The operation timing will be explained with reference to FIG. T is a timing pulse, and printing is performed according to this timing. In this case, it is assumed that the character ``8'' is printed. The second, third, fifth, and sixth heating resistors that make up the first row are driven by one timing pulse T.Similarly, the second The 1st, 4th, and 7th heating resistors in the rows are driven, and characters of "°8" are printed up to the 5th row.

Since the heating resistors have a small electrical resistance value, if all the heating resistors are driven, a current of several amperes will flow. For this reason, the circuits have become large-scale, such as by increasing the size of the power supply circuit and the wiring material, which has hindered the miniaturization of printers.

This makes it possible to reduce the size of the power supply and peripheral circuits, thereby making it possible to downsize the printer.

In a thermal printer consisting of a feeding mechanism and a control block, the heating resistor in the thermal head is divided into blocks, each block is arranged offset in the head feeding direction, and each block of the heating resistor It is characterized by being driven sequentially in the feeding direction.

control (the wholesale block is used to move characters and figures according to the timing of the timing signal generator in step 5, and the head is not sent in step 4 and then the thermal head in step 3 is driven via the driver in step 2. The thermal head in this example is divided into two blocks as shown in Fig. 2, and the blocks are arranged offset by half a dot with respect to the head feeding direction. The printing timing of the thermal printer in this example will be explained according to Fig. 3. .T is a quick 2nd pulse, and the printer prints according to this timing. Here, it is assumed that the character 8" is to be printed. At the first rising edge of timing pulse a, 2 and 3 forming the first column are printed. .5.Of the 6th heating resistors, the 2nd and 3rd blocks that come first in the head feeding direction are driven first. When the head is fed and has advanced half a dot, that is, at the falling edge of the timing pulse, the remaining 5.
Drive the sixth heating resistor. This result 2.3.5.
The sixth dot is printed in a row on the thermal paper. Similarly, in this embodiment in which characters of "8°" are printed up to the fifth column, the peak current is half that of the conventional one because it is divided into two parts.
