Description
The present disclosure relates to a fixing device and an image forming apparatus that thermally fix an image on a sheet.
In image forming devices such as printers, a nip is formed between a heated fixing member such as a fixing roller or fixing belt and a pressure member such as a pressure roller or pressure pad that is pressed against the fixing member. Some printers are equipped with a fixing device that thermally fixes an image such as a toner image on a sheet that is passed through the printer.
In such a fixing device, when the sheet passes through the nip, the sheet exits the nip while remaining stuck to the fixing member through the toner particles that melt on the sheet, and the sheet does not separate from the fixing member, resulting in a jam. (Paper jam) may occur.
In order to prevent such poor sheet separation,
It is desirable that the temperature of the heated fixing member be constant at a target temperature suitable for fixing. However, in reality, the more heat is taken away by the sheet passing through the nip, the more difficult it is for the heating to catch up, and the temperature may start to drop slightly below the target temperature, and then the heating may catch up and start rising slightly. Temperatures often change over a certain degree of temperature range.
When the temperature of the fixing member increases, the amount of heat per unit time supplied to the toner particles on the sheet increases by the increase, and the toner particles that are still in a molten state and highly sticky when they leave the nip are The number increases. The greater the number of toner particles with increased tackiness, the more likely the sheet remains stuck to the fixing member and the separability of the sheet decreases.
If you only want to improve the separation of the sheets, you can improve the separation of the sheets by constantly increasing the air volume of the blower regardless of the temperature of the fixing member, but if the temperature of the fixing member starts to drop, This lowers the temperature of the fixing member that forms the nip, which affects fixing performance.
In order to solve such problems, the present disclosure aims to provide a fixing device and an image forming apparatus that can improve both sheet fixing performance and separation performance compared to conventional methods.

The present invention is characterized in that the switching of the air volume to the second value is started after the leading edge of the succeeding sheet among the two sheets reaches the nip.
Here, the control means starts switching the air volume of the air blowing means after the trailing edge of the subsequent sheet passes through a nip, or the control means starts switching the air volume of the air blowing means after the rear end of the subsequent sheet passes through the nip, or M (an integer greater than or equal to 1) additional sheets are sent after the subsequent sheet. sheets are conveyed one after another, even if the switching of the air volume of the air blowing means is started after the subsequent sheet passes through the nip and a predetermined number of sheets equal to or less than M passes through the nip. good.

The control means is provided with a control means for switching to a smaller second value, and an acceptance means for accepting the designation of the gloss mode , and the control means is configured such that when the designation of the gloss mode is accepted, the control means receives the designation of the gloss mode more than when the designation of the gloss mode is not accepted. The present invention is characterized in that the magnitude of one or both of the first value and the second value is changed so that the change in air volume becomes smaller.
Yet another aspect of the present disclosure is a fixing device that presses a pressure member against a fixing member to form a nip and thermally fixes an image on a sheet passed through the nip, the fixing device or a detecting means for detecting the temperature of the pressure member; a blowing means for blowing air into the nip from the downstream side in the conveying direction of the sheet to separate the sheet from the fixing member; and a detecting means for controlling the blowing means. When the detected temperature becomes equal to or higher than a threshold value, the air volume of the air blowing means is switched to a first value, and when the detected temperature becomes lower than the threshold value, the air volume of the air blowing means is changed to a value lower than the first value. The present invention is characterized in that the air blower is caused to switch the air volume so that the rate of change in the air volume becomes small.
When the detected temperature becomes equal to or higher than a threshold value, the air volume of the air blowing means is switched to a first value, and when the detected temperature becomes lower than the threshold value, the air volume of the air blowing means is changed to a value lower than the first value. control means for switching to a second smaller value, the control means controlling the detection means while a preceding sheet of two sheets conveyed to the nip at an interval passes through the nip; In the first case where the detected temperature changes from a temperature lower than the threshold value to a temperature higher than the threshold value, and an image is formed at the leading edge of the subsequent sheet, the first value in the first case is used as the first value of the subsequent sheet. changing the value to a value larger than the first value in the second case where no image is formed on the leading edge of the sheet, and changing the blowing means to a value after the trailing edge of the preceding sheet exits the nip; It is characterized in that it starts switching the air volume to the later first value.
Here, the control means switches the air volume to the changed first value at a paper interval from when the trailing edge of the preceding sheet exits the nip until the leading edge of the succeeding sheet reaches the nip. It is also possible to complete the process within the project.
In addition, the control means may be arranged such that a time Te required for switching the air volume of the air blowing means to the changed first value is a time period Te from when the trailing edge of the preceding sheet exits the nip to when the leading edge of the succeeding sheet If it takes longer than the paper interval time Tp to reach the nip, the engine main control unit that controls the sheet transport unit that transports the sheet to the nip is asked to change the paper interval time Tp from the time before the change. An instruction may be given to extend the paper spacing beyond the standard value applied to the first value.
Another aspect of the present disclosure is an image forming apparatus including a fixing unit that thermally fixes an image formed on a conveyed sheet, the fixing unit including the above-described fixing device. .
