Description
The technology disclosed in this specification relates to fuel cell modules.
Solid oxide fuel cells (hereinafter referred to as "SOFCs") are known as one type of fuel cell that generates electricity using an electrochemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. SOFCs are used, for example, in the form of a fuel cell module that includes a fuel cell stack and a combustor.
A fuel cell stack is a structure that includes multiple power generation units. Each power generation unit has a fuel cell unit (hereinafter simply referred to as a "unit cell") that includes an electrolyte layer and an air electrode and a fuel electrode that face each other with the electrolyte layer in between. The fuel cell stack also includes a fuel electrode side gas supply manifold that supplies gas (fuel gas) to the fuel chamber facing the fuel electrode in each power generation unit, a fuel electrode side gas exhaust manifold that exhausts gas (fuel off-gas) from the fuel chamber in each power generation unit, an air electrode side gas supply manifold that supplies gas (oxidant gas) to the air chamber facing the air electrode in each power generation unit, and an air electrode side gas exhaust manifold that exhausts gas (oxidant off-gas) from the air chamber in each power generation unit.
The combustor is connected to the fuel electrode side gas exhaust manifold of the fuel cell stack via the fuel electrode side gas exhaust flow path, and is connected to the air electrode side gas exhaust manifold of the fuel cell stack via the air electrode side gas exhaust flow path. The gases (fuel off-gas and oxidant off-gas) exhausted from the fuel cell stack via each manifold are introduced into the combustor, mixed in the combustor, and combusted (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
During operation of the fuel cell module, for example, the flow rate of gas supplied to the air electrode side gas supply manifold and the flow rate of gas supplied to the fuel electrode side gas supply manifold are increased or decreased in order to control the temperature inside the fuel cell stack. If such an increase or decrease in gas flow rate causes an increase in the difference between the pressure of the air electrode side gas flow path and the pressure of the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each power generation unit of the fuel cell stack, the members constituting the air electrode side gas flow path or the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each power generation unit may deform, increasing the pressure loss in the air electrode side gas flow path or the fuel electrode side gas flow path, deteriorating gas distribution, and possibly causing a decrease in performance, deterioration, or damage to the single cell. Note that this issue is not limited to SOFCs, but is also a common issue in fuel cell modules of other types of fuel cells.
This specification discloses a technology that can solve the above-mentioned problems.
The technology disclosed in this specification can be realized, for example, in the following forms:
(1) The fuel cell module disclosed in this specification includes a fuel cell stack. The fuel cell stack includes a plurality of power generation units each having a single cell including an electrolyte layer and an air electrode and a fuel electrode facing each other with the electrolyte layer in between. The fuel cell stack includes a fuel electrode side gas supply manifold that supplies gas to a fuel chamber facing the fuel electrode in each of the power generation units, a fuel electrode side gas exhaust manifold that exhausts gas from the fuel chamber in each of the power generation units, an air electrode side gas supply manifold that supplies gas to an air chamber facing the air electrode in each of the power generation units, and an air electrode side gas exhaust manifold that exhausts gas from the air chamber in each of the power generation units. The fuel cell module also includes a combustor that combusts gas, a fuel electrode side gas exhaust flow path that connects the fuel electrode side gas exhaust manifold of the fuel cell stack to the combustor, and an air electrode side gas exhaust flow path that connects the air electrode side gas exhaust manifold of the fuel cell stack to the combustor. A specific gas discharge flow path, which is at least one of the fuel electrode side gas discharge flow path and the air electrode side gas discharge flow path, is provided with a cooling mechanism that cools the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path, and a pressure control mechanism that is disposed downstream of the cooling mechanism and adjusts the pressure of the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path.
In this way, in the fuel cell module, a cooling mechanism for cooling the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path, which is at least one of the fuel electrode side gas discharge flow path and the air electrode side gas discharge flow path, is provided in the specific gas discharge flow path, and therefore a general-purpose pressure control mechanism that does not have special heat resistance can be provided downstream of the cooling mechanism in the specific gas discharge flow path as a pressure control mechanism for adjusting the pressure of the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path. In addition, in the fuel cell module, by adjusting the pressure of the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path by the pressure control mechanism, it is possible to prevent the difference between the pressure of the air electrode side gas flow path and the pressure of the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each power generation unit from becoming excessive. Therefore, according to the fuel cell module, it is possible to prevent the members constituting the air electrode side gas flow path or the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each power generation unit from deforming due to the pressure difference between the air electrode side gas flow path and the fuel electrode side gas flow path, which increases the pressure loss of the air electrode side gas flow path or the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each power generation unit, thereby preventing the deterioration of gas distribution, and thus the occurrence of performance degradation, deterioration, and damage of the single cell due to the deterioration of gas distribution.
