It is possible to create This YIG thin film is processed into a circular or rectangular shape by selective etching.
A microwave device can be constructed by utilizing the Ferrimagnetic resonance. In this case, ordinary photolithography technology can be used, so processability is excellent, and since a large number of elements can be obtained from a single GGG substrate, it is also excellent in mass production. Furthermore, since it is a thin film material, it has the advantage that it can be easily integrated into a microwave integrated circuit (MIC) using a microstrip line or the like as a transmission line.

た。 As is well known, microwave elements using Ferrimagnetic resonance are superior in terms of miniaturization and sharpness, and YIG single crystal spheres have previously been put to practical use as such microwave elements. This YIG single-crystal sphere has the advantage that the magnetostatic mode is less likely to be excited, and that the only resonant mode is the uniform precession mode. However, these YIG single crystal spheres have problems in processability and mass production, and for this reason, it has been desired to construct a magnetic resonance apparatus using YIG thin films.

In other words, the magnetostatic mode when a DC magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the sample surface of a disk-shaped ferrimagnetic sample is described in the literature (Journal of
Applied Physics, Vol.48, July 1977, PP.3001

N) is displayed in m. However, the (n, N)m mode is a mode that has n nodes in the circumferential direction, N nodes in the diametrical direction, and (m-1) nodes in the thickness direction. If the high-frequency magnetic field has good uniformity across the sample, the (1,N) 1 series becomes the main magnetostatic mode. Figure 1 shows the Ferrimagnetic resonance measurement results of a circular thin film sample measured in a 9GHz cavity resonator, showing that many (1,N) 1 series magnetostatic modes are excited. There is. When constructing a microwave device such as a bandpass filter using this sample, the main resonance mode (1,

モードの励振を抑圧することが可能である。 The inventors of the present invention have conducted extensive research in order to achieve such an objective, and as a result, they have come to notice that the distribution of high-frequency magnetization components in a sample differs between each magnetostatic mode. This will now be considered with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. FIG. 2 shows the internal DC magnetic field Hi when a DC magnetic field is applied in a direction perpendicular to the surface of a YIG disk having a thickness t and a diameter D (radius R). However, here, the shape ratio t/
Since we are considering the case where D (hereinafter referred to as aspect ratio) is sufficiently small, the magnetic field distribution in the thickness direction of the sample can be ignored. The demagnetizing field is large on the inside of the disk and rapidly decreases toward the periphery, so the internal DC magnetic field is small near the center and suddenly increases near the outer periphery. By the way, according to the analysis results in the above literature, the value of r/R at the position where Hi=ω/γ is ξ
Then, the magnetostatic mode exists in the region 0r/Rξ. However, ω is the resonance angular frequency of the magnetostatic mode, and γ is the gyromagnetic ratio. When the magnetic field is fixed, the resonance frequency increases as the mode number N increases, and the magnetostatic mode region gradually expands to the outside as shown in FIG. 3A. Figure 3B shows the distribution of high-frequency magnetization within the sample for the three low-order modes of (1, N) 1 mode, and the absolute value indicates the magnitude of high-frequency magnetization.
The symbols indicate the phase relationship of high frequency magnetization. Third
As can be understood from the figure, the high-frequency magnetization components are in different forms between the magnetostatic modes, and if this is used, the magnetostatic components that cause spurious responses can be eliminated without having almost any effect on the main resonance mode. It is possible to suppress mode excitation.

Grooves 2a are formed in the ferrimagnetic layer 2 in an annular arrangement. Although not shown, a magnetic field is applied perpendicularly to this substrate 1.

In this case, the YIG thin film can be formed by liquid phase epitaxial growth, and then the ferrimagnetic layer 2 can be formed by photolithography technology. Of course, the ferrimagnetic layer 2 may be formed by processing a bulk material. The shape of the ferrimagnetic layer 2 may be circular, square, rectangular, or the like. The thickness of the ferrimagnetic layer 2 is made sufficiently small (aspect ratio is small), and the magnetic field distribution in the thickness direction of the ferrimagnetic layer 2 is made uniform. In this case, the magnetostatic mode is (1,
N) 1 mode.

In this case, the demagnetizing field is lifted in the inner region close to the groove 2a, and the demagnetizing field becomes substantially uniform within this range. In other words, the internal DC magnetic field is substantially uniform over a wide range in the radial direction, as shown by the dashed line in FIG. 3A. Therefore, it becomes possible to further suppress excitation of magnetostatic modes other than the main resonance mode.

Since the groove 2a is located at the position where the high frequency magnetization becomes zero for the mode, the excitation of the (1, 1) 1 mode is not affected. On the other hand, for other magnetostatic modes, since the groove 2a is located at a position where the high-frequency magnetization is not originally zero, the magnetization is partially restrained, and as a result, the excitation of these modes is weakened. becomes. Therefore, spurious responses can be suppressed without damaging the main resonance mode.

合に実効がある。 Note that the distribution of high-frequency magnetization in the ferrimagnetic layer 2 (see FIG. 3B) does not depend at all on the magnitude of the saturation magnetization of the sample, and also does not depend greatly on the aspect ratio. Therefore, the present invention has the advantage that even if the saturation magnetization, film thickness, etc. of the ferrimagnetic layer 2 vary considerably, there is no need to change the position of the groove 2a accordingly. It is effective in cases such as lithography.
