Description
The present invention relates to an image processing device, an image processing system, and a program.
Conventionally, methods for correcting the color gradation used in image formation are known.
For example, in image formation using CMYK and white toners, the image forming device first forms a calibration image on a recording medium based on pre-stored patch data using a calibration mode or the like. In this way, the image forming device produces a calibration sheet, which is a recording medium having a calibration image formed based on the patch data. The calibration sheet is then optically read using a scanner or the like to obtain the density of the area formed on the calibration sheet. Methods for performing tone correction and the like in this way are known (see, for example,
However, in conventional methods, it may be desirable to be able to specify the colors, etc., to be corrected. For example, in conventional methods, tone correction is performed even on colors that do not require correction, which may lengthen the processing time required for correction. Therefore, it may be desirable to shorten the correction processing time by narrowing down the objects to be corrected.
One aspect of the present invention aims to shorten the correction processing time.

Below, an example will be described in which the image forming device can form an image using a total of five colors, including four colors of CMYK and one special color, as shown in the figure. However, this is not limited to this, and the image forming device may also be capable of forming an image using four colors of CMYK and two or more special colors.
For example, the display unit displays either the GUI of FIG. 8(A) or FIG. 8(B). Note that the GUI for specifying the color to be corrected may be a GUI other than that shown in the figure.
Figure 8 (A) is a screen that displays a combination of color materials that has been determined in advance and allows the user to select them. When the user selects a combination of color materials (the shaded areas in Figure 8 (A) are the selected color materials) and presses the "OK" button, the reception unit accepts the selected combination of color materials as the color to be corrected.
Figure 8 (B) is a screen that displays any combination of color materials that the user can select. When the user selects a color material (the "●" in Figure 8 (B) indicates the selected color material) and presses the "OK" button, the reception unit accepts the selected combination of color materials as the color to be corrected.
The special colors are fluorescent yellow, fluorescent pink, white, clear, metallic, or a combination of these. There may be two or more special colors. Each color may be changeable to another color by replacing the toner. Examples of special colors are described below.
In the example shown in FIG. 8(A), if you want to specify the four colors of "CMYK" or any one of the four colors as the color to be corrected, you can select the option "CMYK" to specify CMYK as the color to be corrected.
Similarly, "CMYK+Special" is an option used to specify both CMYK and a special color as the color to be corrected.
Furthermore, "Special only" is an option used to specify a special color as the color to be corrected.
In this way, the color entered via the UI, etc., is designated as the color to be corrected, and is the target of subsequent correction and other processing.

The reference value is, for example, an ideal value obtained when a gradation image formed on a recording medium based on image data showing a gradation patch, such as a so-called test chart, is measured with a colorimeter. The reference value may be set in advance, or the user may register the colorimetric value obtained from the colorimetric measurement of an image showing a gradation patch as the reference value.
The reference value is, for example, density, brightness, chromaticity, saturation, glossiness, or a combination of these. The sensor may be an optical scanner or the like. In this case, the reference value is, for example, an RGB value. Furthermore, the reference value may be a Lab value obtained by converting the RGB value. Also, for example, the gradation correction pattern is prepared in advance as follows.
Figure 9 is a diagram showing an example of a screen displayed by the display unit when black (K) is specified as the color to be corrected. Below, an example will be described in which a UI like that shown in the figure is used. In this example, a thumbnail image of a printout on which a gradation correction pattern is image-formed is displayed on the screen. This screen etc. then shows the user which part to measure. For example, when "CMYK" or "CMYK+Special" is specified, since "K" is included, a screen like that shown in the figure is displayed. This example also shows the user the reference value to be obtained with an arrow.
For example, if cyan (C) is specified, the screen will look like this:
Figure 10 is a diagram showing an example of a screen displayed by the display unit when cyan (C) is specified as the color to be corrected. Compared to Figure 9, Figure 10 differs in that the arrow points to "Cyan."
FIG. 11 is a diagram showing an example of a gradation correction pattern. For example, as shown in the figure, a gradation correction pattern is prepared for each color, such as "K", "C", "M", "Y", "S" and "T". As shown in the figure, the gradation correction pattern is generated so as to have 21 gradations, such as "00" to "20". This example is an example in which "0%" to "100%" are converted into one gradation in increments of "5%", such as "0%, "5%, "10%, ...", "95%, "100%". Therefore, when changing uniformly for each gradation, if the data changes in the range of 8 bits, that is, "0" to "255", the gradation correction pattern is generated so that the data value changes by "255÷100" per gradation. Note that the increments and the number of bits may be different values depending on the settings, etc.
