Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress corrosion and improve contact defects by a method wherein a collector is made of stainless steel containing 1-10wt.% of aluminum. CONSTITUTION:Collector 3 or at least the surface of a case 4 brought into contact with electrolyte is made of stainless steel containing 1 to 10wt.%.% of aluminum. If the aluminum content is less than 1wt.% little effect is obtained and, if the aluminum content exceeds 10wt.% an electric resistance becomes high and either cases are undesirable. Further, the carbon content of stainless steel is preferably 0.03wt.% or less and, if it exceeds 0.03wt.% intergranular corrosion is promoted, which is undesirable. The collector 3 is composed of a thin plate foil obtained by melting and rolling stainless steel or an expanded metal plate obtained by processing stainless steel and laminated on the surface of the polarizing electrode 1. With this constitution, even if an electrode voltage is applied, the collector 3 and the case 4 are not dissolved easily, so that the contact defect can be avoided.

(Problem to be solved by the invention) However, when a metal such as aluminum or stainless steel is used as the material of the current collector, when an anode voltage is applied, a part of the current collector melts and separates from the current collector. It has the disadvantage of causing poor contact with the polar electrode. Further, even when a valve metal such as titanium or niobium is used, charging at a high voltage similarly causes corrosion, so there is a drawback that the rating cannot be increased.
