Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a toner fullness state by providing an impeller which rotates by externaly driving at all times, a displacement member whose displacement state can be found even from outside a waste toner recovery container when the force is applied form in the container, and a means which detects the state change of the displacement member in the waste toner recovery container. CONSTITUTION:Remaining toner (waste toner) 8 on the peripheral surface of a photosensitive drum 1 is wiped away by a cleaning part 2 and recovered in the waste toner recovery container 3. In the recovery container 3, the impeller 4 is rotated all times by an external driving source 5 and the displacement member 6 which changes in state when the force is applied from in the container 3 and whose state change can be found even from outside the container 3 is disposed opposite the impeller 4; when the container becomes full of waste toner 8, the turning force A of the impeller 4 is transmitted through the waste toner 8 filling the container as shown by an arrow B, the displacement member 6 changes in state with the force, and the state change is detected by a sensor 7. Consequently, the toner fullness state can be detected.

Conventionally, this type of toner detection mechanism has a weight detection method that detects the weight that changes depending on the amount of toner in the waste toner collection container, or a method that detects the amount of toner inside or outside the waste toner collection container using light. There is a light detection method that does this.

The above-mentioned conventional weight detection method has the disadvantage that since the weight of the waste toner collection container in which waste toner is collected is slightly changed, a large-sized device is required to detect the change, which increases the cost.

In addition, in the conventional optical detection method described above, powder toner is sent from the cleaning section to the waste toner collection container in the form of smoke, and the light-receiving and light-emitting surfaces are dirty due to toner adhesion, resulting in false detection. In the figure, a photosensitive drum 1 has residual toner (
The waste toner) 8 is removed from the photosensitive drum by the cleaning section 2 and collected in the waste toner collection container 3. In the waste toner collection container 3, an impeller 4 that is constantly rotated by an external drive source 5 is rotated inside the waste toner collection container 3, and a force is applied from inside the waste toner collection container 3 to a position opposing the impeller 4. A displacement member 6 is installed that changes the state when the waste toner collection container 3 is filled with waste toner 8, and the change in state can be seen from outside the waste toner collection container. In this case, the force from the impeller 4 rotated by the drive source 5 is not transmitted to the displacement member 6 via the waste toner 8 in the container 3, and when the container is full (Fig. 3), the force from the impeller 4 is not transmitted to the displacement member 6 by the drive source 5. The rotational force A of the rotating impeller 4 is transmitted as shown by arrow B through the waste toner 8 in the full state, and the state of the displacement member 6 changes due to this force, and this state change is detected by the sensor 7.

As explained above, the present invention provides a waste toner collection container that collects residual toner (waste toner) remaining on a photosensitive drum, and includes an impeller that is constantly rotated by an external drive inside the waste toner collection container, and an impeller that is constantly rotated by an external drive. By having a displacement member whose state changes when a force is applied from inside the waste toner collection container to an opposing position and whose state change can be seen from outside the waste toner collection container, and a means for detecting the state change of the displacement member, it is easy to use. To,
In addition, there is an effect that the toner full state can be detected inexpensively and reliably.
