Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need replacing a light source from a user by providing two light source units including a collimating means and instantaneously using the other light source unit by means of switching an optical path when the light source during using is in fault. CONSTITUTION:The two light source units 1 and 2 including a collimate means are provided. When the light source unit 1 is in fault, the other light source unit 2 can be instantaneously used by switching the optical path. When the light source unit 1 during using is in fault, the spare light source unit 2 can be used by rotating an optical path switching mirror. By interlocking with the switching of the light source unit 2 used at this time, an electric source line supplying power is altered as well. Thus, the function capable of automatically switching the optical path is added, and therefore the need for a user to replace the light source is eliminated.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] However, the above-described projection type display device had a drawback in that the life of the light source was short. Therefore, for example, situations often occur where the light source goes out while enjoying a movie, and the user has to replace the light source each time.
I felt uncomfortable. I had such a problem.

[Means for Solving the Problems] The projection display device of the present invention conomates light from a light source, modulates it with a transmission light valve, and projects the modulated light onto a screen with a projection optical means to display an image. In a projection type display device for displaying images, there are two light source units including collimating means.
The light source unit is equipped with two light source units, and is characterized by having a mechanism that allows the use of the other light source unit immediately by switching the optical path when the light source unit in use breaks down.

[Function] In the projection type display device configured as described above, even if the light source goes out during use, the other light source unit can be used immediately due to the optical path control, eliminating the trouble of replacing the light source. significantly reduced. Furthermore, by providing a function to automatically switch the optical path, the user does not actually have to replace the light source, and the only inconvenience is that the image is interrupted for a few seconds while the light source is automatically switched. So it won't be unpleasant. After enjoying the video, the user can slowly replace the malfunctioning light source unit.

As is clear from the figure, if the light source unit 1 in use breaks down, a spare light source unit can be used by rotating the optical path switching mirror. (
(Fig. 2) At this time, in conjunction with replacing the light source unit to be used, the power line supplied to the light source is also changed. (
1-2) Of course, this mechanism is reversible, so if light source unit 2 breaks down, by rotating the optical path switching mirror and returning it to its original position, the configuration as shown in Figure 1 will be created, and light source unit 1 will be restored. can be used.

The optical path control mirror can be rotated manually, but
It has become even easier to use by providing automatic functions. That is, there is no need for the user to replace the light source while using the projection display device. The user only has to replace the failed light source unit after use.

[Example 2] Both surfaces of the optical path switching mirror 3 were made into mirrors. This allows the rotation angle of the optical path switching mirror to be reduced,
As a result, the distance between the light source unit and the color separation means could be reduced, and the image quality was improved compared to the projection type display device of Example 1.