According to the above configuration, when the temperature detected by the detection means for detecting the temperature of the fixing member or the temperature of the pressure member pressed against the fixing member rises to a threshold value or more, the air volume of the air blowing means is increased to a high level. Since the air volume is switched to a second air volume that is weaker than the first air volume when the air volume becomes lower than the threshold value, it is possible to improve both the fixing property and separation property of the sheet compared to the conventional method. can.
Hereinafter, drawings will be described regarding a fixing device and an image forming apparatus according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, using a tandem color multifunction peripheral (MFP) having functions such as a scanner, a printer, and a copy machine as an example.
[2] Configuration of Fixing Unit FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view showing the configuration of the fixing
As shown in the figure, the fixing
The fixing
The fixing
The
The
The
The
The
The
The
The
The
The

When the fixing
The paper S that has passed through the nip NP tends to remain stuck to the surface of the fixing
The sheet S separated from the surface of the fixing

[4] Separation air volume control by fan control unit 132 (4-1) FIG. 5 is a timing chart showing a specific example of the content of separation air volume control. An example of passing through the nip NP with a gap in between is shown. In FIG. 5, the horizontal axis represents the time it takes for three sheets of paper S to pass through the nip NP one by one, the vertical axis at the left end represents the detected belt temperature T, and the vertical axis at the right end represents the air volume Q of the separation air. It shows. A
Before the leading edge of the first sheet S in the transport direction (hereinafter abbreviated as "leading edge") reaches the nip NP (before time t1), the temperature of the fixing
When the detected belt temperature T rises to the target temperature Ta (time t1), it remains stable at the target temperature Ta until time t11 due to on/off switching control of the
While the first sheet S passes through the nip NP, the heat of the fixing
When the belt detection temperature T falls below the threshold Th (time t12), and then the trailing edge of the first sheet S in the transport direction (hereinafter abbreviated as "trailing edge") passes through the nip NP (time t2), The air volume Q of the separation air is reduced from Qa to Qb (time t2 to t13), and thereafter is maintained at the air volume Qb. The interval from when the trailing edge of the first sheet S passes through the nip NP (time t2) until the leading edge of the second sheet S reaches the nip NP (time t3) is referred to as the sheet gap. Within this period of time, the reduction of the separation air volume Q from Qa to Qb is completed.
Decreasing the amount Q of the separation air to Qb is equivalent to reducing the amount of air blown to the nip NP, so cooling of the fixing
Until the trailing edge of the second sheet S passes through the nip NP, at time t14, the detected belt temperature T has risen to the threshold Th, and at the time t4, the belt detection temperature T has exceeded the threshold Th. There is. Thereafter, when the detected belt temperature T rises to the target temperature Ta (time t16), the belt temperature stabilizes at the target temperature Ta by on/off switching control of the
When the trailing edge of the second sheet S passes through the nip NP (time t4), the air volume Q of separation air is increased from Qb to Qa (times t4 to t15), and thereafter is maintained at the air volume Qa. The increase in the separation air volume Q from Qb to Qba occurs after the trailing edge of the second sheet S passes through the nip NP (time t4), and after the leading edge of the third sheet S reaches the nip NP (time t4). t5) is completed within the paper interval.
While the third sheet S is passing through the nip NP, the heat of the fixing
In this embodiment, when the detected temperature T of the fixing
That is, when the detected belt temperature T is high, equal to or higher than the threshold Th, the amount of heat given to the toner particles on the paper S increases while the paper S passes through the nip NP, and the toner particles progress through melting and become more sticky. As the number of toner particles increases, the separability of the paper S from the fixing
On the other hand, when the belt detection temperature T falls below the threshold Th, the amount of heat given to the toner particles decreases, and the number of toner particles with increased stickiness also decreases, so that the separability of the paper S from the fixing
In order to prevent this, by reducing the air volume Q of the separated air to the second air volume Q2, it is possible to suppress further decrease in the temperature of the fixing
If the air volume of the separating air is determined to be an appropriate size when the temperature of the fixing
On the other hand, in the present embodiment, the air volume of separation air is switched and controlled based on the detected temperature of the fixing
(4-2) FIGS. 6 and 7 are flowcharts showing the processing details of the separation air volume control according to the present embodiment. As shown in FIG. 6, the air volume Q of separation air is set to Qa (step S11). This setting is performed by rotating the
It is determined whether the leading edge of the first sheet S has been detected (step S12). This determination is made based on the detection result of the
Furthermore, if Tα is the time obtained by dividing the paper transport path length L (FIG. 2) from the paper detection position of the
When it is determined that the leading edge of the first sheet S has been detected ("Yes" in step S12), the belt detection temperature T detected by the
It is determined whether the detected belt temperature T is lower than the threshold Th (step S14). Here, just before the leading edge of the first sheet S reaches the nip NP (immediately before time t1 in FIG. 5), the detected belt temperature T>threshold Th, so it is determined that the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th. (“No” in step S14), and the process advances to step S15.
