In such devices, an electromagnetic device is used as a drive source to move the pinion so that it meshes with the ring gear, but the electromagnetic device turns on a switch to start energizing the electric motor. It is composed of Therefore, the electric motor rotates before the engagement between the pinion and the ring gear is completely completed, causing problems such as damage to the pinion and generation of abnormal noise. As a device that improved this problem,
A device described in Publication No. 7 is known. This device separates the electromagnetic device that moves the pinion from the motor switch, uses an optical sensor to detect when the pinion engages with the ring gear, and then turns on the motor switch to rotate the motor. be. In addition, as other devices, Nippondenso Publication Technique 36-06
5 (issued on July 15, 1984) is known. The device lowers the voltage applied to the electromagnet device for a predetermined period at the beginning of startup to slow down the driving speed of the electromagnet, thereby shortening the period from when the pinion contacts the end face of the ring gear until the main switch of the motor is turned on. During this period, the engagement between the pinion and the ring gear is completed due to the low speed rotation of the electric motor.

When the present inventors measured the time characteristics of this spring load, we found that after the pinion came into contact with the end face of the ring gear,
It has been discovered that the spring load continues to oscillate for some time even after the electromagnet completes its operation and stops in its operating position. This means that the engagement between the pinion and the ring gear is unstable, and if the pushing force of the pinion to the ring gear is insufficient or the amplitude of the spring is large, the two may mesh. It means to come off. However, all three devices described above rotate the electric motor at high speed before the spring vibration stops. That is, in the first device described above, when the electromagnetic device stops operating, the main switch that supplies electricity to the electric motor is turned on, so the vibration of the spring continues for a while thereafter. Furthermore, in the second device described above (Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 56-424.37), the engagement is detected as complete when the pinion first contacts the end surface of the ring gear. Then, when the engagement is completed, the electric motor is turned on, so when the electric motor starts rotating, the vibration of the spring load has not yet stopped. In addition, the third device mentioned above (Nippon Denso Publication Technique 36-06
In 5), in the measured characteristics of the spring load shown in Fig. 3, the electromagnet stops at the operating position by lengthening the period from time t1° when the electromagnet starts operating to time t1□ when it stops at the operating position. The time t1□ at which the main switch of the motor is turned on is delayed, and the time t1 at which the main switch of the motor is turned on is delayed. However, as is clear from the characteristics of the spring load, the spring load oscillates greatly from time t when the electromagnet stops at the operating position. For the reasons mentioned above, in conventional starting devices, the electric motor rotates at high speed before the meshing between the pinion and ring gear is stabilized, so the end surfaces of the pinion and ring gear teeth are chipped, worn, or damaged. There is a problem with the sound being generated. In addition, in the three devices mentioned above, before turning on the main switch of the motor, the electric current flowing through the coil of the electromagnetic device drives the motor at a low speed, making it easier for the pinion to mesh with the ring gear. That's what I do. However, the current flowing through the coil of the electromagnetic device is considerably regulated by heat resistance, coil resistance, etc., and as a drive current for the motor, it has to be a very small value. As a result, when the pinion end face and the ring gear end face come into contact with each other, the rotational force of the electric motor is overcome by the frictional force of the end face, resulting in poor meshing. In addition, in the second device (Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 56-42437), a sensor for detecting the completion of engagement must be installed near the ring gear (inside the engine clutch housing), which makes it difficult to implement the starting device. There is a problem that the assembly time increases. Furthermore, since the engagement detection sensor is located inside the clutch housing, there is a problem in that the detection device malfunctions due to gear abrasion powder generated within the clutch housing and muddy water entering from the outside. The present invention was developed in order to solve the above problems, and its purpose is to prevent pinion and ring gear breakage, metallic noise, etc., and improve the meshing between the pinion and ring gear. That's true. Means for Solving the Ciia] The configuration of the invention for solving the above problems is such that, in response to actuation of a starting switch, the output shaft of the electric motor is connected to the ring gear operatively coupled to the output shaft of the engine. In an engine starting device that starts an engine by moving a pinion operatively coupled to a pinion via a spring by the actuation force of an electromagnetic force means and meshing with a ring gear, in response to actuation of a start switch. A timer means that outputs a control signal after a predetermined time elapses after the electromagnetic force means stops at the operating position and until the operating force acting on the pinion by the spring becomes stable; and a control output by the timer means. A main switch for the motor is provided, which starts energizing the motor in response to a signal.

