Abstract

PURPOSE:To print data for tow pages in a printing medium for one page and thereby to economize in the printing medium by providing a memory for storing the print data for two pages and a character width compression control element. CONSTITUTION:Print data sent to a received data analyzing element 1 are stored in an initial state in a print memory 4. When a new-page start code or print data exceeding the length of paper are detected in the received data analyzing element 1, a switch change-over request signal is sent to a printing control element 2. Thereby a memory change-over switch 3 is changed over and subsequent print data are stored in a print memory 5. When the new-page start code or the print data exceeding the length of paper are detected further by the received data analyzing element 1, the switch change-over request signal is sent to the printing control element 2, and thereby the print memory 4 is selected, while a printing start request signal is given to the print memories 4 and 5. Print data in the left half of each line are given to a character width compression control element 6 from the print memory 4, while print data in the right half of each line are given to said element from the print memory 5, and the print data of each line are compressed to 1/2 laterally and printed.