When such a gradation correction pattern is imaged and the imaged gradation correction pattern is measured with a spectrophotometer or the like, the image processing device can obtain characteristic values and the like that are the color measurement results. Specifically, for CMYK colors, the characteristic values are density, etc. On the other hand, for special colors, the characteristic values may differ depending on the color. For example, for fluorescent pink, the characteristic value is a* in L*a*b*. For fluorescent yellow, the characteristic value is b* in L*a*b*. Furthermore, for white, the characteristic value is L* in L*a*b*.
Therefore, obtaining characteristic values may involve processing such as converting the measured values.
These values fluctuate significantly as the area gradation ratio increases, and are indices that maintain a wide dynamic range. This allows for highly accurate gradation correction.

On the other hand, if the image processing device determines that all colors have not been completed (NO in step S3), it proceeds to step S2.

Figure 13 is a diagram showing an example of the state before correction and the ideal state. Note that the example shown is an example in which the first color is specified as "CMYK+Special". Therefore, although the following example shows an example in which five colors are used, the color to be displayed may be selected based on the specified color. Therefore, in this example, in order to display a screen as shown in the figure, the gradation correction pattern for each color is image-formed in advance and measured as the state before correction. Furthermore, in this example, the reference value for each color is obtained as the ideal state.
In the figure, "xx_meas" (where "xx" can be "C", "M", "Y", "K" or "S"; the same applies below) indicates the state before correction, i.e., the current state, and indicates the result of actually forming an image of the gradation correction pattern and measuring it.
On the other hand, "xx_tar" indicates the ideal state, i.e., the state that can be expected after correction. The vertical axis also indicates the density index for "CMYK". Furthermore, the vertical axis also indicates the "a*" value for "S".
Therefore, when a graph or other screen like the one shown in the figure is displayed, the user can understand the gradation characteristics before correction and the expected values, and can thus know abnormalities, colors that require correction, or the effects that can be expected from correction.
In this way, a screen such as the one shown in the figure may be displayed to assist in determining which color to specify as the target for correction.

The following will explain an example in which the color to be corrected is white, which is an example of a special color. First, the following data is generated in advance by calculation or the like in the image processing device.
15 is a diagram showing an example of the relationship between the white toner area ratio and the expected value of the density, and an example of the relationship between the white toner area ratio and the density after correction (corrected measurement value). The results shown in the figure show, for example, the results of calculations using the following formulas (1) and (2).
(Correction amount)=(Measured value of W00)−(Expected value of W00) (1)
The "measured value of W00" in the above formula (1) is the result of using a "patch with a white toner area ratio of 0%" (corresponding to "S00" in FIG. 11) in white, and measuring an image formed using the "W00" patch with a scanner or the like. Meanwhile, the "expected value of W00" is the density of white in an ideal state. Therefore, the difference between the "measured value of W00" and the "expected value of W00" calculated as shown in the above formula (1) is the value that has changed from the ideal state, and is the value that should be returned by correction, i.e., the correction amount.
(Corrected measured value)=(Measured value of Wi)−(Correction amount) (2)
The "correction amount" in the above formula (2) is the "correction amount" calculated by the above formula (1). Furthermore, "i" in the above formula (2) indicates other areas, and "Wi" becomes "W01", etc. Therefore, the corrected measurement value is a value obtained by subtracting the correction amount from the "measurement value of Wi" which is the result of measurement by a scanner or the like. The relationship between the white toner area ratio, expected value, measurement value, and corrected measurement value is as shown in the following (Table 1).
16 shows an example of generating correction parameters. In the figure, the dotted line connecting the white circles is a graph showing the relationship between the area ratio of the white toner and the correction measurement value. Furthermore, in the figure, the solid line connecting the black circles is a graph showing the relationship between the area ratio of the white toner and the expected value of density.
If the corrected measurement value is almost the same as the expected value, the correction unit does not need to make correction, i.e., the state is maintained. Therefore, the correction parameters, etc. are set, for example, so that no correction is performed.
On the other hand, in the illustrated example (more specifically, when the white toner area ratio is about 94%. The following explanation will be given using the example of a white toner area ratio of 94% as indicated by the arrow in the figure), the expected density value is "0.31". In contrast, the corrected measured value is "0.181". This is an example of a case where the corrected measured value and the expected value do not match. For example, this is the case that is subject to correction.
