Abstract

PURPOSE:To print a normal character even with the break of a part of a printing head by controlling a printer so as to drive a printable needle pin in place of a broken unprintable needle pin. CONSTITUTION:If a broken needle pin exists in a printing head 1, a switch on an operation board is operated to set the pin number of the appropriate pin to a non-volatile memory part 2. A selection part 4 identifies the presence of a broken needle pin. If it does not exist, a normal one-line printing is conducted, and the line is fed by the amount of 1 LF. If it exists, the selection part 4 selects and determines a substitute needle pin for the broken needle pin. Then, a printing is conducted without driving the broken needle pin, thus resulting in the omission of a part (the n-th row) corresponding to the undriven broken needle pin. Next, a feed control circuit 5 feeds the line only by the amount of 1-dot LF. A partial printing control circuit 6 drives the substituted needle pin to conduct printing. Then, the n-th row is printed, and a normal printing character is obtained. The line is fed by the amount of subtraction of 1-dot LF from 1 LF, and the aforesaid action is repeated hereafter.

[Prior Art] A conventional dot impact serial printer has a print head equipped with a plurality of needle pins, and prints by driving the needle pins. Since each needle pin of this print head is not used on an average basis, there is a possibility that only a certain needle pin has a limit on the number of times it can be used, resulting in M loss. In this case, for example, as shown in FIG. 5, printing is performed with the nth character out of the printed characters missing.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] In this conventional dot impact serial printer, if a particular needle pin is damaged, characters cannot be printed normally, and unless the print head is replaced with a new one, the problem shown in Fig. 5 will occur. As shown, there was a problem in that printing quality deteriorated due to omission of printing for one column (n columns).

[Means for Solving the Problems] The technical means of the present invention for solving such problems is to solve the problem in a dot-impact serial printer that prints using a plurality of needle pins of the print head. A non-volatile memory unit that stores the position of the needle pin, a selection unit that selects another printable alternative needle pin to be printed in place of the non-printable needle pin stored in the memory unit, and a selection unit that selects the needle pin position. The printer is equipped with a movement control circuit that moves the substitute needle pin that has been moved to the printing position of the needle pin that cannot be printed, and a partial printing control circuit that drives the moved substitute needle pin to print the portion that was not printed. be.

As shown in FIG. 1, the configuration of the dot impact serial printer according to the embodiment includes a print head 1 equipped with a plurality of needle pins and a control section 3. It is provided with a non-volatile memory section 2 which stores the position of the needle pin by setting its number. This memory section 2 functions by operating a switch on the operation panel when a breakage of the needle pin is discovered. Further, the control unit 3 stores the position of the non-printable needle pin stored in the storage unit 2, and also uses other printable alternative needle pins to print in place of the non-printable needle pin based on this memory. A selection unit 4 selects and determines the needle pin, and a movement system (wholesale circuit 5) moves the substitute needle pin selected by the selection unit 4 to the printing position of the needle pin that cannot print. A partial printing control circuit 6 is provided for printing the portions that have not been printed.
