Abstract

PURPOSE:To apply both a hard coating and a soft coating therewith by a method wherein laminated member is prepared by laminating thin lens protective material layer onto the surface of film made of synthetic resin, which is compatible with the synthetic resin constituting a lens, and, after that, formed under heat and pressure into a box covering the surface of the lens and finally molded by an in-mold method for manufacturing the lens. CONSTITUTION:Hardening-treated film 7 is prepared by producing hard coating 6 into synthetic resin film 5, which is compatible with a lens, by spraying hardening coating with a curtain coater. As the film 5, polycarbonate or polyvinyl chloride is exampled. A formed film 7' is obtained by being subjected to forming under that heat and pressure under the condition that the hardened film 7 is pinched between a bottom force 8 and a top force 9 and sucked by vacuum as indicated with the arrows (c). A box-like outer shell 11 is produced by cutting off with a cutter 10 both ends of the film 7' so as to leave its front surface 7a and side surface 7b. The outer shell 11 is set to a female mold 12 and clamped together with a male mold 13 as indicated with the arrow (d) so as to injection-mold a lens 15 with synthetic resin material and at the same time mold outer shell 11 by an in-mold method. Soft coating can also be done similarly.

Further, when painting with a spray gun 3a as shown in FIG. 5, a uniform coating film can be formed relatively easily while moving the spray gun 3a in the direction of arrow a to paint the front surface 2a of the lens 2. However, in order to paint the side surface 2bti of the lens 2, you must move the spray gun in the direction of the arrow and spray the paint from position 3b indicated by the imaginary line.Since this side surface 2b is slanted, the paint film will not form properly. Similar problems occur when a curtain coater 4 is used as shown in FIG. 6, which tends to cause problems such as flow, wrinkles, and uneven thickness while having fluidity.

The process of constructing a thin layer of material to protect the lens on the surface of a synthetic resin lens can be done by forming a thin layer (coating film) on a flat film by painting, so it can be mass-produced at a specialized factory. Therefore, products of stable quality can be supplied at low cost.