In step S15, it is determined whether the trailing edge of the last sheet S has passed through the nip NP. Here, the last sheet refers to the last sheet to pass through the nip NP among one or more sheets to be printed (image formed) in one job. When printing on only one sheet of paper S in one job, that sheet of paper S becomes the last sheet, and when printing multiple sheets, for example, three sheets of paper S, by feeding them at intervals, The third sheet S will be the last sheet.
The number of sheets of paper S to be printed is determined for each job, so by monitoring the number of sheets of paper S detected by the
Here, it is assumed that the sheet S is not the last sheet S ("No" in step S15), and the process returns to step S13. The processes of steps S13 to S15 are repeated until it is determined that the last sheet has passed.
During this time, the heat of the fixing
For example, when there are three sheets of paper S to be printed, if the paper S currently being passed is the first one, there is a gap between the paper S and the second paper S that will be passed next (see Fig. time t2 to t3), but if the paper S currently being fed is the third (last) sheet, there is no fourth sheet S to be fed next, so a gap exists. It is judged that it does not.
If it is determined that there is a paper gap ("Yes" in step S16), the air volume Q of separation air is changed from Qa to Qb (<Qa) within the paper gap (step S17). The paper interval is from the time when the trailing edge of the paper S (for example, the first paper) passes through the nip NP until the leading edge of the next paper S (for example, the second paper) reaches the nip NP. It is determined as the time between.
To change the air volume, the process of switching the
Then, the detected belt temperature T is obtained (step S18), and it is determined whether the obtained current detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th (step S19). When the cooling of the fixing
If the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th (“No” in step S19), it is determined whether the trailing edge of the last sheet S has passed through the nip NP (step S20). Here, it is assumed that the sheet S is not the last sheet S ("No" in step S20), and the process returns to step S18. The processes of steps S18 to S20 are repeated until it is determined that the last sheet S has passed.
During this time, if it is determined that the detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th (“Yes” in step S19), it is determined in step S21 of FIG. 7 whether or not there is a paper gap. For example, when there are three sheets of paper S to be printed, if the paper S currently being fed is the second one, there is a third sheet of paper that will be fed next, so if there is a gap between the sheets, (time t4 to t5 in FIG. 5).
If it is determined that there is a paper gap ("Yes" in step S21), the air volume Q of separation air is changed from Qb to Qa (>Qb) within the paper gap (step S22). This change in air volume is performed by switching the
The belt detection temperature T is acquired again (step S23), and it is determined whether the acquired current belt detection temperature T<threshold Th (step S24). This is because the detected belt temperature T may turn to a downward trend due to the separation air flow rate Q being increased to the first air flow rate Q1 (times t17 to t18 in FIG. 5).
If the detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th (“No” in step S24), it is determined whether the trailing edge of the last sheet S has passed through the nip NP (step S25). Here, it is assumed that the paper S is not the last sheet S ("No" in step S25), and the process returns to step S23. The processes of steps S23 to S25 are repeated until it is determined that the last sheet S has passed.
During this time, if it is determined that the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th ("Yes" in step S24) (time t18 in FIG. 5), it is determined whether there is a paper gap (step S27). If it is determined that there is no paper gap ("No" in step S27), the process advances to step S28. For example, if there are three sheets S to be printed, and the third sheet S is currently being passed, it is determined that there is no gap between sheets (time t6 in FIG. 5).
In step S28, it is determined whether the trailing edge of the last sheet S has passed through the nip NP. In the above example, the last sheet S becomes the third sheet S, and when it is determined that the trailing edge of this third sheet S has passed through the nip NP ("Yes" in step S28), the separation air The air volume Q of the separated air is set to 0 (step S26), and the air volume control of the separated air is ended. Setting the air volume Q to 0 is performed by stopping the blower fan 72 (time t6 in FIG. 5).
If it is determined in steps S15, S20, and S25 that the trailing edge of the last sheet S has passed through the nip NP ("Yes" in S15, "Yes" in S20, and "Yes" in S25), the process advances to step S26. As a result, the
Here, "Yes" is determined in step S20 when the relationship of detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th is not established in step S19, that is, when detected belt temperature T has changed as shown in
If it is determined in steps S16 and S21 that there is no paper gap ("No" in S16, "No" in S21), the process advances to step S28. As a result, when the rear end of the last sheet S passes through the nip NP, the
As described above, in this embodiment, the magnitude of the separation air volume is switched based on the surface temperature of the fixing
In addition, since the reduction in air volume (from Qa to Qb) or the increase in air volume (from Qb to Qa) of separation air is started only within the time between sheets, and the change in air volume is completed, the paper S passes through the nip NP. More stable fixing performance can be maintained than when changing the flow rate of separation air midway.
Specifically, when the air volume of the separation air is changed while the paper S passes through the nip NP, the temperature of the fixing
On the other hand, if the change in the separation air volume is started and completed only during the time between sheets as in this embodiment, the leading edge of each sheet S reaches the nip NP and then thereafter. Since the amount of separation air is constant until the edge passes through the nip NP, the same level of fixing performance can be ensured over the entire sheet from the leading edge to the trailing edge.