This operating force moves the binion toward the ring gear via the spring, causing the binion and the ring gear to mesh. On the other hand, the timer means starts counting after the start switch is turned on, and measures a predetermined time that exceeds the time when the vibration of the spring load stops after the electromagnetic force means stops at the operating position. After a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the start switch was turned on, the motor main switch is turned on in response to a control signal output from the timer means. As a result, the electric motor rotates at high speed after the control signal is output from the timer means, and the engine is started. In this manner, the electric motor is rotated at high speed after the vibration of the spring load is stabilized, so that the meshing between the binion and the ring gear is ensured.

In FIG. 1, reference numeral 1 denotes an electromagnet device constituting an electromagnetic force means, which is composed of a coil 2 and a movable iron core 3. When the coil 2 is energized, the movable iron core 3 is moved in the +X-axis direction by the electromagnetic force of the coil 2. The lever 17 is pivotably supported around a fulcrum 17a, and has one end 17b of the lever 17 and one end 3a of the movable iron core 3.
A spring 4 is interposed between them. The other end 17c of the lever 17 is connected to a one-way clutch 15 that is movable relative to the output shaft 18 of the electric motor 14, and a pinion 19 is connected to the one-way clutch 15. When the lever 17 moves in the X-axis direction, the pinion 19 moves in the -X-axis direction together with the one-way clutch 15, and meshes with the ring gear 16 operatively connected to the output shaft of the engine. Next, the electric circuit of the device of this embodiment will be explained. The coil 2 of the electromagnet device 1 is supplied with power from a battery 21 via a starting switch 20 . Further, the electric motor 14 is supplied with power from the battery 21 via the motor main switch 5. The power supply circuit of the electric motor 14 and the power supply circuit of the electromagnet device 1 are connected in parallel to the battery 21. The motor main switch 5 is composed of an electromagnetic relay,
It has fixed contacts 10, 11, a movable core 7 that connects these fixed contacts, and a coil 8 that drives the movable core 7. The coil 8 is connected to the output terminal 20 of the starting switch 20.
The control signal output from the timer relay 12 connected to a is input. The timer relay 12 is a relay that starts measuring time after the start switch 20 is turned on, and closes the relay contact 12a after a predetermined time. When the relay contact 12a closes, the battery voltage, which is a control signal, is applied to the coil 8 of the motor main switch 5. As a result, the coil 8 is excited, the movable iron core 7 is attracted toward the fixed contacts 10 and 11, and the fixed contacts 10 and 11 are electrically connected. When the fixed contacts IO and 11 are electrically connected, electric power is supplied to the electric motor 14 from the battery 21, and the electric motor 14 rotates at high speed. Next, the operation of the device of this embodiment will be described. FIG. 2 is a diagram in which the time characteristics of the load on the spring 4 were measured. Time t. When the start switch 20 is turned on,
The coil 2 of the electromagnet device 1 is powered, and the movable iron core 3 is +X
is moved in the axial direction. When the movable iron core 3 moves in the +X-axis direction, one end 17b of the lever 17 swings in the +X-axis direction around the fulcrum 17a via the spring 4, and the swing of the lever 17 causes the clutch 15 to move in the -X-axis direction. do. Then, the pinion I9 comes into contact with the end surface 16a of the ring gear 16. This time is time t1. Thereafter, the spring 4 is expanded as the movable iron core 3 moves until time t,
At time t, the movable core 3 of the electromagnet device 1 is in its final operating position. At this time, the vibration of the load of the spring 4 does not stop even after time t2, and finally stops after time t has elapsed. On the other hand, at time t. When the start switch 20 is turned on, the timer relay I2 starts measuring time. At time t4, when the predetermined time T has elapsed, relay contact 1
2a is closed, and the coil 8 of the motor main switch 5 is energized. As a result, the fixed contacts 10.11 become conductive, power is supplied to the electric motor 14, and the electric motor 14 rotates at high speed. As the pinion 19 rotates due to the rotation of the electric motor 14, it is pushed toward the ring gear 16 by the biasing force of the spring 4, and is completely engaged with the ring gear 6, causing the ring gear 16 to rotate. The above predetermined time T is set to exceed the time t at which the vibration of the load of the spring 4 stops, so immediately after the vibration of the load of the spring 4 stops, the pinion 1
After the position of pinion 9 and the biasing force of the spring 4 are stabilized, the pinion 19 is pushed into the ring gear 16 with a stable biasing force and completely meshes with the ring gear 16. As a result, the pinion 19 and the ring gear 16 mesh smoothly, and gear chipping and metallic noise are prevented.
