Description
The present invention relates to a reception status display method for displaying a reception status when receiving, demodulating, and decoding a digitally modulated signal, and a receiving apparatus that executes the reception status display method.
In digital communications, various encoding processes are performed so that digital signals are transmitted without errors regardless of the reception conditions. This encoding process allows error correction processing to be performed and the original digital signal to be accurately decoded even if some bits of the digital signal cannot be accurately recognized due to poor reception conditions. However, there are cases where the reception conditions deteriorate to the extent that decoding using such error correction processing is not possible. Also, even if the original digital signal is accurately decoded using error correction processing, there are cases where the current reception conditions are good and only a small number of bits can be accurately recognized through error correction processing, and cases where the current reception conditions are not good and many bits can only be accurately recognized through error correction processing.
The bit error rate (BER) of the digital signal transmitted in this manner is expressed as a function of the C/N ratio (carrier/noise ratio: unit dB) as shown in FIG. 4. As described in
Figure 4 shows the C/N ratio dependency of the BER after convolutional coding is used to code the digital signal and Viterbi decoding is performed as the error correction inner decoding, as described in
FIG. 5 is an example of an indicator display that visually displays such reception status. Here, "POOR" means that the reception condition is poor on this side (the left side in the figure), and "GOOD" means that the reception condition is good on this side (the right side in the figure). Displays such as "-3" and "-4" indicate the BER index; for example, "-3" indicates a BER of 1 x 10 -3 , and "-4" indicates a BER of 1 x 10 -4. correspond to a certain condition.
In FIG. 5, (a) the BER is 1×10 −2 or more, (b) the BER is between 1×10 −4 and 1×10 −3 , and the BER is 1×10 −3. Display (c) when the BER is between 6 and 1×10 −5 and display (d) when the BER is less than 1×10 −7 are shown, respectively. Good reception is shown according to the order. Since the above-mentioned allowable upper limit value is set here as 1×10 −4 , the display of “-4” and “-5” in FIG. 5 is particularly differentiated. By displaying such a display on the display unit of the receiving device, the user can intuitively recognize the current reception status.
In this case, the BER after inner error correction decoding is used as the BER in Figure 4, and the display shown in Figure 5 allows the user to properly recognize the current reception status.
Conventional FPUs use a system that uses an intermediate frequency (IF frequency) of 130 MHz and complies with ARIB STD-B33 and B11. In this system, as described in
In contrast, a system conforming to ARIB STD-B71 is used for FPUs for long-distance high-definition television broadcasting. In this case, an LDPC code is used as the error correction code, and the error correction inner decoding is performed using the more accurate LDPC decoding rather than the Viterbi decoding described above. Figure 6 shows a schematic diagram of the relationship between the BER and C/N ratio after LDPC decoding in this case, in comparison with the BER after Viterbi decoding described above.
When LDPC decoding is used, the change in BER with respect to the C/N ratio is steeper than when Viterbi decoding is used. In this case, in the case of Viterbi decoding, the switching of the indicator display between "POOR" and "GOOD" in FIG. In the case of decoding, the interval between "-3" and "-7" is about 1 dB, so a slight change in the reception condition caused the changes shown in FIGS. 5(a) to (d). That is, Because the rate of change of the BER with respect to the C/N ratio has become too large, when displaying an indicator, the situation will actually be instantaneous switching between FIG. 5(a) and FIG. 5(d). It became difficult for the user to properly recognize changes in the current reception status.
Therefore, even when LDPC error correction code processing is used, a technique is desired that allows users to appropriately recognize changes in reception conditions.
The present invention was made in view of the above situation, and an object of the present invention is to solve the above problems.
The reception status display method of the present invention is a reception status display method for displaying the reception status of a receiving device in a transmission system that transmits a digital signal modulated by LDPC error correction code processing, and includes a virtual bit error rate determination step of setting a virtual bit error rate that has a smaller rate of decrease when a signal quality level is improved than the bit error rate after LDPC error correction for the digital signal demodulated from a received signal, actually measuring the bit error rate after the LDPC error correction or the signal quality level, and determining the virtual bit error rate corresponding to the actually measured bit error rate or the actually measured signal quality level, and a display step of displaying the reception status based on the determined virtual bit error rate.
At this time, the LDPC error correction may be performed on the digital signal as inner decoding, and the bit error rate used to set the virtual bit error rate may be calculated by comparing the digital signal before and after outer decoding.
In this case, the signal quality level used to set the virtual bit error rate is the C/N ratio (carrier-to-noise ratio) of the received signal, and the C/N ratio may be calculated from the MER (modulation error ratio) when demodulating the digital signal from the received signal.
At this time, the correspondence relationship between the C/N ratio and the virtual bit error rate may be stored.
