Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a lock mechanism upon opening and/or closing bipod by a method wherein one of the bipod is provided with a lock pin, to which an operating piece from which a cam is projected is attached, at the pivoting base thereof while the bipod of opposite side is provided with a lock plate, extended from a pivoting piece. CONSTITUTION:When the bipod is carried while being closed, the leg closing lock surface 21B of a lock plate 21 is hooked to the projected part of a lock pin 14 and an energizing force generated by a spring 10 is controlled whereby the leg rods 2, 2A are locked in the closed state without opening the bipod. When the bipod is attached to a firearm, an operating piece 15 is turned clockwise, then, a slanted lifting surface 17 is engaged with the side wall 13A of a cam groove 13 and is slid upward whereby the lock pin 14 is lifted up while pressing another spring 20, the tip end of the lock pin 14, being projected so far, is positioned in the same plane as the side surface of breech side or inserted slightly into an inserting hole 12 to release locking and, therefore, the bipod rods 2, 2A are opened by the force of the spring 10. When the bipod 2, 2A of the mounted legs 1 are to be locked, the pivoted operating piece 15 should be turned reversely.

Conventional technology and its problems It is widely known that detachable legs are attached to military guns to improve shooting accuracy, and many legs dedicated to each gun have been proposed and used. The breech leg must not fall off the gun during combat operations with intense movement, and must be easy to attach and detach. Considering the conventionally used legs from this point of view, there is one (M16) in which the two leg levers are always urged to the open leg state by springs and does not have a locking mechanism for one leg lever. Since this leg does not lock the leg rod, there is a risk of it falling off as described above, and furthermore, when it is removed from the gun and carried, it has the disadvantage that it must be stored in the case against the spring force. ner63 has a locking device, but the operation part is small and there are problems with operability when using gloves, etc.
Furthermore, some guns require special operations when being attached and detached, and some have problems when attached and detached in an emergency (HK), etc. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, and there is no one that can satisfy all of them.

Further, in the insertion hole, a lock pin is attached with an operation piece having an arc-shaped cam protruding from the back surface consisting of an inclined lifting surface, a holding surface, and a locking piece, and the cam is inserted into the cam groove. A spring biases the insertion hole in the direction of protrusion, and the leg rod on the opposite side is provided with a locking pivot, which is an extension of the pivot piece, so that the insertion hole can be inserted into the insertion hole both when the legs are opened and when the legs are closed. This eliminates the drawbacks of the prior art by locking the locking pivot on a slightly protruding locking pin.
