Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform contact pressure of a developing roll to an image carrier by supporting gear transmission systems coupled to a developing roll by a casing of a developing device. CONSTITUTION:A developing roll 9 is coupled to a gear transmission system 14 supported in the end part of one side by a casing 8 of the developing device, and the gear transmission system 14 is coupled to an output shaft 15 of a driv ing device 20 arranged on the side opposite to a gear transmission system 13 of the developing roll 9. Consequently, a component of the driving force of gears is not transmitted as the variance of pressure to the developing roll 9 because gear transmission systems 13 and 14 are supported by the same casing 8. An influence of axial deviation is avoided by extending the length between a driving motor 20 and the driving gear 14 or interposing a joint there. Thus, a uniform contact pressure of the developing roll 9 to an image carrier 1 is held.

像ローラにおいては歯車の圧力角(通常は2o°)によ
り現像ローラの支軸に対して駆動分力が作用し、その駆
動分力に基づいて現像ローラの像担持体、例えば感光ド
ラムに対する接触圧が増大もしくは減少する。この歯車
系による駆動分力は主に現像ローラの歯車系側端部付近
において作用し、歯車系を設けた側とは反対側の端部に
おいては歯車系の駆動分力の作用は生じない。このため
に現像ローラと感光ドラムとの間の接触圧が不均一にな
る。このような不均一・な接触圧は現像された可視像の
トナー濃度に差を生じたり、コピー(7) 地汚れや解
像度の低下を招くという問題がある。つまり接触不良に
基づく白ヌケや画像濃度むらや圧力過多に基づく地肌汚
れやジター等を生しるという傾向がある。
