Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain image information of high quality for character recognition or the like by providing a subtracting means to subtract a digital picture element signal string delayed and multiplied by a coefficient from the output digital picture element signal string of a converting means. CONSTITUTION:One-line components of an analog picture element signal B are sampled and held by an S/H circuit 11 to become a picture element signal C having a stairecase waveform, and this signal C is converted to a digital picture element signal string D by an A/D convering circuit 12. The signal string D is supplied to not only the addition side terminal of an operating circuit 13 but also a one-line delay circuit 14. A digital picture element signal string E of the preceding line outputted from the circuit 14 is multiplied by a proper coefficient set in accordance with the afterglow characteristic by a coefficient circuit 15 and is supplied as a digital picture element signal string F to the subtraction side terminal of the circuit 13. A signal string F for afterglow correction is subtracted from the signal string D by the circuit 13 to output an afterglow-corrected digital picture element signal string G to an output terminal OUT.

(Problem to be Solved by the Invention) In the conventional multi-chip line sensor described above, the transfer efficiency of the built-in analog line memory is insufficient, so the level of the read optical signal is equal to the level of the optical signal of the previous line. There is a problem in that a phenomenon affected by this phenomenon, a so-called afterglow phenomenon, occurs. Under this afterglow, it becomes difficult to obtain high-quality image information for character recognition and the like.

As shown in the waveform diagram in Fig. 3, the analog pixel signal (B) with one line period supplied to the input terminal IN of the afterglow compensation circuit IO is transmitted to the illumination emitter installed near the line sensor. It rises simultaneously with the rise of the operation start command (A) to the tactile diode array (not shown). The 1947-minute analog pixel signal (B) is sampled and held by the sample/hold circuit 1.
The pixel signal is sampled and held at 1 and has a stepped waveform (

In the example of FIG. 3, it is assumed that 20% of the level of each pixel signal in the immediately preceding line leaks into the level of the corresponding pixel signal in the immediately succeeding line as afterglow. Therefore, the line delay circuit 14 and coefficient circuit 15 create a pseudo afterglow level that is 20% of the level of each pixel signal of the immediately preceding line, and this is the pixel signal of the current line that is supplied to the addition terminal of the subtraction circuit. Afterglow correction is performed by subtracting it from the level.