<Embodiment 2>
[1] In the first embodiment, the glossiness of the formed image was not specifically mentioned, but in the second embodiment, in the gloss mode that emphasizes gloss, when lowering the air volume Q of separation air, the first This differs from the first embodiment in that the air volume Qa is not lowered all at once to the second air volume Qb, but is lowered in stages. Hereinafter, in order to avoid duplication of description, the description of the same content as in
FIG. 8 is a timing chart for explaining separation air flow rate control according to the second embodiment, and shows an example of changes in belt detection temperature T and separation air flow rate Q during the execution of continuous three-sheet feeding. It shows.
In this example, the detected belt temperature T remains at Tb (<Th) after time t3 (the part shown by graph 194), and a little while the third sheet S passes through the nip NP. It is on the rise. The reason why the belt detection temperature T remains at a temperature Tb slightly lower than the threshold Th is because a lot of heat from the fixing
When the user specifies the gloss mode from the
If the amount of decrease (difference) in the separation air volume Q between sheets is set to ΔQ1 (=Qa-Qb), which is the same as in
In other words, the larger the difference (air volume change) ΔQ between the air volume for the first (preceding) sheet S that is continuously passed and the air volume for the second (successful) sheet S, the larger the difference (air volume change), A difference occurs between the rate at which the temperature of the toner on the second sheet of paper decreases and the rate at which the temperature of the toner decreases on the second sheet of paper.
This difference in the rate of temperature reduction of the toner becomes a difference in the cooling rate of the toner particles, causing a difference in the glossiness of the toner image on the first and second sheets of paper, which leads to a decrease in glossiness. easy. Therefore, when the gloss mode is specified so that the air volume change ΔQ is reduced, the air volume Q of separation air is switched from the first air volume Qa to the third air volume Qc.
If the separation air volume Q is to be reduced even between the second and third sheets S that are continuously passed (times t4 to t5), the separation air volume ) The air volume Q of the separation air is decreased from Qc to Qb (times t4 to t25) so that the air volume change ΔQ with respect to the paper S is reduced. This amount of decrease ΔQ3 (=Qc−Qb) is also smaller than the amount of decrease ΔQ1 (=Qa−Qb) when the gloss mode is not specified.
When the gloss mode is specified in this way, the air volume Qa is adjusted so that the change in air volume ΔQ of separation air between sheets is smaller than when the gloss mode is not specified, within a range that can ensure sheet separation and fixing properties. By changing the size of one or both of and Qb, the difference in the glossiness of the formed image between the preceding paper and the following paper across the paper gap is suppressed, and the glossiness is improved accordingly. can be achieved.
Note that when the air flow rate of the separation air is reduced to Qb (time t25), the detected belt temperature T starts to increase thereafter. This is because, as the air volume of separated air decreases to Qb, the cooling of the fixing
[2] FIG. 9 is a flowchart illustrating processing details of separation air volume control according to the second embodiment, and this air volume control is executed for each job. As shown in the figure, it is determined whether the gloss mode is selected (step S30). This determination is made based on whether the user has specified execution of the gloss mode for the job on the
If it is determined that the gloss mode is not selected ("No" in step S30), the first air volume control is executed (step S31), and the control is ended. The first air volume control is the same control as the air volume control according to the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 6 and 7. The explanation here will be omitted.
On the other hand, if it is determined that the gloss mode is selected ("Yes" in step S30), second air volume control is executed (step S33), and the control is ended.
FIG. 10 is a flowchart showing the processing details of the second air volume control. The figure shows a part of the air volume control that is different from the air volume control shown in FIGS. 6 and 7. Specifically, S51 is executed instead of S17 between steps S16 and S18, and S52 and S53 are executed between steps S19 and S20.
If it is determined in step S16 that there is a paper gap, here, the paper gap between the first and second sheets S (time t2 to t3 in FIG. 8: the first time), ("Yes" in step S16), The air volume Q of separation air is reduced to Qc within the paper gap (step S51) (times t2 to t23 in FIG. 8). Thereafter, it is determined that the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th ("No" in step S19), and it is determined whether or not there is the next paper gap (second time) (step S52). Here, the relationship of belt detection temperature T<threshold Th is satisfied from time t3 to t4 in FIG. ).
When it is determined that there is the next paper gap ("Yes" in step S52), the air volume Q of separation air is reduced from Qc to Qb within that paper gap (step S53) (times t4 to t25 in FIG. 8), Proceed to step S20.
Until the trailing edge of the last sheet passes through the nip NP, if the relationship of detected belt temperature T<threshold Th is satisfied, a series of steps S18, S19, S52, S53, and S20 are repeated, but the separation air If the air volume Q is Qb, Qb is maintained as it is. In other words, even if there is a third, fourth, etc. paper gap, the separation air volume Q remains the same as Qb. This is because if the air volume Q of the separation air is reduced too much, the separation of the paper S from the fixing
In this way, the air volume Q of separation air is reduced from Qa to Qc during the first paper interval, and from Qc to Qb during the second paper interval. It is possible to suppress a decrease in the glossiness of the images formed on each paper S up to the edges.
