Currently, in order to improve color reproducibility, incorporating an optical wavelength conversion sheet comprising an optical wavelength conversion layer containing quantum dots and a binder resin into a backlight device is being considered (for example,
(See Patent Document 1). Quantum dots can absorb light (primary light) and emit light of different wavelengths (secondary light). The wavelength of light emitted by a quantum dot depends mainly on the particle size of the quantum dot. Therefore, a backlight device incorporating a light wavelength conversion sheet can reproduce various colors while using a light source that projects light in a single wavelength range. for example,
When using a light source that emits blue light, the optical wavelength conversion sheet can also absorb the blue light and emit green light and red light. Since a backlight device incorporating such a light wavelength conversion sheet has excellent color purity, an image display device using this backlight device has excellent color reproducibility.

In optical wavelength conversion sheets, quantum dots are degraded by moisture and oxygen, which may reduce luminous efficiency, so a barrier film is placed on both sides of the optical wavelength conversion layer to suppress the transmission of moisture and oxygen. It is set up. Since the barrier film is provided to sandwich the optical wavelength conversion layer, the optical wavelength conversion sheet usually has a structure in which the barrier film, the optical wavelength conversion layer, and the barrier film are laminated in this order.

However, even with the optical wavelength conversion sheet having the above structure, the optical wavelength conversion sheet is usually cut into a desired size with barrier films provided on both sides of the optical wavelength conversion layer. There is no barrier film on the side surface of the light wavelength conversion sheet, and the light wavelength conversion layer is exposed. Therefore, the quantum dots at the ends of the optical wavelength conversion sheet are more likely to deteriorate than at the center of the optical wavelength conversion sheet. If the quantum dots at the edges of the light wavelength conversion sheet deteriorate, the edges will have a different color than the center when emitting light.

The ionizing radiation polymerizable prepolymer has a weight average molecular weight of more than 10,000, preferably from 10,000 to 80,000, more preferably from 10,000 to 40,000. When the weight average molecular weight exceeds 80,000, the viscosity is high and the coating suitability is lowered, and the appearance of the resulting light wavelength conversion layer may be deteriorated. Therefore, when using an ionizing radiation polymerizable prepolymer having a weight average molecular weight of more than 80,000, it is preferable to use a mixture of the above polymerizable monomers and the above polymerizable oligomers. Examples of the polyfunctional polymerizable prepolymer include urethane (meth)acrylate, isocyanurate (meth)acrylate, polyester-urethane (meth)acrylate, and epoxy (meth)acrylate.

The mass % of the light-scattering particles described below can be approximately calculated by the following method. First, at least a part of the optical wavelength conversion layer is sampled from the optical wavelength conversion sheet and its mass is measured. Next, the host matrix contained in the sampled portion is dissolved in a solvent or incinerated by combustion to remove host matrix components. When host matrix components are removed, quantum dots and light-scattering particles are not removed, and the particle sizes of quantum dots and light-scattering particles are significantly different. Separate the components of scattering particles. Next, the masses of the separated quantum dot components and the components of the light scattering particles are measured. Then, based on the mass of at least a portion of the sampled optical wavelength conversion layer and the mass of the quantum dots, the ratio of the mass of the quantum dots included in at least a portion of the sampled optical wavelength conversion layer is calculated. Further, based on the mass of at least a portion of the sampled light wavelength conversion layer and the mass of the light scattering particles, the ratio of the mass of the light scattering particles contained in at least a portion of the sampled light wavelength conversion layer is calculated.

It can be determined as the average value of 10 refractive indexes of 8. The Becke method uses a refractive index standard solution with a known refractive index, places the fragment on a slide glass, etc., drops the refractive index standard solution onto the sample, immerses the fragment in the refractive index standard solution, and then is observed using a microscope, and bright lines (Becke lines) that occur on the surface of the binder resin or light-scattering particles cannot be visually observed due to the difference in the refractive index of the surface of the binder resin or light-scattering particles and the refractive index standard solution. This is a method in which the refractive index of a refractive index standard solution is used as the refractive index of a host matrix or light-scattering particles. Note that if the surface of the light-scattering particle is not exposed in the piece taken out, the surface of the light-scattering particle is covered with a host matrix, so the host matrix existing around the light-scattering particle No refractive index difference occurs. Therefore, by measuring the refractive index difference between the light-scattering particles and the host matrix existing around them using the Becke method, it is possible to determine whether or not a part of the surface of the light-scattering particles is exposed. . In addition, the refractive index difference between the binder resin and the light-scattering particles is measured using a phase-shift laser interference microscope (phase-shift laser interference microscope manufactured by FK Optical Research Institute, two-beam interference microscope manufactured by Mizojiri Optical Co., Ltd., etc.). can do.

Then, a local maximum value and a local minimum value adjacent to the local maximum value are detected from the obtained luminance change amount distribution. In this specification, the term "maximum value" refers to a point where the amount of change in brightness changes from increasing to decreasing, and where the amount of change in brightness becomes 1.5% or more. Furthermore, the term "minimum value" as used herein means a point at which the amount of change in brightness changes from decreasing to increasing, and the amount of change in brightness becomes -1.5% or less. Note that if no maximum value or minimum value is detected, it is determined that there is no deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet in this portion.

