Abstract

PURPOSE:To almost simultaneously carry out the development, electrification, exposure and cleaning by using a liquid developing system by projecting light on an image in an area where liquid developer is agitated lightly from the side of a transparent conductive supporting body. CONSTITUTION:Electrified toner is sufficiently electrified with positive ions, and does not stick to the surface of a photosensitive body 8 even if the body enters the area where the liquid developer is agitated lightly, because the toner is fully electrified. When an image is irradiated 3 with light in the area from the side of the transparent conductive supporting body 1, positive and negative charge carriers are excited in a photosensitive layer, and negative charges neutralize electrified charges to drop the surface potential of the photosensitive body 8. Since a development bias electrode plate 13 is positively biased, an electric field arises in the gap between its surface and the surface of the photosensitive body 8, and the positively electrified toner sticks to the surface of the photosensitive body 8. Since the agitation is weak in this area, the stuck toner is not removed. Thus the electrification, exposure, developing and cleaning can be almost simultaneously carried out only with one developing system 9.

(2) Prior art "Electrophotography" (Imori Publishing, 1972 p.
, 65). A liquid developer 7 is applied to the surface of the photoconductive layer 2 by a metal roller 6 whose outer side of a metal core 5 is coated with a semiconductor 4, the principle of which is shown in FIG. A voltage is applied between the transparent conductive support 1 and the metal core 5 of the roller. In the photoconductor M2 in the irradiated area, the potential drop between the surface of the photoconductor N2 and the semiconductor 4 increases where the light is irradiated. This causes the toner particles to be drawn from the liquid film on the metal roller 6 to the surface of the photoconductive layer 2. In the dark, the potentials of the two surfaces have extremely low values, so
This method, which fails to attract particles from the liquid film, requires cleaning before development. Furthermore, it is difficult to control the thickness of the liquid film on the semiconductor, and high precision is required for the development gap.

The most important feature is that a region where the liquid developer is strongly stirred and a region where the liquid developer is weakly stirred are provided, and the light image is irradiated from the transparent conductive support side in the region where the liquid developer is weakly stirred. The structure of the developing section is different from the conventional one.

A photoreceptor 8 made of a transparent conductive support 1 and a photoconductor N2 is brought into close proximity to a developing device 9, and a liquid developer is brought into contact with the surface of the photoreceptor 8. The partition plate 10 is for partitioning a region where the liquid developer is strongly agitated and a region where the liquid developer is agitated weakly. The stirrer 11 serves as a kind of pump. The flow rate is increased so that the liquid developer 7 strongly hits the surface of the photoreceptor 8 in the area on the right side of the partition plate 10.
on the left side? The flow rate is made small so that the liquid developer 7 weakly hits the surface of the photoreceptor 8 in the il range.

The gap between the partition plate lO and the surface of the photoreceptor 8 is adjusted. Of course, the pump 11 may also be used in the area on the left side of the partition plate 10, and the flow rates of the two pumps may be adjusted to vary the intensity of stirring. In this case, there is no need to use a special partition lO. Charging bias electrode plate 12. The development bias electrode plate 13 is provided close to the surface of the photoreceptor 8. Charging bias 14 as shown in FIG. When the toner is positively charged, a positive bias is preferable for the developing bias 5, but it goes without saying that a negative bias is preferable when the toner is negatively charged.

When the photoreceptor 8 is moved as shown by the arrow 17 and enters an area where the liquid developer in the developing device 9 is strongly agitated, the residual toner 16 is pulled away from the surface of the photoreceptor 8 by a strong flow and cleaned. At the same time, by applying a positive charging bias 14 to the charging bias electrode plate 12, negative ions are adsorbed to the charging bias electrode plate 12, and positive ions and positively charged toner are adsorbed to the surface of the photoreceptor 8. The charged toner is separated by the strong flow and is sufficiently charged with positive ions. Therefore, even when the photoreceptor enters an area where the liquid developer is weakly agitated, it remains sufficiently charged. Therefore, positively charged toner does not adhere to the surface of the photoreceptor 8.

In that area, light image irradiation 3 is applied from the i3 bright conductive support 1 side.
When this is done, positive and negative charge carriers are excited in the photosensitive layer, the negative g1 charge neutralizes the charged charge, and the potential on the surface of the photosensitive member 8 decreases. Since the developing bias electrode plate 13 is positively biased, an electric field is generated between the developing bias electrode plate 13 and the surface of the photoreceptor 8, and positively charged toner adheres to the surface of the photoreceptor 8. Since the agitation is slow in this area, the attached toner is not removed. In this way, the developing unit 9 charges and
Exposure, development, and cleaning can be performed almost simultaneously.

(5) As described in detail of the invention, according to the second invention, in the contact area between the liquid developer and the photoreceptor, there is a region where the liquid developer is strongly agitated and a region where the liquid developer is weakly agitated. By irradiating a light image from the side of the transparent conductive support in the weakly stirred region (1), development, charging, exposure, and cleaning can be performed almost simultaneously, making it possible to provide a compact electrophotographic device that can reproduce high-quality recordings. There are advantages.
