before the liquid crystal display is assembled. That is, as shown in FIG. 4, the heater terminals 44 are anodized except for the contact portions 43, and as shown in FIG. 5(a), a black oxide film 46 is provided on the surface of the heater bath 45. In addition to the advantages described in the first embodiment, the liquid crystal display device of this embodiment having a matrix heater provided with the black oxide film 46 and the black resin film 47 also has the following features. . In the case of the first embodiment, the heater bus line is metal white, and when the display is visually observed,
The whiteness biased the display characteristics and caused deterioration of contrast, etc., but by turning the heater bus line black, this effect could be eliminated.

As explained above, the present invention has the effect of being able to compensate for the temperature by incorporating a heater, and providing excellent display performance even in a low-temperature environment. Further, in the present invention, since the heater is in a matrix shape, it also serves as a black matrix, and the efficiency of light utilization is not reduced.

Furthermore, the matrix heater of the present invention has the effect of making the temperature distribution uniform by providing a density. Since the matrix heater of the present invention has terminals at the four corners of the display surface,
It has little effect on the drive terminal portion of the display, and since the heater is provided on the opposite side of the color filter substrate to where the color filter is provided, it has the effect of equalizing the temperature and preventing deterioration of the color filter. Furthermore, since the heater is covered with a polarizing plate, the life of the heater can be extended. Furthermore, since the heater surface is blackened, an increase in the white level of the display can be prevented, which has the advantage of preventing deterioration of contrast.