(2) The above fuel cell module may further include a pressure measuring unit that measures the pressure of at least one of a fuel electrode side gas supply flow path connected to the fuel electrode side gas supply manifold of the fuel cell stack, an air electrode side gas supply flow path connected to the air electrode side gas supply manifold of the fuel cell stack, an air electrode side gas flow path including at least the air electrode side gas supply flow path, the air electrode side gas supply manifold, the air chamber of each of the power generation units, the air electrode side gas exhaust manifold, and the air electrode side gas exhaust flow path, and a fuel electrode side gas flow path including at least the fuel electrode side gas supply flow path, the fuel electrode side gas supply manifold, the fuel chamber of each of the power generation units, the fuel electrode side gas exhaust manifold, and the fuel electrode side gas exhaust flow path, and a control unit that controls the pressure control mechanism based on the pressure measurement results by the pressure measuring unit. With this fuel cell module, the pressure control mechanism can be used to effectively prevent the difference between the pressure in the air electrode gas flow passage and the pressure in the fuel electrode gas flow passage in each power generation unit from becoming excessive, effectively preventing performance degradation, deterioration, and damage to single cells due to poor gas distribution.
(3) In the above fuel cell module, the cooling mechanism and the pressure control mechanism may be provided at least in the fuel electrode side gas exhaust flow path, and the fuel cell module may further include a desulfurizer that desulfurizes the raw fuel gas, and a branch flow path that connects the desulfurizer to a position downstream of the cooling mechanism in the fuel electrode side gas exhaust flow path. According to this fuel cell module, the gas exhausted from the fuel cell stack can be used to desulfurize the raw fuel gas, improving system efficiency.
(4) In the above fuel cell module, the cooling mechanism may include a heat exchanger that exchanges heat between at least one of the gas to be supplied to the air electrode side gas supply manifold and the gas to be supplied to the fuel electrode side gas supply manifold and the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path. In this fuel cell module, in the heat exchanger, at least one of the gas to be supplied to the air electrode side gas supply manifold and the gas to be supplied to the fuel electrode side gas supply manifold removes heat from the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path, thereby cooling the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path. Therefore, according to this fuel cell module, it is possible to suppress a decrease in the thermal efficiency of the fuel cell module as a whole that is caused by providing a cooling mechanism while realizing cooling of the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path by the cooling mechanism.
(5) The above fuel cell module may further include an evaporator that evaporates water, and a reformer that uses the water evaporated in the evaporator to reform the raw fuel gas, and the cooling mechanism may include a heat exchanger that exchanges heat between the water supplied to the evaporator and the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path. In this fuel cell module, the water supplied to the evaporator in the heat exchanger removes heat from the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path, thereby cooling the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path. Therefore, according to this fuel cell module, it is possible to suppress a decrease in the thermal efficiency of the fuel cell module as a whole that is caused by providing a cooling mechanism, while realizing cooling of the gas in the specific gas discharge flow path by the cooling mechanism.

In this fuel cell module, a configuration is adopted in which deterioration of gas distribution due to deformation of the first separator joined to the single cell is likely to occur, but a pressure control mechanism can be used to prevent the difference between the pressure of the air electrode side gas flow path and the pressure of the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each generating unit from becoming excessive, thereby suppressing deformation of the first separator caused by the pressure difference and suppressing performance degradation, deterioration, and damage of the single cell due to deterioration of gas distribution.

In this fuel cell module, a configuration is adopted in which deterioration of gas distribution due to deformation of the second separator joined to the interconnector is likely to occur, but a pressure control mechanism can be used to prevent the difference between the pressure of the air electrode side gas flow path and the pressure of the fuel electrode side gas flow path in each generating unit from becoming excessive, so that deformation of the second separator due to the pressure difference can be suppressed, and the occurrence of performance degradation, deterioration, and damage of the single cell due to deterioration of gas distribution can be suppressed.

The
The

A-6. Advantages of the first embodiment:
As described above, the
In this way, in the
In addition, the
The
In addition, in the
In the
The