When a local maximum value and a local minimum value are detected, the width from the position where the local maximum value is obtained to the position where the local minimum value is obtained (hereinafter, this width is referred to as the "deterioration width") is calculated, and based on this deterioration width. to evaluate the deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet. Specifically, for example, the deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet can be evaluated based on whether the deterioration width is within a predetermined range. For example, if this deterioration width is 5 mm or less, even if you visually evaluate the color change of the optical wavelength conversion sheet, you will not notice the change in color. In this case, it can be determined that there is no deterioration in the portion of the optical wavelength conversion sheet where deterioration was evaluated. Therefore, the width of this deterioration is 5
Deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet can be evaluated depending on whether or not it is less than mm.

The deterioration width represents how far the deterioration of the quantum dots has spread, and the larger the deterioration width, the wider the area where the quantum dots have deteriorated. Here, while the human eye can easily detect deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet when there is a large local brightness change, it tends not to detect it when the deteriorated area of the optical wavelength conversion sheet is narrow. be. For this reason, the human eye can detect deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet when the local brightness change is large and the optical wavelength conversion sheet is degraded over a large area, but the local brightness change is Even if the deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet is large, if the degraded area of the optical wavelength conversion sheet is narrow, the deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet cannot be detected. In contrast, in the present embodiment, since the deterioration of the optical wavelength conversion sheet is evaluated based on the deterioration width, quantitative deterioration evaluation that is highly correlated with visual evaluation can be performed.

In the above, a light wavelength conversion sheet smaller than the light emitting surface of the backlight device is used, but for example, the quantum dots may deteriorate into spots in areas other than the edges of the light wavelength conversion sheet. When determining the size of a spot where the light has deteriorated, the size of the light wavelength conversion sheet does not necessarily have to be smaller than the light emitting surface of the backlight device.

First, two barrier films were produced by the following method. In a high-frequency sputtering device, a high-frequency power of 13.56 MHz and 5 kW of power is applied to the electrodes to generate a discharge in the chamber, and polyethylene terephthalate as a light-transmitting substrate with a size of 7 inches and a thickness of 50 μm is generated. Forming a silica vapor-deposited layer as a barrier layer made of a target material (silica) with a thickness of 50 nm and a refractive index of 1.46 on one side of a film (product name "Lumirror T60", manufactured by Toray Industries, Inc.), As a result, two barrier films each having a silica vapor-deposited layer formed on one side of the polyethylene terephthalate film were formed.

Next, the above light-diffusing layer composition was applied to the surface of both barrier films opposite to the silica-deposited layer side to form a coating film. Next, the formed coating film was dried by passing dry air at 80° C. for 30 seconds to evaporate the solvent in the coating film. after that,
The coating film was cured by irradiating ultraviolet rays at a cumulative light amount of 500 mJ/cm 2 to form a light diffusion layer having a thickness of 10 μm, thereby forming a barrier film with a light diffusion layer.

A durability test was conducted by leaving the product in an environment of 0° C. and 90% relative humidity for 300 hours. Then, the light wavelength conversion sheet after the durability test was placed on the light emitting surface (light emitting surface of the light diffusing plate) of the backlight device. Then, with the blue light emitting diode of the backlight device turned on, a 2D color luminance meter (product name "UA-200", manufactured by Topcon Technohouse) was measured from above the light wavelength conversion sheet.
was used to measure the luminance distribution of the entire surface of the light wavelength conversion sheet on the 2D color luminance meter side and the light emitting surface outside the light wavelength conversion sheet.

After measuring the brightness distribution, the measured brightness distribution is imported as data into a personal computer, and the personal computer converts the light wavelength from any point on the light emitting surface outside the light wavelength conversion sheet based on the data of the brightness distribution. The brightness distribution in a straight line was extracted along one side of the sheet, across the optical wavelength conversion sheet, to another arbitrary point on the light emitting surface outside the optical wavelength conversion sheet (see FIG. 9). Next, in this extracted brightness distribution, the brightness distribution is normalized so that the maximum brightness is 100%, the unit is converted to %, the brightness change distribution is determined from the brightness distribution, and the maximum brightness is calculated from the brightness change distribution. and a local minimum value adjacent to the local maximum value (see FIGS. 10 and 11). Note that the luminance measurement interval was 0.12 mm.
Then, the deterioration width, which is the width from the detected local maximum value to the detected local minimum value, was determined. Note that since the light passes through two ends of the wavelength conversion sheet, in the luminance change distribution, maximum and minimum values may appear at one end, and maximum and minimum values may appear at the other end. However, in that case, the deterioration width was determined for each, and the larger deterioration width was taken as the deterioration width. In Figures 10 and 11, the horizontal axis is the number of pixels, so the degradation is achieved by multiplying the absolute value of the difference between the pixel where the maximum value appears and the pixel where the minimum value appears by 0.12 mm, which is the size of one pixel. The width dw was determined.