Note that, in the above description, it is assumed that the second air volume control is executed upon receipt of the user's designation of the gloss mode, but the present invention is not limited thereto. Instead of manual acceptance by the user, for example, the gloss mode may be automatically selected when the area ratio U of the solid image on one sheet of paper exceeds a predetermined value, as calculated by the area determination unit 109 (FIG. 3). Also good. This automatic selection is also included in the acceptance means for accepting the gloss mode, similar to manual acceptance by the user. A solid image is usually more visible to the human eye than a character image, and if the glossiness of the solid image differs too much between the first sheet of paper S and the second or third sheet of paper S, This is because the difference becomes more noticeable, and there is a risk that the image quality will be perceived as degraded.
[3]
In the above, it is assumed that the air volume reduction of separation air is executed only during the time between sheets, but it can also be executed while the paper S is passing through the nip NP in addition to between the sheets, as shown in FIG. 11, for example. . FIG. 11 shows the graph after the third (last) sheet S from the start of the first paper gap (time t2), that is, the time when the trailing edge of the first sheet S passes (comes out) the nip NP. An example is shown in which the air volume Q is gradually reduced until the end passes the nip NP (time t6).
If the air volume is reduced while the paper S is passing through the nip NP as described above, there is a risk that the fixing performance will be affected. The rate of decline (amount of change in air volume per unit time: rate of change in air volume), that is, the slope of the
FIG. 12 is a flowchart showing the details of the separation air volume control according to
In step S61, when the separation air enters the space between the sheets, the air volume Q of the separation air starts to be reduced at a constant rate (time t2 in FIG. 11). This constant rate of decrease in air volume corresponds to the rate of decrease in the air volume (the slope of the
Thereafter, if it is determined that the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th ("No" in step S19), it is determined whether the relationship of current air volume of separated air Q>Qb is satisfied (step S62). This judgment is made by determining whether the following (Formula 1) is satisfied: Qa-(I×ti)>Qb... (Formula 1)
Here, I indicates the decreasing rate of the air volume per unit time (the slope of the
If it is determined that the relationship of air volume Q>Qb is satisfied ("Yes" in step S62), the air volume Q of the separated air continues to decrease and the process proceeds to step S20. If the trailing edge of the last sheet has not passed through the nip NP (“No” in step S20), the process returns to step S18, and if the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th (“No” in step S19), Step S62 is executed. If the trailing edge of the last sheet has not passed through the nip NP ("No" in step S20) and the detected belt temperature T<threshold Th ("No" in step S19), the relationship of air volume Q>Qb is satisfied. The processes of steps S18, S19, S62, and S20 are repeated until the air volume Q≦Qb is satisfied, and the gradual decrease in the air volume Q of separation air continues (from time t2 in FIG. 11). t6).
If it is determined that the relationship of air volume Q≦Qb is satisfied (“No” in step S62), the air volume Q of separated air is fixed at Qb (step S63) (time t6 in FIG. 11), and the process proceeds to step S20. Thereafter, the air volume Q of the separation air is maintained at Qb until the trailing edge of the last sheet passes through the nip NP (until it is determined "Yes" in step S20).
In a configuration where the paper interval is short and the reduction in air volume of the
[4] Modification 2 of Embodiment 2
In the above, a configuration example has been described in which the air volume Q of the separation air is decreased in stages, but it is also possible to adopt a configuration in which the air volume Q of the separation air is increased in stages, as shown in FIG. 13, for example. The figure shows an example in which the belt detection temperature T remains at the target temperature Ta after time t5 when the leading edge of the third sheet S reaches the nip NP. This is because the heat of the fixing
The relationship of belt detection temperature T>threshold Th is satisfied, and the separation air volume Q increases from Qb to Qd within the gap between the second sheet S and the third sheet S (time t4 to t5). However, the separation air volume Q increases from Qd to Qa within the gap between the third sheet S and the fourth sheet S (time t6 to t7). Here, there is a relationship of Qb<Qd<Qa. At time t8 when the trailing edge of the fourth and final sheet S passes through the nip NP, the air volume Q of the separation air is set to zero.
Compared to the configuration in which the air volume Q of separation air is increased from Qb to Qa at once within one paper interval as in
FIG. 14 is a flowchart showing the processing details of separation air volume control according to Modification 2, and the control is partially different from the flowcharts of FIGS. 6 and 7. Specifically, S71 is executed instead of step S22, and S72 and S73 are executed between steps S24 and S25.
In step S21, if it is determined that there is a paper gap, here the paper gap between the second and third sheets S (time t4 to t5 in FIG. 13: second time) ("Yes" in step S21), The flow rate Q of separation air is increased from Qb to Qd (<Qa) within the paper interval (step S71) (time 4 to t31 in FIG. 13). Thereafter, it is determined that the detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th (“No” in step S24), and it is determined whether or not there is the next paper interval (third time) (step S72). Here, it is determined that there is a gap between the third and fourth sheets S (times t6 to t7 in FIG. 13) as the next gap.
