炉の開発が進められている。Today, as nuclear power generation accounts for an increasing proportion of the total power generation landscape, providing a stable supply of electricity over a long period of time has become an important issue. Nuclear reactors currently in operation contain a few percent of 235U, which is approximately 0.72% in natural uranium.
The most common type is one that generates electricity using only enriched uranium as fuel. However, it is estimated that the amount of uranium ore used to make enriched uranium that can be mined at a reasonable cost is approximately 3.0 x 108 tons in the form of UaOa, and if this continues, it will not be until the first half of the 20th century. It is believed that uranium resources will be depleted in the next few years. Therefore, compared to conventional light water reactors (hereinafter simply referred to as light water reactors), high conversion light water reactors are being developed with a lower water-to-fuel atomic ratio of 1 to 3 and a higher conversion ratio.

As shown in 7), the fuel pellet 1 is characterized in that it uses a uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuel pellet, which is a homogeneous mixture of uranium dioxide and plutonium dioxide. The use of these uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuel pellets uses natural uranium or low enrichment uranium, so it is effective in terms of reducing the cost of enriching uranium and effectively utilizing uranium resources. be. 問題点があった。In the above conventional technology, when nuclear fuel rods loaded with uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuel pellets are used in a boiling water type pit converter reactor, the void ratio is high in the upper part of the reactor core, and therefore the ratio of moderator to fuel atoms is lower in the lower part of the reactor core. The fact that the neutron flux spectrum is harder above the core has not been taken into account, and the same uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuel pellets are used above and below the core. 。The above purpose is to lower the proportion of plutonium-240 in the uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuel pellets that make up the nuclear fuel rods, which are located in areas with a high void ratio during reactor operation, and to This is achieved by increasing the void content of uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuel pellets in locations with low void fraction.

ようになるので、高い転換比の実現が可能になる。This is because the resonance energy is as low as 1 eV with a large resonance cross section of 240 pu. Therefore, within a nuclear fuel rod, pellets with a small proportion of plutonium-240 are placed in areas with a high void rate, and conversely, pellets with a high proportion of plutonium-240 are placed in areas with a low void rate. By making nuclear fuel rods,
Since it becomes possible to take into account changes in the neutron flux spectrum due to void fraction, it becomes possible to realize a high conversion ratio.

This figure shows the relationship between the void ratio and the conversion ratio when the atomic number density of uranium 235.238 and plutonium 240 is changed (the sum of the atomic number densities of uranium 235.238 and plutonium 240 is constant). In addition,
Natural uranium is used to increase economic efficiency, and the water-to-fuel volume ratio is 0.6 to achieve a high conversion ratio. B, C, and D are cases where the proportion of plutonium-240 contained is 1/2 and 2.3 times that of average plutonium, respectively. From this figure, it can be seen that the change in the conversion ratio due to the void ratio is larger when B, that is, less plutonium 240 is contained.

実現することができる。This is due to the following reason. In other words, the larger the void fraction, the harder the neutron flux spectrum becomes, and the larger the percentage of uranium-238 contained, the harder the neutron flux spectrum becomes in the resonance energy region.
The 38U (n, y) 239pu production reaction increases, but the "OPu (ny y)"'Pu production reaction decreases. Furthermore, it can be seen that when the void ratio is 30% or less, the conversion ratio becomes almost constant for fuels containing a large proportion of plutonium-240 (for example, C and D). For this reason, in the nuclear fuel rod of the present invention, the conversion ratio is greatly increased by arranging low plutonium-240 fuel in areas with a high void ratio in the reactor core, and conversely, high plutonium-240 fuel is placed in areas with a low void ratio in the reactor core. A high conversion ratio can be achieved by arranging the fuel to minimize the reduction in the conversion ratio.
