Description
The present invention relates to a technology of a reading device for reading image information recorded on a document.
For image reading devices applied to image forming devices such as copiers and facsimiles, it is necessary to speed up the throughput of reading documents or to reduce the possibility of damage or breakage of documents during transport without complicating the transport system. It is required to reduce In response to such a demand, a reading device has been developed that can read images on both sides of a document at once.
For example, an image reading apparatus disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-200002 adopts a configuration in which a front side reading section and a back side reading section are arranged close to each other and opposed to each other in order to make the apparatus compact.
Specifically, the optical system of the back surface reading unit is placed on the translucent platen surface on the side where the front surface reading unit is arranged and in a position that does not obstruct the optical path when the front surface reading unit optically reads the document. A white reference plate is provided to correct for This makes it difficult for the white reference plate to become dirty.
However, in Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2002-100001, the white reference plate of the back side reading portion is located farther than the reading position. In addition, there is a characteristic that the distribution of light becomes darker and wider as the distance from the light source to the reading position increases.
For example, assume that a white reference plate placed far from the reading position is read, shading data for shading correction is generated, and the shading correction is performed.
In this case, within the scanning range in the direction (main scanning direction) perpendicular to the document feeding direction, the brightness is lower at both ends (both ends of main scanning) than at the center (center of main scanning), resulting in uneven brightness. Occur. Therefore, there remains a problem that the shading data values for both ends of the main scanning are relatively higher than the shading data values for the central portion of the main scanning.
Also, if the document is read while the shading data values at both ends of the main scanning are high, the reading position is closer than the white reference plate, so the luminance at both ends of the main scanning is higher than that at the center. There remains the problem of waste. It is also possible to arrange a long light source in the main scanning direction to eliminate the influence of luminance at both ends of the main scanning within the reading range. However, in this case, the problem remains that the size of the reading unit becomes large, and the entire apparatus becomes large.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A main object of the present invention is to provide a reading apparatus capable of correcting shading data and suppressing the occurrence of luminance unevenness within a reading range. According to the present invention, it is possible to correct the shading data based on the luminance of the reading result after the shading correction, and suppress the occurrence of uneven luminance within the reading range.

Shading correction is performed to correct the influence of non-uniformity in the amount of light of the LED
(1) Shading correction output (n)=document reading value (n)/shading data (n)×reading target value (1)
Note that n in equation (1) indicates the pixel position in the

FIG. 4 is a diagram for explaining an example of the relationship (illuminance distribution characteristic) between the position in the main scanning direction and the luminance according to the distance from the light source. In FIG. 4A, the light source is a point light source that irradiates light from one point (upper part), and the illuminance distribution characteristics in that case are shown in graphs (lower part). In addition, in FIG. 4B, the light source is a linear light source that linearly irradiates light (upper part), and the illuminance distribution characteristic in that case is shown in a graph (lower part). In each graph, the vertical axis represents luminance, and the horizontal axis represents the main scanning direction.
Lines A and B in the figure respectively indicate luminance observation positions, and line B is relatively farther from the light source than line A, that is, is an observation position far from the light source.
When the light source is a point light source, the illuminance distribution characteristic is as shown in FIG. 4(a). It can be seen that the luminance drops significantly as the distance from the light source increases, resulting in a darker and broader distribution.
On the other hand, the light irradiated through the
FIG. 5 is a graph showing an example of the relationship between each pixel in the main scanning direction (main scanning pixel) and luminance in each process of shading correction. In each graph, the vertical axis represents luminance, and the horizontal axis represents each main scanning pixel arranged in the main scanning direction.
FIG. 5A is an example of white reference plate read data, showing luminance data (luminance values) acquired by reading the
FIG. 5(b) represents shading data generated based on the white reference plate read data (luminance data) shown in FIG. 5(a).
Also, when a document 102 (for example, a blank sheet, hereinafter referred to as a reference document) having a uniform density is fed through the
After the application of the shading data, that is, after the shading correction, the luminance data obtained from the blank page reading data obtained by reading the reference document has uneven luminance data at both ends of the main scanning as shown in FIG. 5(c). . That is, it can be seen that the luminance data at both ends of the main scanning is relatively higher than that at the center of the main scanning.
Therefore, a correction coefficient for correcting the shading data of each pixel at both ends of the main scanning is calculated based on the brightness of the center portion of the main scanning and the brightness of each pixel at both ends of the main scanning in the blank read data. calculate. By applying this correction coefficient to the shading data, processing is performed so as to obtain blank read data as shown in FIG. 5(d).
FIG. 6 is a graph for explaining the setting of the threshold when calculating the correction coefficient based on the brightness at the main scanning central portion and the main scanning end portions. In the graph shown in FIG. 6, the vertical axis represents luminance, and the horizontal axis represents each main scanning pixel arranged in the main scanning direction.
As shown in FIG. 6, a brightness value as a threshold is set based on the brightness data of the center portion of the main scanning. The threshold value is, for example, a value obtained by averaging luminance values at a plurality of main scanning positions in the center of main scanning. Then, a pixel having a luminance value higher than the threshold is specified as a correction target pixel, and a correction coefficient for correcting shading data for this correction target pixel is calculated. Note that 1 is set as a correction coefficient for a pixel having a luminance value not higher than the threshold. Calculation of the correction coefficient can be performed using the following equation (2).
