Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a pattern to be displayed in a prescribed shape by forming a metal layer on the inside of a transparent resin base material to be fitted to an adherend, and by irradiating a laser beam from the outside of the base material onto the metal layer via the base material, so that a part of metal layer can be turned into a roughened surface. CONSTITUTION:In displaying a pattern 7, a metal layer 6 is formed on the inside of a base material 4 to be fitted to an adherend. Then, the base material 4 is fitted to the adherend, and is irradiated on the outside of the base material 4 with a laser beam L. The laser beam L penetrates through the base material 4 and irradiates the metal layer 6 inside of the base material 4. As a result, the portion of the metal layer 6 that the irradiated by the laser beam L is heated and turned into a roughened surface. The roughened surface can be seen as a pattern 7 when viewing from the outside of the base material 4.

[Prior Art] Conventionally, rear garnishes for automobiles are composed of a base material made of, for example, a transparent resin and a colored coating layer formed on the inner surface of the base material. Some have patterns such as pictures. In this rear garnish, a colored coating layer is formed on the inner surface of the base material in a portion other than the pattern, so that the pattern is visible through the base material from the outer surface side of the rear garnish. In order to create such a pattern, prior to forming the colored coating layer,
A masking material is attached to the part of the base material that will become the pattern, and in this state, paint is applied to the inner surface of the base material and onto the masking material. When the masking material is peeled off after the paint has hardened, the desired colored paint layer and pattern are formed.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] However, in the conventional method for creating a pattern, it is necessary to accurately apply a masking material to a predetermined location before forming a colored coating layer or a metal layer on the inner surface of the base material. However, there is a problem in that the pasting work is troublesome. In addition, since the pattern cannot be made to appear after the rear garnish is assembled to the vehicle body, it is not suitable for high-mix, low-volume production in which many types of letters, designs, etc. are set, and there is also the problem of undesirable production management. there were.

This method uses an optical system such as a lens to irradiate a highly parallel, high-power laser beam onto the surface of the workpiece in a converged state. In addition, this laser beam processing method can be narrowed down to a minute spot, making it easy to create a complex pattern 7;
In addition to being able to process in a non-contact state, it is also possible to process remote parts or at difficult angles using optical means, making it easy to automate. It has features such as being able to be processed. There are three types of lasers: gas lasers, liquid lasers, and solid-state lasers. In this example, a solid-state laser (Nd-YA
G laser) was used.

First, prior to this laser beam irradiation, a metal layer 6 made of aluminum is formed on the entire inner surface of the base material 4 by sputtering, as shown in FIG. 1(a). That is, aluminum is used as a cathode (Yuichiget), and a voltage of several hundred volts is applied between this cathode and anode in low-pressure argon gas. This causes a glow discharge, and aluminum atoms at the cathode are ejected by collisions with positive argon ions during the discharge. The atoms ejected by this sputtering form a film on the inner surface of the base material 4 attached to the anode, and this becomes a metal layer 6 with metallic luster.

Then, by adhering the transparent resin base material 5 to the base material 4 on which the metal layer 6 is formed as described above, the metal layer 6 is sandwiched between the pair of base materials 4 and 5, and then this is attached to the automobile 2. Attach it to the specified position at the rear. Next, as shown in Figure 1(b),
Set the Nd-YAG laser processing machine near the base materials 4 and 5, focus the laser beam on the part of the metal layer 6 where you want the pattern 7 to appear, and emit the laser beam with an output of 1 to 30 W/m. irradiate.

When the laser light is irradiated towards the base material 4 in this way,
Since the base material 4 is made of a transparent synthetic resin, the laser light passes through the base material 4 and is irradiated onto the metal layer 6. When the metal layer 6 is irradiated with laser light, the temperature of the irradiated area of the metal layer 6 is increased in a very short time. As a result, as shown in FIG. 1(c), the portion of the metal layer 6 irradiated with the laser beam becomes a rough surface having minute undulations (surface roughness) like the surface of sandpaper. The rough surface portion of the metal layer 6 at this time becomes the desired pattern 7.

In the case where the pattern 7 appears as described above, or in the case of a tea bag L, when light hits a portion of the metal layer 6 other than the pattern 7 during the daytime, it is strongly reflected at a certain reflection angle, so that it has a rich metallic luster. In addition, pattern 7 has a unique rough surface with fine undulations (surface roughness) and a color and reflectance unique to metals, and when light hits this, it reflects strongly and diffusely, giving it a slightly whitish metallic color. As a result, a beautiful exterior with a metallic and thick feel can be obtained. Then, the pattern 7 in the metal layer 6
and the other parts have a synergistic effect that emphasizes and stands out the contrasting appearances of each of the above, so the rear garnish l as a whole has two types of metal surfaces with accents and a rich sense of luxury. A beautiful appearance can be obtained.

Furthermore, at night when the lights on the rear of the car 2 are lit,
Since the base material 5 is made of transparent resin and the metal layer 6 has some light transmittance, the light from the lamp is transmitted through the base material 5.
The light is irradiated onto the inner surface of the metal layer 6 through the rays. Therefore, the metallic pattern 7 appears to be floating from the rear of the car.

As described above, according to the method for creating pattern 7 of this embodiment, the masking material used in the conventional technology and the troublesome work of pasting this masking material to each base material are no longer necessary, and the laser beam irradiation is not necessary. The pattern 7 can be accurately formed into a predetermined shape by this simple process. In addition, the pattern 7 can be formed while the pair of base materials 4 and 5 sandwiching the metal layer 6 remain attached to the rear of the automobile 2, and furthermore, multiple types of patterns can be formed by simply changing the irradiation area of the laser beam. It is possible to form logos, grade names, patterns, etc. Therefore, it can easily handle high-mix, low-volume production, which is also preferable from the point of view of production control. Furthermore, original characters, patterns, etc. can be created very easily according to demand.
