When constructing a color liquid crystal display element, as shown in FIG. 4, color filter portions 1 of three primary colors, red IR, green IG, and blue IB, are formed on one substrate 11 in a striped or mosaic pattern. A transparent electrode 31 is formed on this color filter portion l. A transparent electrode 32 is formed on the other substrate 12. The liquid crystal LC is a color display element sandwiched between these two substrates 11 and 12 and configured as shown in FIG. After that, the amount of light transmitted is adjusted by the liquid crystal LC, which is a light shutter, and the light components that have passed through the substrate 12 are observed as emitted light by humans as colored light.

However, in this method, the smoothing agent is made of a different material from that of the substrate and color filter and is formed as a thick film, so the resin used as the smoothing agent is baked during heating or when forming transparent electrodes. There is a problem in that the coating film of the agent tends to crack. Further, as a countermeasure to this problem, it may be possible to apply a smoothing agent to reduce the film thickness, but in this case, a problem arises in that the surface of the color filter portion is not sufficiently flattened. Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 6, in the above method, the smoothing agent is formed on the surface of the color filter substrate so as to have a uniform film thickness, so the level difference between the space in the color filter section and the color filter section is eliminated. When the transparent electrode provided on this is formed into a predetermined pattern using the photolithography method,
An important problem arises in that the finer the pattern, the more likely the transparent electrode wiring is to break.

The method includes the step of flattening the surface of the color filter substrate by applying a smoothing agent to fill the recesses on the surface of the color filter part and the spaces in the color filter part.

There are different types. One is relatively small irregularities caused by pigment particles contained in the printing ink, and the other is relatively large irregularities that occur when the ink is transferred from the printing roll to the substrate during printing. These irregularities can be removed by applying a smoothing agent 21 to the surface of the color filter section 1 using a squeegee method as shown in FIG.
A smoothing agent 21 is embedded in the concave portions, and the smoothing agent adhering to the convex portions is scraped off by the squeegee 51, so that no smoothing agent adheres to the convex portions. In this way, unevenness on the surface of the color filter section 1 that occurs during printing is flattened. Further, as shown in FIG. 2, the smoothing agent 21 is also embedded in the recessed portion of the color filter portion l, for example, in the space between the red IR and the green IG, using a squeegee. In this way, the unevenness on the surface of the color filter section 1 that occurs during printing and the unevenness in the space of the color filter section 1 are flattened.

On top, red, green, and blue pigment inks were printed using the lithographic offset method so that the film thickness after baking was approximately 2 μm.
The color filter parts 1 of each color (red IR, green IG, blue IB) are formed into a stripe shape, and then heated to harden the binder resin in the ink.As shown in FIG. A smoothing agent 21 made of transparent resin is applied to the entire surface of the end of the substrate 11 on the filter portion 1, and the smoothing agent 21 is applied to one side of the substrate 11 while pressing a squeegee 51 made of silicone rubber against the color filter portion 11. Move to the edges and apply. FIG. 1 shows how the smoothing agent 21 is applied by the squeegee method. The arrow in the figure indicates the direction of movement of the squeegee. In the embodiment of the present invention, the color filter section 1 is formed in a striped pattern, and the moving direction of the squeegee 51 is parallel to the striped pattern of the color filter section 1. As you can see from Figure 1, G
A smoothing agent 21 is embedded in the recess of the color filter section 1 after the squeegee 51 has moved. Further, as shown in FIG. 2, a smoothing agent is also embedded in the space between each color of the color filter section 1, for example, the space between the red IR and the green 10 of the color filter section 1. Thereafter, the resin of the smoothing agent 21 is cured by heating. Thereby, the color filter of the present invention is obtained.

。Effects of the Invention As described above, according to the present invention, it is possible to improve the flatness of the surface of the color filter section and the space between each color of the color filter section using extremely simple equipment and methods. be. This makes it possible to obtain a color filter in which the wiring of the transparent electrode film formed on the color filter substrate is also less likely to be disconnected. Furthermore, it is also possible to prevent cranking of the smoothing agent even if a thermal process is applied.