When it is determined that there is the next paper gap ("Yes" in step S72), the air volume Q of separation air is increased from Qd to Qa within that paper gap (step S73) (times t6 to t32 in FIG. 13), Proceed to step S25.
Until the trailing edge of the last sheet S passes through the nip NP, if the relationship of detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th is satisfied, a series of steps S23, S24, S72, S73, and S25 are repeated, but separation is not performed. If the air flow rate Q is Qa, Qa is maintained as it is. In other words, even if the fourth, fifth, etc. paper gaps exist, the separation air volume Q remains the same as Qa. This is because if the air volume Q of the separation air is increased too much, the fixing
In this way, the air volume Q of the separating air is increased from Qb to Qd within the gap between the second and third sheets of paper S, within the range that can ensure sheet separation and fixing properties, and then the next third sheet is By increasing the air volume in small steps from Qd to Qa within the gap between the sheets of paper S and the fourth sheet S, the glossiness of the images formed on the third and fourth sheets S can be improved. The decrease can be suppressed.
[5] Modification 3 of Embodiment 2
In the above modification 2, the air flow rate of separation air is increased only during the time between sheets, but for example, as shown in FIG. You can also do that. FIG. 15 shows that the air volume Q is gradually increased from the start of the second paper interval (time t4) until the trailing edge of the fourth (last) sheet S passes through the nip NP (time t8). This shows an example of increasing the value.
Similar to
FIG. 16 is a flowchart showing a part of the processing content of separation air volume control according to Modification 3, and shows parts that are different from the flowchart of FIG. 14. Specifically, S81 is executed instead of step S71, and S82 and S83 are executed instead of steps S72 and S73.
In step S81, when the separation air enters the space between the sheets, the air volume Q of the separation air starts to increase at a constant rate (time t4 in FIG. 15). This constant rate of increase in air volume corresponds to the rate of increase in air volume (the slope of
Thereafter, if it is determined that the detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th (“No” in step S24), it is determined whether the current separation air volume Q<Qa is satisfied (step S82). This judgment is made by determining whether the following relationship (Formula 2) is satisfied: Qb+(J×tj)<Qa...(Formula 2)
Here, J indicates the rate of increase in the air volume per unit time (the slope of the
If it is determined that the relationship of air volume Q<Qa is satisfied ("Yes" in step S82), the air volume Q of the separation air continues to increase and the process proceeds to step S25. If the trailing edge of the last sheet S has not passed through the nip NP ("No" in step S25), the process returns to step S23, and if the detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th ("No" in step S24), Step S82 is executed again. If the trailing edge of the last sheet S has not passed through the nip NP ("No" in step S25) and the detected belt temperature T≧threshold Th ("No" in step S24), the relationship of air volume Q<Qa is established. The processes of steps S23, S24, S82, and S25 are repeated until the relationship Qa is not satisfied, that is, until the relationship of air volume Q≧Qa is reached, and the gradual increase in the air volume Q of the separated air continues (at the point in time in FIG. 15). t4-t8).
If it is determined that the relationship of air volume Q≧Qa is satisfied (“No” in step S82), the air volume Q of separated air is fixed at Qa (step S83) (time t8 in FIG. 15), and the process proceeds to step S25. Thereafter, the air volume Q of the separation air is maintained at Qa until the trailing edge of the last sheet passes through the nip NP (until it is determined "Yes" in step S25).

[7] Other Modifications In the above, each of the rate of decrease in air volume I according to Modification Example 1 and the rate of increase in air volume J according to Modification Example 3 is set to one predetermined value, but it is not limited to this. do not have.
For example, if the area ratio U of the solid image is less than or equal to a predetermined value, the rate of change in air volume R (decrease rate I or/and increase rate J) is set as the first value, and if it exceeds this predetermined value, the rate of change in air volume R It is also possible to control to switch the value to a second value smaller than the first value. Within the range that can ensure the separation and fixation of the sheet, the larger the area ratio U of the solid image is, the smaller the rate of change in air volume R, thereby improving the glossiness of the formed image while ensuring the separation and fixation of the sheet. can suppress the decline in
Furthermore, the rate of change R of air volume can be made smaller as the number of sheets S that are continuously passed increases. Furthermore, in a case where the glossiness is not affected, there may be a configuration in which the air volume of the separating air is switched only in a section other than the interval between sheets, that is, while the sheet S is passing through the nip NP.
In the above, in the second air volume control when the gloss mode is selected, the air volume of the separation air is gradually changed (downward or upward) over both the period when the paper S passes through the nip NP and the interval between the sheets. Explained the control to do this. This control is not limited to the second air volume control, but can also be applied to, for example, the first air volume control when the gloss mode is not selected.
Specifically, if the rate of change in air volume in the first air volume control is Ra, then the rate of change is adjusted according to the air volume control to be executed so that the rate of change in air volume in the second air volume control becomes Rb (<Ra). Switch the value of R. Considering the glossiness of the formed image, the rate of change R is made gentler in the second air volume control than in the first air volume control. The rate of change R includes one or both of the rate of decline I and the rate of increase J. Specifically, when the rate of decrease in air volume I in the first air volume control is Ia, the rate of decrease in air volume I in the second air volume control becomes Ib (<Ia), and the rate of increase in air volume J in the first air volume control is In the case of Ja, the increase rate J of the air volume in the second air volume control becomes Jb (<Ja).

