Description
The present invention relates to a light adjuster that controls the state of light transmission by electrical control.
Light control bodies that switch between an opaque state (for example, a cloudy state) and a transparent state are used in various applications. For example, by fixing (or sandwiching) the light control body to glass, it becomes possible to adopt it for window glass, exhibition windows, partitions, etc. For example, to separate private space from public space, etc. In addition to separation equipment, it is also practically used for automobile sunroofs and sunvisors.
For example, the light control body includes a light control layer made of a liquid crystal material held between transparent electrodes, and changes the orientation state of liquid crystal molecules contained in the light control layer by applying a voltage to the electrodes to change the direction of incident light. It is configured to be switchable between an opaque state in which it scatters and a transparent state in which incident light is transmitted (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
A light control body having a light control layer made of a liquid crystal material includes a process in which a monomer is hardened by radical polymerization, thermal polymerization, or a combination thereof to form a polymer. The transparent electrodes or alignment films formed on the base material of are adhered to each other via a polymer.
Liquid crystal elements used for purposes other than light control are of a type that uses a flexible base material such as a polymer film. A sealant made of an epoxy adhesive or the like is polymerized and adhered to the outer edge of the material), and a liquid crystal cell is formed by filling a gap defined inside the sealant with liquid crystal.
A flexible resin film base material is used, and a light control body with a configuration (and process) suitable for continuous roll-to-roll manufacturing has been proposed. It is also an advantage that a light control body cut into a shape (contour) can be commercialized.
In the manufacture of the above type of light control body, when PNLC (polymer network liquid crystal), which will be described later, is adopted as the light control layer, a mixture of liquid crystal and a photopolymerizable compound (monomer) is combined with a pair of flexible transparent electrode substrates ( Substrates on which transparent electrodes are formed. In some cases, an alignment film is also formed.), irradiated with ultraviolet rays under certain conditions, and photopolymerized to change the photopolymerizable compound into a polymer, A process of forming a polymer network with countless fine domains (macromolecular voids) in the liquid crystal by photopolymerization and cross-linking is employed.

In the light control body manufactured in this way, it is difficult in terms of process to dispose the sealant on the periphery of the light control body whose outer shape is defined by cutting. Therefore, in a light control body having a structure in which a transparent electrode base material is polymerized and bonded by a light control layer, the type of the transparent electrode (or alignment film), the polymer in which the liquid crystal molecules are dispersed and mixed (the precursor monomer or oligomer) The polymerization adhesion strength between the transparent electrode or the alignment film formed on the pair of substrates sandwiching the light control layer and the light control layer (resulting in the adhesion strength between the transparent electrode substrates) varies greatly depending on the type of the material. become.
At present, sufficient polymerization adhesion strength between the transparent electrode or alignment film and the light control layer is not ensured, and the adhesion strength between the upper and lower base materials is insufficient, so the light control body tends to peel off. .
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a light modulating body capable of stably ensuring the polymerization adhesion strength between a transparent electrode base material and a light modulating layer regardless of their types.

It is expressed by the surface roughness specified by B 0601-2001. The surface roughness is obtained based on the cross-sectional shape obtained from a stylus roughness meter. A parameter Rz in the height direction called "maximum height" is obtained by extracting a part of the roughness curve measured with a roughness meter with a reference length, the highest part (maximum peak height: Rp) and the deepest part (maximum valley Depth: Determined by the value of the sum of Ry). In the text below, the roughness Rz is referred to as the maximum height.

In the present invention, as the light control layer (liquid crystal layer), a type of PNLC (polymer network liquid crystal) in which liquid crystal molecules are arranged in the voids formed inside a polymer network made of a resin formed in a three-dimensional mesh shape. , or a type of PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) having liquid crystal molecules dispersed in a polymer. In the following description, the PNLC type will be mainly described, but the light modulating layer may have a structure other than this.

The
Conventionally known liquid crystal molecules such as nematic liquid crystals, smectic liquid crystals, and cholesteric liquid crystals can be used as the liquid crystal molecules. Among them, in consideration of driving at a low voltage and scattering characteristics, a material having a high anisotropy of the dielectric constant and a large anisotropy of the refractive index is preferable. The liquid crystal molecules may have functional groups such as ethylene groups that undergo polymerization reactions to form polymer networks.
The
When the reverse mode
In manufacturing a light control body having a
The
The driving voltage of a PNLC generally depends on the structural properties of the polymer network (size and shape of domains, film thickness of the polymer network, etc.), and the structure of the polymer network and the resulting degree of light transmission and scattering. In relation, the drive voltage is determined. In the voltage range of 100 V or less, in order to construct a PNLC that can obtain a sufficient degree of light transmission and scattering, each domain must have an appropriate size and a uniform shape. It is necessary to form a polymer network as follows. In the present invention, the domain size, which depends on the polymer network structure, is controlled to be 3 μm or less, preferably 2 μm or less, more preferably about 1 μm.

<給電部>

Next, improvement of the polymerization adhesive strength between the transparent electrode and the light control layer by roughening the transparent electrode (orientation film), which is the main feature of the present invention, will be described.

Etching methods are roughly divided into two types: a wet etching method that uses a solution (etchant) that chemically dissolves ITO, and a physical and/or chemical etching method that uses gas instead of liquid. It is a dry etching method. The advantages of the former are that a high etching selectivity can be obtained by appropriately selecting the resist and substrate materials, and that it can be easily performed without the need for special equipment. There are many problems, such as undercuts due to side etching, low processing accuracy, and the fact that the substrate cannot be placed vertically, so the floor space of the equipment increases if the substrate becomes large. The semicircular cross-sectional shape of the concave portion shown in FIG. 1B is a phenomenon resulting from the isotropy of the wet etching method. On the other hand, the latter dry etching has the advantage of being able to form fine patterns. There are problems such as not being able to obtain enough Here, sputter etching refers to an etching method in which an object to be etched is physically destroyed and removed by ion bombardment, and since the active species is only ions, it has the advantage of being highly straight and not causing side etching. In the present invention, the latter dry etching is preferable in consideration of the uneven size of the target non-flat portion (a step difference of 10 nm or more and 400 nm or less, Rz). In etching, an appropriate assist gas is selected in consideration of the selectivity (etching rate) between the resist 20 and the

As for the size (diameter, depth) of such unevenness, it is preferable that the step of the unevenness is 10 nm or more and 400 nm or less and the maximum height Rz is 10 nm or more and 400 nm or less. If the unevenness and the maximum height Rz are in the visible light wavelength range (400 to 780 nm), Rayleigh scattering (wavelength selective scattering) is caused, and light scattering occurs in a specific hue. , the unevenness size is designed to be in a range outside the visible light region wavelength range. If the lower limit of the step difference of the unevenness is 10 nm or less, the effectiveness of ensuring the adhesion strength is poor and not realistic.

Similarly, a
