There is a two-component developing device in which a developer carrier carries magnetic carrier particles and toner is attached to the carrier to form a magnetic brush, and only the toner is transferred to the latent image carrier. Both devices have the same principle. is well known, and an explanation of its principle will be omitted here. In both devices, in order to carry a constant thickness of toner on the surface of the developer carrier, a regulating member is often arranged with a certain gap, or a two-component developing device that forms a magnetic brush with the carrier. One of the features is that a large amount of developer can be applied on the surface of the developer carrier, and therefore the gap is also large.

The starting agent 7 is not applied at all in the area up to the lower scattering prevention seal 11 including the developing area. In this embodiment, the regulating member 14
A sheet-shaped gap adjusting member 10 is inserted into the gap between the developing sleeve 5 and the developing sleeve 5, and the gap adjusting member 10 is attached at one end to the inside of the developer container 12 through the gap, and the other end is attached to the inside of the developer container 12 through the gap. and is drawn out of the process cartridge through the development area. The above gap adjustment member I
One end located inside the developer container 12 of O is removably glued inside the developer container 12, and can be easily pulled out by the installer when installing the process cartridge by pulling the other end protruding from the outside of the process cartridge. It is now possible to do so.

材10の材質は特に限定されないが。Since the gap is substantially reduced by providing the gap adjustment member 10 described in E, even if the process cartridge is subjected to vibrations or shocks during handling before use, the start developer 7 can pass through this gap for development. It is extremely rare for the developer to leak into the area near the photosensitive drum 1 and the developing sleeve 5, thereby preventing damage to the photosensitive member 1 due to the developer. Furthermore, even if the developer leaks out, the gap adjustment member 10 or the photoreceptor 1 is protected, making it even safer. The material of the gap adjustment member 10 is not particularly limited.

The starting agent 7 is placed in the developer container 12 in advance, and the developer container 1 is held by the binding force due to the magnetic force of the magnet 6, the narrow gap, and the lower scattering seal 11.
It remains trapped within 2. The starting agent 7 has a toner content slightly lower than the toner content during a predetermined developing operation to increase magnetic permeability, and the developing sleeve 5
If the starting agent 7 is strongly restrained by the magnet 6 inside, the starting agent 7 will hardly shift even if subjected to vibration or impact during handling before use. Even if the agent seal 9 is opened at approximately the same time, a predetermined saturation can be obtained, and a high-quality image can be obtained with good developability and without occurrence of so-called white spots or black spots or leakage of developing bias due to damage to the photoreceptor. be able to.

FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the developing device before use (installation 22), in which 91 is a spring member that pulls the regulating member 14 upward, 92 is a spacer that presses the regulating member 14 against the surface of the developing sleeve 5, 9
3 is a support member that supports the regulation member 14. The regulating member 14 is movably guided by the supporting member 93 in the direction of the arrow a by a known means, and is constantly pulled upward by the spring member 91 to prevent it from rising to the regulating member setting surface of the supporting member 93. Blocked developing sleeve 5

It is pulled up by the spring member 91 so that the position thereof is a predetermined gap, and it continues to be maintained at the predetermined position by the force of the spring member 91 and the pushing force of the developer 7 even during the image forming operation (
(See Figure 5).

Then, the effect of solving the problem on part a is obtained. Furthermore, if the gap adjustment member is formed into a removable sheet and is applied to the developing area, even if a small amount leaks, it will not damage the surface of the latent image carrier.
