[Detailed description of the invention] The present invention is an electrode group in which a strip-shaped negative electrode plate made of a light metal plate such as lithium or sodium, and a strip-shaped positive electrode plate made of carbon fluoride, manganese dioxide, etc. as an active material are wound through a separator. The purpose of this invention is to improve battery performance without reducing workability during electrode plate winding, particularly by improving the shape of the negative electrode current collector.

Conventionally, the negative electrode plate structure of this type of battery is as shown in FIG. 1, for example, a negative electrode current collector made of a porous metal plate having a width approximately equal to the width of the negative electrode plate is placed on one side of a strip-shaped negative electrode plate 1 made of a lithium plate. The body 2 was crimped, and the extended portion 2' of the negative electrode current collector 2 was fixed to a current collecting rod 3 which also served as a winding core.

However, the above-mentioned light metal such as lithium itself has extremely high conductivity, and it has been confirmed that the discharge reaction can proceed sufficiently on the surface facing the positive electrode plate even without a current collector.

Therefore, if the negative electrode current collector 2 covers the entire surface of one side of the negative electrode plate 1 as shown in FIG. 1, this will impede the reaction of the negative electrode plate and lead to waste of material.

In order to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantages, a small negative electrode current collector 12 that is crimped onto only a portion of the negative electrode plate 1 as shown in FIG. 2 has been proposed.

However, in this case, a new problem arises especially in the case of a battery, which is the object of the present application, in which a separator is interposed between the positive and negative electrode plates and these are wound to form an electrode group. That is, since the light metal plate such as a lithium plate constituting the negative electrode plate is extremely soft, the peripheral edge of the electrode plate is easily deformed when the electrode plate is wound, resulting in lower workability and reliability.

This invention was made in view of these points,
The gist of this is that a porous metal plate having a width approximately equal to the width of the negative electrode plate and having an opening at least in the center is used as the negative electrode current collector.
The current collector portions are located at the upper and lower edges of the negative electrode plate in the winding direction to prevent deformation of the peripheral edge of the negative electrode plate during winding, and the central portion is opened to allow the reaction of the negative electrode plate to proceed smoothly. It measures the improvement of battery performance.

As detailed above, according to the battery of the present invention, the negative electrode current collector is made of a porous metal plate having a width substantially equal to the width of the negative electrode plate and having an opening at least in the center. The battery performance can be improved by not causing deformation of the peripheral edge of the negative electrode plate and expanding the reaction area of the negative electrode plate that directly faces the positive electrode plate without intervening the negative electrode current collector part. Its practical value is extremely great.
