Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove speedily, through a simple processing, the sense of incongruity created in a boundary at the time of synthesizing a picture by performing ratio mixing calculation for two pictures by the use of the value at which a mask image is smoothed, and outputting a composite picture. CONSTITUTION:A picture composing device is provided with a background picture memory 11, an inserting picture memory 12, and a mask picture memory 13; the inserting picture memory 12 stores a set mask picture having the same picture size as a background image and an inserting image. A mask picture smoothing device 14 reads picture elements with an objective picture element concerned being their center, from the mask picture memory 13; then, the device 14 multiplies a weight value corresponding to 3X3 smoothing filter and finds the sum of the multiplied values, thereby obtaining the objective picture element value of the picture element concerned. Then, all picture elements in the mask picture memory 13 are smoothed to be supplied to a mixing arithmetic unit 15. In the arithmetic unit 15, ratio mixing calculation for the background and inserting pictures is performed by using the picture element value of the smoothed picture image, so that the picture element value of the composite picture is obtained. This achieves the alteration of a mixing condition around the boundary of the composite picture, and eliminates the sense of incongruity.

(Prior Art) When synthesizing one image by fitting it into another image, a method has conventionally been used in which a mask image is used to designate an area in which the image is to be fitted. In this case, if there is a sudden difference in density at the boundary between the two images, it will give a visual discomfort, so in order to alleviate this discomfort, the ratio near the boundary between the two images is adjusted according to the - distance from the boundary. Techniques that have been used include performing a mixing operation on the cumulative values of two images, or simply merging the two images together and then blurring the image using an appropriate smoothing filter only near the boundary.

(Problems to be solved by the invention) However, with the former method, it takes time to calculate the distance from the boundary, and the ratio according to the distance cannot sufficiently suppress the sharp concentration difference at the boundary. In the latter method, the resolution of the original image is lost near the boundaries, it is troublesome to detect and smooth only the areas near the boundaries, and in the case of color images, each surface of R, G, B However, there are disadvantages such as the need for smoothing, which takes a long time to process.

The mask image smoothing device 14 performs smoothing processing using, for example, a 3×3 smoothing filter as shown in FIG. That is,
The mask image smoothing device 14 reads out 3×3 pixels centered on a certain pixel of interest from the mask image memory 13, and applies the corresponding weight value of a 3×3 smoothing filter as shown in FIG. 5 to each pixel. The total sum of each multiplication value is determined and is used as the mask pixel value of the pixel of interest. Such processing is performed on all pixels of the mask image in the mask image memory 3 to generate a smoothed mask image, which is then sent to the mixing arithmetic unit 1.
Supply to 5. When the mask image of FIG. 4 is processed by the smoothing filter of FIG. 5, a smoothed mask image as shown in FIG. 6 is generated.

Several types of filters are prepared in the mask image synthesis device 14,
Is it possible to select and use this? Need by rubbing? Accordingly, the degree of smoothing of the mask image can be changed. Therefore, if you display a composite image on the output display device 17 and do not get a satisfactory result, you can select a different smoothing filter and rerun the process to improve the degree of mixing near the boundaries of the composite image. It becomes possible to change.

(Effects of the Invention) As explained above, according to the present invention, the ratio mixing operation of two images is performed using the value obtained by smoothing the mask image.
A sudden change in density at the boundary between two images can be made gentler in a natural way, and visual discomfort can be eliminated. Also, only the mask image is smoothed,
There is no need for troublesome operations such as detecting only the vicinity of the boundary between two images to be combined, and the processing can be performed quickly using simple hardware.