This phenomenon occurs, for example, due to changes over time in the parts and assembly parts of the image forming device, which cause the density to fluctuate. In the example shown in the figure, the area ratio of white toner is smaller than the ideal value to achieve the expected density.
The
In other words, if 89.1% of white toner is assigned to an image that requires 94% area ratio data for white toner, the density fluctuations caused by changes over time can be corrected, i.e., the gradation characteristics can be made to achieve the reference value.
The area ratio can be converted to 8-bit gradation value data by multiplying it by "255/100". Specifically, the gradation value corresponding to "89.1%" is "227", and the gradation value corresponding to "94%" is "240".
For example, when the above calculation is performed, a conversion table is generated that corresponds to 16 discrete gradation values in accordance with the density of the reference value. The calculation unit interpolates between each of the 16 points indicated by the conversion table using spline interpolation processing or the like. For example, by using such interpolation, correction parameters are generated in increments of one gradation in the gradation values "0" to "255".
In this way, for example, correction is performed.
In this way, correction is performed on the color specified as the correction target color. If all colors are always corrected, the time spent performing correction processing etc. will often result in so-called downtime, during which image formation and other processing cannot be performed. Therefore, it is desirable to keep the time spent performing correction processing etc. short. In particular, even if correction is performed on all colors, there may be cases where some colors fail. For example, if the image to be formed does not contain any parts that use special colors, correcting the special colors etc. may unnecessarily extend downtime. There are also other cases, such as forming an image like the one below.
Figure 17 shows an example of image formation using white. In other words, the illustrated example shows a case where the colors CMYK are not required when forming an image such as that shown on black paper. In such a case, correction of CMYK, etc. is not required.
In this way, depending on the image to be formed, there are cases where only certain colors are used. Therefore, by specifying the color to be used as the color to be corrected and performing correction on the color to be corrected, it is possible to reduce the number of objects to be corrected. Therefore, by reducing the number of objects to be corrected, it is possible to shorten the correction processing time. Therefore, downtime, etc. can be shortened.

In the second embodiment, a new correction process is executed in addition to the process described in the first embodiment. The following description will focus on the differences and omit redundant description.

In step S59, the display unit displays the gradation characteristics and the like acquired based on the colorimetric result obtained by measuring the color of the verification pattern image.
(Example of determining whether correction is complete or not)
In step S510, the
Next, if the correction is complete (YES in step S510), the entire process ends. On the other hand, if the correction is not complete (NO in step S510), proceed to step S511.
(Example of identifying colors that have not been corrected)
In step S511, the
There are cases where the correction does not work well. For example, even if the gradation is corrected, an image with a clearly strong magenta color may be created. In other words, this is when the correction for the magenta color is not done well.
Causes of poor correction include, for example, in-plane unevenness in a printer or other device, which means that the same characteristic values cannot be obtained even when the same pattern is imaged, or an error has occurred in a sensor.
In this way, after performing the correction, it is judged whether the correction was successful or not using a verification pattern or the like. It is then desirable to identify the colors for which the correction was not successful and limit the colors for which the correction was not successful to those colors that are the subject of correction. In this way, the colors for which the correction was successful are maintained, and correction is limited to those for which the correction was not successful, thereby shortening the correction processing time.
Third Embodiment
The third embodiment is different from the first embodiment in that, for example, the following tone correction pattern is used.
Figure 19 is a diagram showing an example of a gradation correction pattern in the third embodiment. As shown in the figure, the third embodiment differs from the gradation correction pattern in the first embodiment in that the three colors "K", "M" and "Y" are formed, and no other colors are formed. In other words, the example shown is an example in which the three colors "K", "M" and "Y" are specified as the colors to be corrected. Therefore, corrections, etc. are performed, for example, as follows.
Figure 20 is a flowchart showing an example of correction processing in the third embodiment. Compared to the second embodiment, the third embodiment differs in steps S531 and S532. The following mainly describes the differences.
(Example of generating image data showing a gradation correction pattern of a correction target color)
In step S531, the drawing
(Example of image formation of gradation correction pattern of correction target color)
In step S532, the
In this way, the generation of image data showing the gradation correction pattern and image formation can be limited to the color to be corrected. With this configuration, toner consumption can also be reduced.
