(Prior art) In the past, an offline type system in which the received facsimile recording paper was read by an OCR (optical character recognition device) was used.
A FAX-OCR system was proposed. In this case, it was possible for a person to look at the received recording paper, separate the received manuscript for general documents from the sent manuscript for character recognition, and input only the latter to the OCR. However, the so-called online type, in which the received facsimile image and electrical signal are passed directly to the OCR for recognition without going through the receiving recording paper,
In the case of a FAX-OCR system, some kind of identification of the received document is required. Otherwise, before sending the document, the receiving side will be notified whether the next document to be sent is a general document or a document to be sent for character recognition, and the document will be sent after the receiving side has completed switching the mode specification. It is extremely inconvenient to have to go through a procedure to start transmission.

(Objective of the Invention) The object of the present invention is to automatically distinguish a received facsimile image into a general document original and a form that requires character recognition, to record and output the general document original as a hard copy that can be visualized, and to record and output the general document original as a hard copy that can be visualized. An object of the present invention is to provide a recognition device for a received facsimile image that performs character recognition.

FIG. 1 shows an example of a document 1 including character recognition information and a general document document 2 that does not require character recognition. FIG. 2 is a system configuration diagram for explaining an embodiment of the present invention. The system includes a FAX receiving circuit 5, an image storage device 9, an image storage control circuit 7 that controls the input/output of the image storage device, a character recognition device 14, a recording device 22 for hard copy output, and a character recognition device 14 or a recording device 22 for outputting an image signal. It consists of a switch circuit 16 that selects which of the recording devices 22 to transfer data to, and a system control circuit 18 that controls the operation of the system.

An ID column 2 is provided in a document 1 containing character recognition information shown in FIG. 1 at a predetermined position, for example, at a distance Y from the leading edge of the document and a distance X from the left edge. In ID column 2, an identification number to indicate the type of form (or it may be a letter, symbol, etc. as long as it is within the range of character types recognized by the character recognition device described later) is printed in advance, or a pencil, etc. Fill in the form.

For example, if there are three types of forms, the ID codes for each form may be determined as A01, A02, and A03. In this case, even if documents have different IDs, their positions, for example, the distances from the leading edge and left edge of the document, must be kept constant within the tolerance range for positional deviations of conventional character recognition devices. On the other hand, there is no particular ID field in the general document manuscript 3 used for message exchange.

In FIG. 2, a document sent via a line 4 is received by a FAX receiving circuit 5. FAX
When the reception circuit 5 receives a reception request from the other party's fax machine, it notifies the system control 18 through the signal line 10. Then, a signal is given to the image storage control device 7 via the signal line 11 to start storing the received image.
The FAX receiving circuit 5 performs composite processing on the facsimile reception signal sent from the other party's FAX, converting it into raw image data, and transmitting the raw image data via the signal line 6 to the image storage control device 7.
Hand over to. The image storage control device 7 controls the image storage device 9 to sequentially store received image signals starting from a predetermined address. When one page has been received
A page end signal is given from the FAX receiving circuit 5 to the system control circuit 18. The system control circuit manages files in the image storage device 9.
It is constantly monitored to see if it can be stored in the image storage device 9 even if it continues to be received. When the system control circuit 18 receives a page end signal from the FAX receiving circuit 5 and further receives a request to receive the next page, it determines whether or not it is allowed to start receiving the next page to the FAX receiving circuit 5, depending on the aforementioned file occupancy state. control line 10
Send via. When starting to receive the next page, the data is stored in the next file address of the image storage device 9 via the image storage control circuit 7 in the same way as the previous page. Thereafter, similar input operations are performed as long as there is space in the image storage device 9. On the other hand, when the image storage device runs out of space, the system control circuit 1
8 notifies the FAX receiving circuit 5 of a reception refusal command.
As a result, the FAX receiving circuit 5 stops receiving the next page and thereafter, and performs a line disconnection procedure.

Next, when the series of reception operations is completed, the process moves on to recognition processing of the received images stored in the image storage device 9. The system control circuit 18 instructs the image storage device 7 to read each file starting from a predetermined address, and also notifies the character recognition device 14 via the control line 19 of the start of recognition. At this time, information necessary for recognition, such as the line position, character type, and number of characters to be recognized, is provided. As for these character recognition devices, the present invention can be sufficiently coped with if known ones are used, so a detailed explanation will be omitted. The switch circuit 16 selects whether to pass the image signal to the character recognition device 14 or to the recording device 22.
It is switched by the control line 15 from the system controller 18.

When performing recognition processing on the received image, the switch circuit 1 is connected from the image storage control device 7 via the signal line 12.
6, an image signal is input to the character recognition device 14 from the signal line 17. First, data for recognizing the ID field shown in FIG. 1 is given from the system control circuit 18 to the character recognition device 14. Based on this data, the character recognition device 14 detects the ID column from the input image signal and recognizes what is written in the ID column. This recognition result is notified to the system control circuit 18 via a control line 19. If the recognition result matches one of the pre-registered ID codes, the system control circuit 18 sends data to the character recognition device 14 to continue character recognition operation according to the form format with that ID code. give to On the other hand, if the recognition result in the ID column does not exist in the registered ID code or is unrecognizable, no further recognition operation is performed. In this case, the switch circuit is connected to the signal line 20 to perform an operation for outputting the original as a hard copy. System control circuit 18 connects control line 2 to recording device 22 to obtain a hard copy.
1, and address information is given to the image storage control device 7 to read the image signal from the beginning of the document. Therefore, the recording device 22 outputs a manuscript whose ID code is not registered in the ID field or an unrecognized manuscript.

When the above control is performed, the general document manuscript 3 becomes
If there is no special ID column and this position is completely white, it is determined that the document is unrecognizable, and the document is output as a hard copy by the recording device 22. Furthermore, even if something, such as a letter or figure, is drawn in the position corresponding to the ID field, it is highly unlikely that the recognition result will be the same as the ID code by chance. Also, if you increase the number of characters in the ID code,
There will be fewer coincidental matches.

(Effect of the invention) As explained in detail above, an ID field is provided at a predetermined position of a form to be recognized, and based on the recognition result of the ID field, if the ID code is already registered, the form that matches the ID code is The format continues to perform character recognition, and if the recognition result is other than a registered ID code, including unrecognized ID codes, a hard copy is output, thereby performing processing that separates the form to be recognized from the general document manuscript. Can be done.

Therefore, even if you send a mixture of notification documents and slips, the notification documents will be delivered as a received document in the same way as with conventional facsimiles, and the slips will be recognized and processed by the computer without unnecessary recording. This allows for effective document processing operations.
In the above explanation, the facsimile reception signal is reproduced and stored in the image storage device 9 in the form of raw image data, but the facsimile reception signal is stored as the missingness suppression code,
Of course, the present invention can also be implemented even if the raw image data is reproduced immediately before being delivered to the character recognition device.
