Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve performance by generating the elastic deformation of a pressure generating member by the change of the magnetic flux of a magnetic circuit, varying the pressure of ink existing between the pressure generating member and a nozzle forming substrate and discharging ink drops. CONSTITUTION:A pressure generating member 14 having an electrode pattern 13 on the substrate 11 side is arranged oppositely to a nozzle 12 formed to a nozzle forming substrate 11 composed of a paramagnetic metallic plate in an ink-jet head, and the ink-jet head is dipped into ink 15. When voltage 16 is applied to the electrode pattern 13, a magnetic circuit penetrating from the pressure generating member 14 to the substrate 11 is shaped, and the pressure generating member 14 is deformed toward the direction of the substrate 11. The pressure of ink existing in a clearance 10 between the pressure generating member 14 and the substrate 11 is increased by the deformation, and an ink drop 17 is discharged from the nozzle 12.

It includes a nozzle forming substrate having a plurality of nozzles, and a pressure generating member disposed facing each of the nozzles and immersed in ink.The pressure generating member is deformed by applying a voltage, and the pressure generating member is deformed in the gap between the nozzle forming substrate and the nozzle forming substrate. An on-demand inkjet head that ejects ink droplets from a nozzle by changing the pressure of existing ink is disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 60-8953, for example.
This inkjet mechanism improves the ejection efficiency and ejection stability of ink droplets by displacing the pressure generating member in a direction approximately perpendicular to the nozzle forming substrate and by shortening the ink flow path of the nozzle. It is excellent, and operates normally without being affected even if air bubbles or dust get mixed into the ink. Furthermore, the pressure generating member has a cantilevered or double-sided structure, which improves electromechanical conversion efficiency. It has the characteristic of being able to bring about the required displacement of the pressure generating member with a high voltage and a low voltage.

Conventionally, in this type of inkjet head,
The pressure-generating member uses a laminated material of a piezoelectric element and a metal plate.A voltage is applied to contract the piezoelectric element, and the necessary deformation of the pressure-generating member is achieved by the bimetallic effect formed by the piezoelectric element and the metal plate. Therefore, the inkjet characteristics can only be varied within the range of the properties of the pressure-generating member determined by the Young's modulus, yield stress, and dimensions of the piezoelectric element and the metal plate, as well as the piezoelectric constant of the piezoelectric element, and it is not always possible to achieve satisfactory inkjet properties. It had not yet acquired the characteristics.

When a voltage 16 is applied to the electrode pattern 13, a current flows, a magnetic circuit is formed that extends from the pressure generating member 14 to the nozzle forming substrate 11, and the pressure generating member 14 is deformed in the direction of the nozzle forming substrate 11. Due to this deformation, the gap 19 between the pressure generating member 14 and the nozzle forming substrate 11
The pressure of the ink existing in the area increases, and an ink droplet 17 is ejected from the nozzle 12 (FIG. 2(C)).

FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the inkjet head for explaining the structure of the inkjet head and the principle of ejecting ink droplets in a third embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, Figure 2 (a) (
b) - The same components as <c> are given the same numbers. In the inkjet head in this embodiment, the nozzle forming substrate 11 is a non-magnetic metal plate, and the loop of the pressure generating member 14 and the covers 20 and 21 formed of paramagnetic material has a common permanent magnet 22 that absorbs the magnetic flux generated. A magnetic circuit is configured, and the pressure generating member 13 is waiting to be attracted to the protrusion 23 of the cover 21 while storing elastic energy. A coil 24 is wound around each magnetic circuit passing through the pressure generating member 14, and when a voltage 16 is applied, the magnetic flux is weakened and the pressure generating member 14 is deformed so as to return toward the nozzle forming substrate 11, and this deformation Pressure generating member 14
The pressure of the ink existing in the gap 19 between the nozzle forming substrate 11 and the nozzle forming substrate 11 increases, and ink droplets are ejected from the nozzle 12 (not shown). In the inkjet head of this embodiment, ink droplets are ejected by releasing elastic energy stored in advance, so the ejection energy of ink droplets can be made larger than that of the inkjet head of the first embodiment. , the inkjet properties are further improved. Further, in the case of this configuration, for example, a comb-shaped solid magnetic metal plate can be used as the pressure generating member, which is advantageous in terms of ensuring component precision.

In all of these embodiments, the pressure generating member is deformed in the direction of the nozzle forming substrate to increase the pressure of the ink existing in the gap between the pressure generating member and the nozzle forming substrate.
The so-called "push method" in which ink droplets are ejected from a nozzle.
However, in the present invention, the pressure generating member is first deformed in the opposite direction to the nozzle forming substrate, the ink meniscus is drawn in from the nozzle, and then the pressure generating member is deformed into the nozzle in synchronization with the return of the ink meniscus. It is obvious that it can also be applied to the so-called "pulling method" in which ink droplets are ejected by deforming the ink droplet in the direction of the forming substrate.

As described above, according to the present invention, by applying a voltage,
Produced by changes in the magnetic flux of the magnetic circuit that penetrates the pressure-generating member,
In order to eject ink droplets from the nozzle by causing elastic deformation of the pressure generating member and changing the pressure of the ink existing in the gap between the nozzle forming substrate and the nozzle forming substrate, a conventional laminate consisting of a piezoelectric element and a metal plate is used. As a result of being able to design pressure-generating member characteristics that are fundamentally different from the characteristics of the pressure-generating member that were previously unrealizable, it becomes possible to realize an inkjet head with significantly improved performance.