Fourth Embodiment
The fourth embodiment differs from the other embodiments in that there are multiple special colors. For example, the image processing device uses two colors from among white, clear, metallic, and fluorescent yellow or fluorescent pink, which are examples of fluorescent colors, in addition to the CMYK colors. Hereinafter, the first special color may be indicated as "S" and the second special color may be indicated as "T".
When using two special colors in this way, image data showing a gradation correction pattern such as that shown in Figure 11 is used, for example.
Below, an example will be described in which there are two special colors: fluorescent yellow and fluorescent pink. When using such colors, for example, fluorescent pink is used in place of magenta in CMYK. Furthermore, in such a case, fluorescent yellow is used in place of yellow in CMYK. Therefore, even if there are a total of six colors including CMYK and special colors, in many cases, image formation is performed using four of the six colors. Therefore, in this example, it is desirable to select the colors to be corrected, for example, as follows:
Figure 21 is an example of the specification of the color to be corrected in the fourth embodiment. That is, the illustrated example is an example in which "Neon Pink" and "Neon Yellow" are specified as the colors to be corrected in addition to "C" and "K" as the first color. Based on such specification, it is desirable to generate image data and image formation showing the gradation correction pattern, for example, as follows.
Figure 22 is a diagram showing an example of a gradation correction pattern in the fourth embodiment. In this way, when a special color includes a fluorescent color, it is desirable to specify as the correction target color a combination of the special color and CMYK that is used for image formation, taking into consideration color substitution, as shown in the figure. When the correction target color is specified in this way, it matches the color used by the correction target. Therefore, unnecessary corrections, etc. can be reduced.
Fifth Embodiment
In the fifth embodiment, a combination of a recording medium color (hereinafter referred to as "recording medium color") and a special color is considered. In the following, an example will be described in which the recording medium color is black and the special color includes white. For example, such a combination of black and white is used when forming an image such as that shown in FIG. 17.
Also, even if CMYK colors are used on a black recording medium, there is often little color development due to the low reflection from the recording medium. Therefore, the gradation characteristics will result in something like the following, for example.
Figure 23 is a diagram showing an example of gradation characteristics in the fifth embodiment. As shown in the figure, the density and other characteristics of "S", that is, other than white, are unlikely to change. Therefore, when the recording medium color is black, the colors CMYK are often not used.
In addition, if the recording medium color is black, using the color "K" often makes it difficult to see the boundaries between the patches. Therefore, when making measurements, it is advisable to carefully check the position of each patch.
As mentioned above, when the recording medium color is black, it is desirable to set the image formation to be done in white, i.e., a single special color. For example, such a setting can be realized by the following overall processing, etc.
Figure 24 is a flowchart showing the overall processing in the fifth embodiment. Compared to the first embodiment, the fifth embodiment differs in that it includes steps S1001 to S1003. The following explanation will focus on the differences.
(Example of acquiring color material type)
In step S1001, the color material
(Example of obtaining recording medium type)
In step S1002, the recording medium type acquisition unit acquires the type of the recording medium. That is, the recording medium type acquisition unit acquires information that identifies the type of the recording medium. For example, the type of the recording medium is acquired by a GUI or the like as shown below.
Figure 25 is a diagram showing an example of a GUI for acquiring the recording medium type. As shown in the figure, options such as plain paper, gloss coated paper, black paper, colored paper, metallic paper, and transparent sheet are displayed on the GUI for selection. As shown in the figure, when black paper is selected, it is understood that the recording medium type is black paper, and the image processing device understands that the recording medium color is black.
(Example of specifying the correction target color based on the type of color material and the type of recording medium)
In step S1003, the designation unit designates the color to be corrected based on the type of color material and the type of recording medium. For example, it is preferable that the GUI for designating the color to be corrected is displayed as follows.
Figure 26 is an example of specifying the color to be corrected in the fifth embodiment. As shown, "Special only" is displayed as a choice for the color to be corrected, that is, a choice for specifying the special color of white as the color to be corrected. That is, the example shown is an example in which "CMYK" and the like are not displayed as choices, as in Figure 8. In this way, it is desirable to select choices that are effective combinations of recording medium color and toner color, and not display other choices. With such a display, a special color, that is, white, is selected as the color to be corrected, and the choice of CMYK can be made unselectable. In this way, it is desirable for the GUI to make choices that would result in unnecessary correction unselectable.