In this case, the correspondence relationship between the C/N ratio and the virtual code error rate may be set as a characteristic in which the correspondence relationship between the reference code error rate, which is the code error rate after Viterbi decoding when the digital signal is subjected to convolutional coding processing, and the C/N ratio is offset with respect to the C/N ratio so that the C/N ratio corresponding to the upper limit value allowed for the code error rate after the LDPC error correction coincides with the C/N ratio corresponding to the upper limit value allowed for the reference code error rate.
In this case, a plurality of types of correspondence relationships between the C/N ratio and the virtual bit error rate may be stored according to the modulation method or the coding rate for the digital signal, and one of the types may be selected and used according to the modulation method or the coding rate.
The receiving device of the present invention is a receiving device that executes the reception status display method, and includes a signal quality level calculation unit that measures the signal quality level in the received signal, a BER calculation unit that measures the bit error rate after the LDPC error correction, a virtual BER calculation unit that sets the virtual bit error rate according to the signal quality level or the bit error rate, and a reception status display unit that displays the reception status based on the virtual bit error rate.
According to the present invention, even when LDPC error correction code processing is used, the user can properly recognize changes in reception conditions.
Next, a receiving device that is an embodiment of the present invention will be specifically described. In this receiving device, a reception status display method that is an embodiment of the present invention is implemented. This receiving device will be explained below.
この受信装置は、例えばFPU(Field Pickup Unit:テレビジョン放送用の無線中継伝送装置)における受信を行うための一部であり、ARIB STD-B71に準拠した動作を行う。
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the configuration of this
The
Here, in order to allow the
For this reason, a signal quality
In addition, a
Calculating the BER requires a corresponding amount of data and may take time. For example, if the reception state changes significantly over time, the BER may not be properly recognized using this method. In this case, if the correspondence between the BER and the C/N ratio as shown in FIG. It can also be recognized. This correspondence relationship can be stored in advance in the
Therefore, in this
For this reason, in this
Figure 2 is a diagram showing the configuration of a
Note that this receiving
In the reception status display method executed in the receiving
The virtual
Here, when error correction inner decoding (hereinafter referred to as inner decoding) is performed and then error correction outer decoding (hereinafter referred to as outer decoding) is performed as in the technique described in
On the other hand, as described in
The C/N ratio dependence of the virtual BER in FIG. 3 (characteristic B) is the C/N ratio dependence of the BER in the case where the BER becomes C1 (D) when such Viterbi decoding is used. The N ratio is set so as to match the C/N ratio (=CN01) in the case (E) where the BER after the LDPC processing is performed by the
Based on such characteristics, the virtual BER
When such a virtual BER is used instead of the BER in the display shown in Figure 5, the change in the virtual BER (change in communication state) becomes more gradual than the actual BER, making it easier for the user to see. In this case, as described above, the C/N ratio at the allowable upper limit (D, E) is unified between the actual BER (characteristic B) and the virtual BER (characteristic A). Also, for example, in Figure 3, when the C/N ratio is greater than D, E and the actual BER (characteristic B) is smaller than the allowable upper limit, the virtual BER (characteristic A) will be significantly greater than the actual BER.
If such a virtual BER is used for the display in Figure 5 instead of the actual BER, the BER may be at the upper limit of tolerance (the reception condition is at its breaking point), or the actual BER may be lower than the upper limit of tolerance. When the BER is large (the C/N ratio is smaller than D and E), it is properly recognized that the current reception condition is at the breaking point or worse, although the degree of the difference differs. be able to. On the other hand, if the actual BER is smaller than the allowable upper limit (C/N ratio is larger than D and E), the current reception condition is lower than the limit point, although the degree of difference from the limit point is different. It is possible to properly recognize that the device is in good condition. Therefore, although the difference from the limit point is different from the actual one, the tendency of the reception state can be properly recognized.
However, when the display shown in FIG. 5 is performed using the actual BER, a slight change in the reception condition causes a sudden change between FIGS. 5(a) to 5(d). It became difficult for the user to properly recognize changes in the current reception status. On the other hand, when displaying using virtual BER in this way, changes in the display due to changes in reception conditions are as gradual as when Viterbi decoding is performed, so the user This makes it easier for people to recognize this change.
In addition, in the above example, when setting the relationship between the virtual BER and the C/N ratio, the relationship between the BER and the C/N ratio after Viterbi decoding in the receiving
In the above example, data for conversion between the measured BER or the measured C/N ratio and the virtual BER is stored in advance in the
In the above example, a virtual BER was used instead of the BER in the digital signal after LDPC decoding, but if the rate of change in BER relative to changes in the signal quality level is similarly large, the reception status can be displayed using a virtual BER instead of the BER.
また、上記の例では、この受信装置がFPUの一部であるものとしたが、STL(Studio to Transmitter Link)やTTL(Transmitter to Transmitter Link)等、任意の無線システムにおいて上記の構成を用いることができる。 In the above example, the receiving device is part of the FPU, but the above configuration can be used in any wireless system, such as STL (Studio to Transmitter Link) or TTL (Transmitter to Transmitter Link).
