Abstract

PURPOSE:To draw out the cooling capacity of a cooling fan to the max. extent by forming a pedestal to a shape having a vent hole for converging the wind of the cooling fan and providing a wind guide structure to a guide plate. CONSTITUTION:The pedestal 8 has the vent hole 9R in the relative position with the wind guide structure 10R in the upper part thereof to converge the wind generated by the cooling fan 7 to the vent hole 9R. The wind converted to the hole 9R is divided to the wind blown right upward and the wind trying to escape to the outside from the center of rotation of the fan 7. The former passes the spacing between a liquid crystal light valve 3R and an exit side polarizing plate 13R and the spacing between the light valve 3R and an incident side polarizing plate 12R to deprive the polarizing plates 12R, 13R of the surface heat thereof and blows by to the upper part from the hole provided to an upper plate 14. The latter is changed in the direction toward the polarizing plate 12R by the wind guide structure 10R provided to the guide plate 6R and passes a window 15R for incidence at the center of the guide plate 6R to deprive the polarizing plate 12R of the surface heat thereof. This wind is changed in the direction by the polarizing plate 12R and is blown by to the outside.

However, in a conventional optical system unit, when a cooling fan is used as a cooling means, for example, wind is generated as shown by the arrow in FIG.
Although wind flows over the surface of the polarizing plates attached to the liquid crystal light valves 3B and 3G and cools the polarizing plates attached to the liquid crystal light valves 3B and 3G, as is clear from FIG.
, the cooling efficiency was at a low level because there was a lot of wind escaping to the outside, regardless of the cooling of the polarizing plate attached to the 3G.

Therefore, in order to improve the cooling capacity in terms of cooling efficiency, it is necessary to improve the cooling capacity of the cooling fan, which requires increasing the size of the cooling fan, which leads to an increase in the size of the display device. In addition, there is a problem in that when the cooling fan is used at a conventional cooling efficiency, it is difficult to increase the output luminous flux of the display device without increasing the size of the cooling fan.

FIG. 2 is an external side view of the optical system unit according to the embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 6 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken along the optical axis A-A in the figure. In FIG. 3, only the red liquid crystal light valve 3R and its peripheral structure will be explained, but structurally, the green liquid crystal light valve 3G and the blue liquid crystal light valve 6B and their surroundings i]1. The same is true for jy construction. The liquid crystal light valve 3R is fastened to the liquid crystal light valve plate 11R with screws, and the liquid crystal light valve plate 11R is fastened to the guide plate 6R with screws.
The guide plate 6R is held by fastening to the up plate 14 with screws. LCD light valve 3R is
In order to display an image, it is necessary to arrange polarizing plates 12R and 13R before and after the liquid crystal light valve 6.
A polarizing plate 12R on the light incident side with respect to R is attached to the surface of the guide plate 6R on the prism 4 side, and a polarizing plate 13R on the light output side with respect to the liquid crystal light valve 3R is attached to the prism 4. The guide plate 6R has a window 15R for light incidence in the center, and a wind guiding structure 10R below the window 15R. On the other hand, the base 8 not only includes the cooling fan 7, but also holds the prism 4 between it and the up plate 14, and holds the liquid crystal light valve 3R held by the up plate 14' and its surrounding structure. . The base 8 also has a ventilation hole 9R at a position relative to the upper air guide structure 10R, and a cooling fan 7
The wind generated by this is converged into the ventilation hole 9R. The wind that converges in the ventilation hole 9H blows directly upwards and the cooling fan 7
The former passes between the liquid crystal light valve 3R and the output side polarizing plate 13R, and between the liquid crystal light valve 3R and the input side polarizing plate 12R, and the former passes through the polarizing plate 12R, It takes away the heat from the surface of 13B and blows through the hole provided in the up plate 14 to the upper part. The direction of the latter is changed to the direction of the polarizing plate 12R by the air guiding structure 10R provided on the guide plate 6R, and the light passes through the light entrance window 15R at the center of the guide plate 6R, removes heat from the surface of the polarizing plate 12R, and becomes polarized light. Change direction with plate 12R and blow through to the outside.

A schematic representation of these wind flows is shown in Figure 4. The light incident side polarizing plate 121 absorbs about 60% of the heat of the light due to its polarizing effect, and its surface temperature increases in particular. However, by efficiently cooling its front and back surfaces as described above, the polarizing properties can be improved. In recent years, as the demand for display devices that are light, thin, short, and have high output luminous flux has increased,
This example of efficiently cooling a polarizing plate related to a liquid crystal light valve using a small cooling fan becomes increasingly effective.

When display devices become lighter, thinner, and smaller in the future, a thin base 16 as shown in FIG. 6 will be used instead of the base 8 of this example shown in FIG. 5, and a cooling fan will be installed from the bottom of the liquid crystal light valve. 1
8 is separated and the air from the cooling fan 18 is sent from the lens direction to the base 16 using the air guide pipe 17, the same air flow as in this example can be expected, which is very effective in making the display device lighter, thinner, and smaller. .

As explained above, the present invention does not change the basic configuration of the conventional optical system unit, but the base is made into a shape that includes a cooling fan and has ventilation holes that converge the cooling fan's wind.
Guide plate for fixing and adjusting the liquid crystal light bulb.
By providing a wind guide structure to guide the air converged by the ventilation holes in the base to the surface of the polarizing plate, it is possible to maximize the cooling capacity of the cooling fan, making it possible to use a small cooling fan. This makes it possible to realize a display device that is light, thin, short, and has a high output luminous flux.