The display of an option that makes it unselectable is not limited to "not display." For example, the GUI may make the option unselectable by graying it out, or by not responding as an option even if you try to select it.
As described above, when the recording medium color is black, it is not very effective to directly use the CMYK colors. Therefore, as in the above example, when there is data that directly uses the CMYK colors for a black recording medium, an error may be generated. In addition, when there is a setting to image-form printing condition information such as page numbers and profile settings, or a setting to image-form a stamp indicating confidentiality, CMYK may be subject to correction. In such cases, it is preferable not to perform correction, i.e., for colors for which correction has been omitted, it is preferable to form images using the initial threshold value. In this way, the correction processing time may be shortened.
On the other hand, for example, even if the recording medium is black, the image processing device may apply white toner between the recording medium and the toner to form a layer (hereinafter referred to as a "white layer"). For example, the setting is performed using a GUI such as the one shown below.
Figure 27 is a diagram showing an example of a GUI for setting up the formation of a white layer. For example, when a GUI such as that shown in the figure, a so-called check box, is displayed, the user can set up the formation of a white layer by checking the box "ON." Then, when the setting is made to form a white layer as shown in the figure, the gradation correction pattern will be, for example, as follows:
Figure 28 is a diagram showing an example of a gradation correction pattern that uses a white layer. In the example shown, "K", "C", "M" and "Y" are imaged on a white layer, i.e., an application of white toner. On the other hand, "S", i.e., white toner, is applied directly to the recording medium. In this way, when a white layer is used, even if the recording medium color is black, the white toner is often mixed with the CMYK toner due to the white layer, so the brightness tends to be high. Therefore, for example, the following gradation characteristics can be obtained.
Figure 29 shows an example of gradation characteristics when a white layer is used. Therefore, if the setting uses a white layer in this way, even if the recording medium color is black, colors such as CMYK are also effective.
When using the settings shown in FIG. 27, i.e., a white layer, the GUI shown in FIG. 26 may also allow the selection of "CMYK+Special" and "CMYK", as in FIG. 8, etc.
Sixth Embodiment
The sixth embodiment differs from the other embodiments in that the recording medium color is white, and the special color includes white. The following description will focus on the differences.
First, if the recording medium color is white and the special color includes white, the following gradation characteristics are obtained, for example.
Figure 30 shows an example of gradation characteristics when a white recording medium is used. As shown in the figure, when the recording medium color is white, "S", i.e., the characteristic value of white, is difficult to change in density, etc. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain gradation with white. Therefore, when using a white recording medium, white toner is not effective.
In addition, if the recording medium color is white, using the color "S" often makes it difficult to see between the patches, i.e., the boundaries. Therefore, when taking measurements, it is advisable to carefully check the position of each patch.
Figure 31 is a diagram showing an example of a case where the recording medium color is determined to be white. For example, a case where a GUI similar to that of Figure 24 is used is taken as an example. In this example, when "plain paper" or "gloss coated paper" is selected on the GUI, the recording medium color is determined to be white. When the recording medium color is white, it is desirable that the option for the correction target color be "CMYK" and that the option using the color "S" is unselectable. In this way, even when the recording medium color is white, it is desirable to select an option that is an effective combination of the recording medium color and the toner color and not display other options. With such a display, CMYK is selected as the correction target color and the option for white can be made unselectable. In this way, it is desirable for the GUI to make options that will result in unnecessary correction unselectable.
The display of an option that makes it unselectable is not limited to "not display." For example, the GUI may make the option unselectable by graying it out, or by not responding as an option even if you try to select it.
In addition, when the recording medium color is black and the special color includes black, it is preferable that the GUI display the CMYK options and display the options using the special color as unselectable.
Seventh Embodiment
The seventh embodiment differs from the other embodiments in that the recording medium color is white and the special color includes a fluorescent color. The following description will focus on the differences.
If the recording medium color is white, the fluorescent color will have a gradation as shown in FIG. 13, for example. Therefore, if the recording medium type is white paper, the color to be corrected may be "CMYK", "CMYK+Special", or "Special only".
However, for example, fluorescent pink may be used in place of the letter "M". In such cases, for example, the design may make the "M" stand out. Similarly, fluorescent yellow may be used in place of the letter "Y". In such cases, for example, the design may make the "Y" stand out.
