Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a transfer current from leaking and to accomplish excellent transfer by providing a means for maintaining the potential of a supporting roller which supports a transfer belt in a specified polarity and at a specified value. CONSTITUTION:Supporting rollers 8-10 where the transfer belt 1 is laid are connected to a power source 13 and maintained at the specified potential. In such a case, the polarity of the bias impressed on each supporting roller is properly set to be positive or negative according to the electrostatic charging polarity of the electrostatically charged surface of a photosensitive body 3 and the polarity of toner. Thus, the transfer belt 1 is allowed to be in the same polarity as a transfer polarity by the supporting rollers 8-10, so that the transfer current is prevented from leaking through the supporting rollers 8-10, the omission of transfer and the splash of toner in the case of transfer are avoided, and excellent transfer performance is obtained.

The transfer belt 1 is connected to support rollers 8.9.10 as shown in the figure.
The transfer material P is supported by an appropriate driving source (not shown) in the direction of the arrow, and is supplied from the right side in the drawing. At the same time, the transfer voltage reaches the transfer site A, and at the same time, at the transfer site, due to the action of the transfer bias applied by the power source 11 to the flexible electrode 2 disposed on the opposite side of the photoreceptor when viewed from the transfer belt 1. The toner image is transferred to the transfer material P.