<変形例>
<Modified example>
Although the above has been described based on the embodiments, the present disclosure is of course not limited to the above-described embodiments, and the following modifications can be considered.
[1] In the first embodiment described above, when the belt detection temperature T decreases and falls below the threshold Th while the Nth sheet S passes through the nip NP, the trailing edge of the Nth sheet S When the separation air passes (exits) the nip NP (time t2 in the example of FIG. 5), the flow rate of the separation air starts to decrease at the same time, but the invention is not limited to this. For example, if the fixing performance is not affected, control may be taken to shift the start of the decrease in the air volume of separation air a little later. Specifically, the start of the decrease in the amount of separated air can be delayed by a predetermined period of time, for example, 1 second, from time t2. Further, it is also possible to perform control such that the flow rate of the separation air starts to decrease after the leading edge of the paper S is detected by the
Alternatively, control may be performed to start reducing the separation air volume after a predetermined number of sheets S have passed through the nip NP. For example, when the predetermined number of sheets is one, the trailing edge of the subsequent ((N+1)th) sheet S that is conveyed after the preceding (Nth) sheet S passes through the nip NP. When the trailing edge of the subsequent sheet S passes (comes out) the nip NP, the operation of reducing the separation air flow rate from Qa to Qb can be started while keeping the separation air flow rate Qa.
Furthermore, for example, if M (an integer greater than or equal to 1) sheets of paper S are sequentially conveyed after the subsequent paper S, after the trailing edge of the subsequent paper S passes through the nip NP, It is also possible to start switching the air volume after a predetermined number of sheets S has passed through the nip NP. When M is one sheet, the predetermined number of sheets is also one, and switching of the air volume is started after the trailing edge of the next sheet S passes through the nip NP. Furthermore, when M is two sheets and the predetermined number of sheets is two, the sheet S that is conveyed next to the subsequent sheet S passes through the nip NP, and the sheet S that is conveyed next after that sheet S passes through the nip NP. After the end passes through the nip NP, switching of the air volume is started. When M is two sheets and the predetermined number of sheets is one, switching of the air volume is started after the trailing edge of the next sheet S passes through the nip NP.
Similarly, the increase in the amount of separation air can be controlled by shifting the start of the increase in the amount of separation air later, as long as it does not affect the paper separation properties. As for the amount of backward displacement, a predetermined time or a predetermined number of sheets can be applied, similar to the reduction in the air volume of separation air.
[2] In the first embodiment described above, an example of a configuration in which Qa is set to the maximum air volume when increasing the air volume of separation air (times t4 to t15 in FIG. 5) has been described, but the configuration is not limited to this. For a sheet S on which a toner image is formed at the leading end in the conveyance direction, a configuration may be adopted in which the separation air volume is switched to an air volume Qe (broken line in FIG. 5) that is even larger than the normal Qa.
The separability of the paper S from the surface of the fixing
Therefore, after the Nth sheet S (second sheet in the example of FIG. 5) that is currently passing through the nip NP, the (N+1)th sheet S (third sheet in the example of FIG. 5) that is conveyed to the nip NP is ) If the paper S has a toner image formed on its leading edge, or if the toner image formed is a solid image, the air volume of the separation air is set to be lower than the air volume Qa for the Nth sheet S. If there is a large amount of Qe, if control is implemented to switch within the paper interval between the Nth and (N+1)th sheets S (in the example of FIG. 5, from time t4 to t5), the separability of the (N+1)th sheet S can be improved. You can improve.
FIG. 17 is a diagram showing a part of a flowchart showing an example of control for switching the air volume Q between Qa and Qe, and a part of the flowchart in FIG. 7 is different. That is, steps S91 and S92 are executed between steps S21 and S23.
Specifically, it is determined whether or not there is an image at the leading edge of the next sheet S, that is, the (N+1)th sheet S (step S91). This judgment is made based on the image data to be formed on the (N+1)th sheet S, depending on whether a solid image exists within a predetermined range (for example, 10 mm) from the leading edge in the conveying direction to the trailing edge in the conveying direction. be exposed. Note that the image present at the leading edge of the paper S is not limited to a solid image, and may be, for example, a character image.
If it is determined that there is no image at the leading edge of the paper ("No" in step S91), the flow rate Q of separation air is increased to Qa within the next paper interval (step S22), and the process proceeds to step S23. This process is the same as in the first embodiment.
On the other hand, if it is determined that there is an image at the leading edge of the paper ("Yes" in step S91), the separation air volume Q is increased to Qe (>Qa) within the next paper gap (step S92), and the process proceeds to step S23. . The first value of the separation air volume Q applied when the detected belt temperature T is equal to or higher than the threshold Th is the first value with an image on the leading edge of the paper S, and the first value with no image on the leading edge of the paper S. Qa in case 2 is changed to a larger Qe, and the changed air volume Qe is used.
