Abstract

PURPOSE:To read the top face and underside of a three-dimensional substance without changing its posture by providing a first read means to read an original in an underside direction and a second read means to read out in a top face direction. CONSTITUTION:When the underside image of a three-dimensional original 3 is read by a first optical system 4 of the first read means, an image sensor is erected, a first exposure light source 6 is lit up, the lower part of platen glass 5 is horizontally scanned by a driving motor, and the underside image of the original 3 is read. When the top face of the original 3 is read by a second optical system 19 of the second read means, the sensor 9 is laid down, the original 3 is irradiated in the top face direction by a second exposure light source, and thus the top face image is read through reflecting mirrors 15 and 16, and a second image formation lens 18. Consequently, only by placing the original 3 on the platen glass 5 of an original mounting stand, the top face and underside images can be simultaneously or successively read.