In this way, when a special color includes a fluorescent color, it is unlikely that the special color will be used alone. Therefore, when specifying the color to be corrected, that is, in a GUI like that of Figure 8, it is desirable for the GUI to have two options, "CMYK" and "CMYK+Special." With such a display, either CMYK or a combination of CMYK and a special color is selected as the color to be corrected, and the option of only the special color can be made unselectable. In this way, it is desirable for the GUI to make options that would result in unnecessary corrections unselectable.
Eighth Embodiment
The color material for forming an image of a special color may further include, for example, a clear toner, a UV toner, or a metal toner. It is often difficult to measure the characteristic values of such a special color using a sensor such as a densitometer or a colorimeter. Or, there are cases where correction is not required for such a special color.
Therefore, in settings that use such special colors, when specifying the color to be corrected, i.e., in a GUI like that of Figure 8, it is desirable for the GUI to have "CMYK" as an option. In other words, in such cases, it is desirable for the GUI to make it impossible to select special colors as targets for correction. In this way, in settings that use colors that do not require correction, it is desirable for the GUI to make options that would result in unnecessary corrections impossible to select.
Depending on the type of recording medium, corrections may be difficult. For example, when the recording medium type is metallic paper, diffuse reflections are likely to occur due to the recording medium. For this reason, it is often difficult to measure characteristic values using sensors such as densitometers or colorimeters. Therefore, in such cases, in order to omit corrections, it is desirable to have a GUI like that shown in FIG. 8 that does not allow corrections to be performed or that does not allow all colors to be selected.
However, even if the recording medium type is metallic paper, correction can often be made if, for example, a white layer is used, as in Figure 27.
Therefore, for example, as in the fifth embodiment, even if the recording medium type is metallic paper, it is desirable to have a GUI that allows the selection of "CMYK" etc., such as the settings shown in FIG. 27, that is, when using a white layer.
For example, when the recording medium type is a transparent sheet (for example, when the "transparent paper" option is selected in the GUI shown in FIG. 25), the recording medium color is transparent, so the measurement results of characteristic values, etc. are likely to differ depending on what is placed under the recording medium. For this reason, for example, if a white recording medium is placed under the recording medium, corrections and measurements can be made similar to when the recording medium color is set to white. Therefore, in such a case, it is desirable to specify the same settings as when the recording medium color is white, and it is desirable, for example, to have a GUI like that of FIG. 8 that allows "CMYK" as an option.
In this way, it is desirable for the GUI to make options that result in unnecessary corrections unselectable, or to display options that result in valid corrections.
Ninth embodiment
The ninth embodiment differs from the other embodiments in the replacement of special colors. The following mainly describes the differences. First, assume that the special colors are initially set to include fluorescent pink. Therefore, the combination of CMYK and fluorescent pink is corrected, for example, as in the first embodiment. After the correction, an image is formed using the special colors of CMYK and fluorescent pink. If image formation using only CMYK, only fluorescent pink, or both CMYK and fluorescent pink is to be performed after this, this color combination is maintained.
On the other hand, if the next image formation is an image formation using fluorescent yellow, the special colors are swapped. When such a swap is performed, the color becomes a combination of CMYK and the special color fluorescent yellow. This swap is detected by the detection unit. After such a swap is performed, CMYK has already been corrected, so no correction is necessary. In contrast, no correction has been performed on fluorescent yellow, and correction has been performed on fluorescent pink, so it is desirable to reset the correction for the special colors and perform a reset to return them to their initial state.
However, the results of the correction to fluorescent pink may be stored rather than discarded. For example, after image formation using fluorescent yellow is complete, the special color may be changed back to fluorescent pink. In such cases where the special color is changed back to fluorescent pink, it is often preferable to use the correction results made before the memory unit stored them, rather than resetting the correction results.
In this way, when the image processing device detects a special color swap, it maintains the CMYK correction results based on the detection result, and sets the correction for the special color to be reset or to use the correction results stored in the memory unit. Furthermore, since there is a high possibility that the CMYK correction has been properly performed, it is desirable to maintain the CMYK correction.
In this way, by resetting the correction for special colors based on the detection results, or by using previous correction results stored in the memory unit, it is possible to prevent abnormal image formation and reduce unnecessary corrections.
<まとめ>
<Summary>
Specifically, it is desirable that the processes of designating, displaying, and correcting the color to be corrected be performed, for example, as shown in the following (Table 2).