Note that if the time Te required for the air volume Q to rise to Qe is longer than the paper interval time Tp, the next (N+1 It is also possible to take control to extend the paper spacing from the reference value so that the )th sheet S reaches the nip NP. The paper spacing is expanded by controlling the conveyance of the next sheet S, specifically by delaying the conveyance of the next sheet S by the pair of
FIG. 18 is a flowchart illustrating an example of control for increasing the separation air flow rate Q to Qe by expanding the paper gap, and shows parts different from the flowchart in FIG. 17. That is, steps S95 to S97 are executed between steps S91 and S92.
Specifically, when it is determined that there is an image at the leading edge of the next sheet S ("Yes" in step S91), the time Te required for the separation air volume Q to rise from Qb to Qe is obtained (step S91). S95). Here, the time Te is determined in advance through experiments and stored.
It is determined whether time Te≦paper interval time Tp (step S96). Here, the paper interval time Tp is a reference value, that is, the time when the paper interval is not expanded, and is determined in advance. If it is determined that time Te≦time Tp (“Yes” in step S96), the process advances to step S92. In this case, the process is the same as that shown in FIG.
On the other hand, if it is determined that time Te>time Tp ("No" in step S96), the timing for conveying the next sheet S to the nip NP is delayed (step S97), and the process proceeds to step S92. This delay is executed by the fixing
In this way, as shown in the
In the above description, the paper interval time Tp is kept constant at the reference value, but the present invention is not limited to this. Depending on the device configuration, paper feeding and conveyance control may be performed so that the paper interval Tp time differs depending on the paper size to be conveyed. In such a configuration, in step S96, the paper interval Tp is applies. The paper spacing Tp differs depending on the paper size because large size paper S (A3 or B4) has a larger area per sheet than small size paper S (A4 or B5). Since the amount of heat absorbed by S increases, by setting the paper spacing for large size paper S a little longer than the paper spacing (standard) for small size paper S, it is possible to This is because it is possible to ensure a certain level of fixing performance.
Further, in FIG. 19, an example has been described in which the time point when the separation air completes rising to the air volume Qe coincides with the time point when the leading edge of the third sheet S reaches the nip NP, but the present invention is not limited to this. For example, the third sheet S is transported so that the leading edge of the third sheet S reaches the nip NP after a certain time delay (such as 1 second) from the time when the separation air has completed rising to the air volume Qe. It is also possible to delay the timing.
[3] In the above embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5, while the paper S is passing through the nip NP, the air volume Q of the separating air is not changed, so that the front and rear sides of the paper S in the transport direction are not changed. This was done so that there would be no difference in the fixability of the toner image between the end side and the end side.
However, in a case where image quality does not deteriorate, for example, if the belt detection temperature T falls below the threshold Th while the first sheet S passes through the nip NP (time t12), during that time, In other words, a configuration may be adopted in which the air volume Q of the separation air is reduced from Qa to Qb before the rear end of the first sheet S leaves the nip NP. Furthermore, if the detected belt temperature T becomes equal to or higher than the threshold Th while the second sheet S passes through the nip NP (time t14), during that time, that is, the trailing edge of the second sheet S exits the nip NP. It is also possible to adopt a configuration in which the air flow rate Q of the separation air is increased from Qb to Qa before this point. In any of the above configurations, when the detected belt temperature T becomes equal to or higher than the threshold Th, the air volume Q of the separated air is switched to Qa (first value), and the detected belt temperature T becomes lower than the threshold Th. This can be said to be a configuration in which control is executed to switch the air volume Q of separation air to Qb (second value) smaller than Qa when the air volume Q becomes lower.
[4] In the above embodiment, for each sheet S, the process is performed from the time when the leading edge of the sheet S reaches the entrance Na of the nip NP until the rear end of the sheet S passes through the exit Nb of the nip NP. An example of a configuration in which separation air is blown has been explained. This is to improve separation from the fixing
For example, if separating air is applied only to the leading edge of the paper S, separation performance for one sheet S can be ensured, then the separating air is blown until immediately after the leading edge of the paper S leaves the nip NP. After that, the spraying of separation air may be terminated. When this configuration is adopted, the spraying of separation air is restarted at the timing when the leading edge of the next sheet S reaches the nip NP. The blowing of the separation air can be completed, for example, when the leading edge of the sheet S has been conveyed a predetermined distance, for example 5 to 10 mm, from the exit Nb of the nip NP.
[5] In the above embodiment, the air flow rate Q of the separated air is switched based on the detection result of the temperature of the fixing
In addition, although an example of a configuration has been described in which the fixing
Furthermore, the pressure member that forms a nip with the fixing member is not limited to a rotating body, but can also be applied to a configuration using a non-rotating body, such as a pad-shaped fixing pad.
Furthermore, although a configuration example has been described in which the
[6] In the above embodiments, an example has been described in which the image forming apparatus according to the present disclosure is applied to a tandem color multifunction peripheral, but the invention is not limited to this.
