Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the rigidity of a reinforcing portion for a terminal without increasing the thickness of the reinforcing portion by sticking a reinforcing layer of a polyester film via a thin layer of a specific adhesive resin composition from a single face of a conductor exposed from an end portion to a single face of a cover of a polyester film. CONSTITUTION:A polyester film reinforcing layer 4 is stuck via a thin layer 5 of an adhesive resin composition from a single face of each flat band conductor 2 exposed from the end portion of a tape wire 1 to a single face of a polyester film cover 3, the tape wire 1 comprising a number of flat band conductors 2 embedded in the polyester film cover 3 while in parallel spaced-apart relationship to each other. As the above adhesive composition, an adhesive resin composition is used which is composed of a thermoplastic copolymer polyester resin, an epoxy radical contained ethylene copolymer, and a thermoplastic resin consisting of one or two kinds of materials selected among a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon copolymer, an acrylic acid ester polymer, a rubber-like substance, and an ethylene copolymer. The rigidity of a reinforcing portion is thereby increased without varying thickness thereof.

As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the tape electric wire 1 is made of copper having a thickness of 30 to 50 μm and a width of 1 to 5 g, for example, or a strip-shaped conductor 2 made of copper plated with tin or the like. Generally used is a plurality of fibers arranged in parallel on the same surface at intervals and covered with a polyester film coating 3. Since good flexibility and durability against repeated bending are required, the thickness is approximately 200 mm. In use, the internal conductor 2 is exposed from the sheath 3 by 5 to 1Qm and brought into contact with the conductor inside the connector. However, in a connector with a large number of conductors 2, the position of the conductor 2 exposed from the end of the wire 1 may be disturbed. At the same time, a polyester film 4 is heat-sealed from one side of the exposed conductor 2 to the covering 3 on the same side to prevent buckling when inserted into the connector. However, since the total thickness of the exposed conductor 2 and the polyester film reinforcing layer 4 is limited by the insertion gap into the connector, the thickness of the polyester film reinforcing layer 4 is limited to about 200 μm. In order to bond the polyester film reinforcing layer 4 to the exposed conductor 1 at the end of the electric wire 1 and the polyester film coating 3, a thermoplastic polyester resin, A thin layer 5 of an adhesive resin composition of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having a thickness of about 40 μm is provided and heat-sealed. Such a conventional terminal structure does not have sufficient flexibility, and has the problem of bending or buckling during handling or insertion into a connector.

As a result of testing various materials for the adhesive resin composition, the present inventor found that the polyester film reinforcing layer contained a thermoplastic copolymer polyester resin, an epoxy group-containing ethylene copolymer, and a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer. A thin layer of an adhesive resin composition comprising one or more thermoplastic resins selected from acrylic ester polymers, rubber-like substances, and ethylene polymers is heated. It was discovered that the stiffness of the reinforcing part can be maximized without changing the thickness when the material is fused under pressure. The reason for this is not clear, but when this adhesive resin composition and the polyester film reinforcing layer are fused together by pressure heating, some of the components of the polyester film reinforcing layer and the adhesive resin composition react. It is thought that this is to harden the polyester film reinforcing layer. The adhesive resin composition described in JP-A-59-86677 is used as the adhesive resin composition.