Next, as shown in "No. 2", when "plain paper" is selected as the "recording medium type", the "options displayed by the GUI" are "CMYK" and "CMYK+Special". Let us take an example where "CMYK" is specified as the "color to be corrected" using such a GUI. With such a specification, correction is made to CMYK. Therefore, the "correction result" of the "process color" is applied with the correction result from the correction made in "No. 2", and becomes "corrected state P_A". On the other hand, since the "special color" is not specified as the "color to be corrected", the state of "No. 1" is maintained and it is the "initial state".
On the other hand, if "CMYK+Special" is specified as the "color to be corrected," as in "No. 3," corrections are made to both CMYK and the special color. Therefore, the "correction result" of the "process color" is updated to the correction result made in "No. 2," and becomes "corrected state P_B." On the other hand, the correction result of the "special color" becomes "corrected state S_A."
Next, after "No. 3", as shown in "No. 4", the special color is switched from "fluorescent pink" to "fluorescent yellow". When such a switch is detected, the correction for the special color is reset, and the correction result becomes the "initial state". On the other hand, the correction result for the "process color" is maintained, and it is in "correction state P_B".
After "No. 4", for example, as shown in "No. 5", the "recording medium type" is set to "gloss coated paper". Then, "CMYK+Special" is specified as the "color to be corrected". In this way, correction is performed on both CMYK and the special color. Therefore, the "correction result" of the "process color" is updated to "correction state P_C". Similarly, the "correction result" of the "special color" becomes "correction state S_B".
Furthermore, after "No. 5", if "CMYK" is specified as the "color to be corrected", the "correction result" of the "process color" is updated to "correction state P_D". On the other hand, the "correction result" of the "special color" is not corrected because a special color is not specified as the color to be corrected, and the correction result is maintained.
Next, after "No. 6", as shown in "No. 7", the special color is switched from "fluorescent yellow" to "clear". When such a switch is detected, the correction for the special color is reset, and the correction result becomes the "initial state". On the other hand, the correction result for the "process color" is maintained, and it is in the "correction state P_D".
As shown in "No. 8" after "No. 7", the special color "clear" is an example of a color that does not require correction. Therefore, a GUI in which "CMYK" is an option for the "color to be corrected" is desirable. Then, when correction is made to "CMYK", the "correction result" of the "process color" is updated to "corrected state P_E". Meanwhile, the "correction result" of the "special color" is maintained in the "initial state".
Next, after "No. 8", as shown in "No. 9", the special color is switched from "clear" to "white". When such a switch is detected, the correction for the special color is reset, and the correction result becomes the "initial state". On the other hand, the correction result for the "process color" is maintained, and it is in "correction state P_E".
Furthermore, after "No. 9", as shown in "No. 10", the "recording medium type" is set to "black paper". In this way, the recording medium color is determined to be black and the special color is determined to be white. Therefore, the "color to be corrected" can be selected as the option "Special only", and the GUI is displayed so that other options cannot be selected. Then, because correction is performed on the special color, the "correction result" of the "special color" becomes "correction state S_C". On the other hand, the "correction result" of the "process color" becomes, for example, the "initial state".
Next, as shown in "No. 11", the "recording medium type" is set to "plain paper". In other words, the recording medium color is white, and the special color is set to "white". In such a case, it is desirable for the GUI to allow "CMYK" to be selected as the "color to be corrected". Then, when correction is made to "CMYK", the "correction result" of the "process color" is updated to "correction state P_F". Meanwhile, the "correction result" of the "special color" is reset to the "initial state".
Next, after "No. 11", the special color is switched from "white" to "fluorescent yellow" as shown in "No. 12". When such a switch is detected, the correction for the special color becomes "correction state S_B", which is the correction result stored in "No. 5". On the other hand, the correction result for "process color" is maintained, and it is "correction state P_F".
In the example of "No. 12", the correction result "correction state S_B" stored in the memory unit was used, but in cases where the correction result is from a long time ago, such as when more than half a day has passed, the correction may be performed again.
Next, after "No. 12", as shown in "No. 13", the "recording medium type" is set to "gloss coated paper". In this case, the "options displayed by the GUI" are "CMYK" and "CMYK+Special". If "CMYK+Special" is selected, both CMYK and the special color are corrected. Therefore, the "correction result" of the "process color" is updated to "correction state P_G". Similarly, the "correction result" of the "special color" is updated to "correction state S_D".
In this way, by specifying the correction and the color to be corrected based on the combination of the recording medium and the special color, unnecessary corrections are reduced and the correction processing time can be shortened.
