Description
The present invention relates to light emitting devices.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a light-emitting device is known which is formed by combining a solid-state light source and a wavelength conversion body containing a phosphor. As such a light emitting device, for example, a white light emitting diode (LED) is known. A general white LED has a configuration in which a blue LED chip, which is a blue light emitting element, and a phosphor are combined. In such a white LED, part of the light emitted from the blue LED chip is wavelength-converted by the phosphor, and the blue light from the blue LED chip and the light emitted from the phosphor are additively mixed to produce white light. ing. Also, in recent years, a light-emitting device that emits high-power white light has been developed by combining a laser diode (LD) and a phosphor.
Here, as a solid-state light source that emits white light, a combination of a blue LED chip or a blue LD that emits blue excitation light and a yellow phosphor that emits yellow fluorescence is mainstream. However, in recent years, in order to improve color rendering properties and color reproducibility, or to obtain white color with a low color temperature, in addition to a blue light source and a yellow or green phosphor, a red phosphor that emits red fluorescence has been combined. The development of a white light source is progressing.
The present invention has been made in view of such problems of the prior art. An object of the present invention is to provide a light emitting device capable of efficiently outputting a red light component by increasing the conversion efficiency of excitation light.
In order to solve the above problems, a light-emitting device according to an aspect of the present invention includes a first solid-state light source that emits first excitation light having an emission peak within a wavelength range of 420 nm or more and less than 470 nm; A second solid-state light source emitting a second excitation light having an emission peak within a wavelength range, and a wavelength converter. The wavelength converter includes a first phosphor that absorbs light within a wavelength range of 420 nm or more and less than 470 nm and emits a first fluorescence having a fluorescence peak within a wavelength range of 500 nm or more and less than 580 nm. and a second phosphor layer containing a second phosphor that absorbs light within a wavelength range of 420 nm or more and less than 560 nm and emits a second fluorescence having a fluorescence peak within a wavelength range of 600 nm or more and less than 700 nm. Prepare. In the light emitting device, the first excitation light is applied to the first phosphor layer, and the second excitation light is applied to the second phosphor layer. The output light of the light emitting device includes the light component of the first excitation light and the light component of the second excitation light, and the light component of the first fluorescence and the light component of the second fluorescence. A portion of the first excitation light passes through the first phosphor layer and the second phosphor layer to form a light component of the output light, and a portion of the second excitation light passes through the second phosphor layer. constitute the light component of the output light.
Hereinafter, the light emitting device of this embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings. It should be noted that the embodiments described below are all preferred specific examples. Therefore, numerical values, shapes, materials, constituent elements, arrangement positions and connection forms of constituent elements, and the like shown in the following embodiments are merely examples, and are not meant to limit the present embodiments. 4 to 10 are schematic diagrams, and are not necessarily strictly illustrated. In addition, in FIGS. 4 to 10, the same components are denoted by the same reference numerals, and overlapping descriptions are omitted or simplified.
As a light-emitting device that combines a solid-state light source such as a laser diode and a phosphor and emits white light as output light, for example, the following system is conceivable.
The first is a light-emitting device that combines a solid-state light source that emits blue light and a yellow phosphor that emits yellow fluorescence. Light-emitting devices of this type are widely used because they can reduce power consumption and facilitate drive control of solid-state light sources. However, in this light-emitting device, since the obtained white light has two color components, it is not possible to produce warm light such as incandescent light, and color control is difficult.
The second type is a light-emitting device that combines a solid-state light source that emits blue light, a yellow phosphor that emits yellow fluorescence or a green phosphor that emits green fluorescence, and a red phosphor that emits red fluorescence. In this type of light-emitting device, the white light obtained is a mixture of three color components, so any white light can be produced by adjusting the intensity of each color component. Therefore, this light-emitting device can easily control the color compared to the above-described method in which the color components are two colors.
Here, as a yellow phosphor used in these light-emitting devices, a phosphor (YAG:Ce) represented by the general formula Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce 3+ can be mentioned. YAG:Ce has a high luminescence quantum efficiency, and the luminescence quantum efficiency hardly changes even when excited by a high-power solid-state light source. On the other hand, the red phosphor has a problem that when blue light is used as excitation light, energy conversion loss occurs and the wavelength conversion efficiency decreases.
The energy conversion loss of the red phosphor will be explained in detail. FIG. 1 is a graph showing the excitation spectrum and emission spectrum of CaAlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ (CASN:Eu) containing Eu 2+ as the emission center. From the emission spectrum in FIG. 1, it is found that CASN:Eu emits fluorescence with an emission peak wavelength around 650 nm. Also, from the excitation spectrum in FIG. 1, it is found that CASN:Eu absorbs both blue light with a wavelength of around 450 nm and green light with a wavelength of around 540 nm, and emits red light.
FIG. 2 is a graph showing the relationship between energy and wavelength for blue, green, and red light. As shown in FIG. 2, the energy of blue light with a wavelength of 450 nm is 2.76 eV, and the energy of red light with a wavelength of 650 nm is 1.91 eV. Therefore, when the red phosphor absorbs blue light and converts it into red light, 0.85 eV, which is the difference ΔE1 between the energy of the blue light and the energy of the red light, is converted into heat.
In contrast, the energy of green light with a wavelength of 540 nm is 2.30 eV. Therefore, when the red phosphor absorbs green light and converts it into red light, 0.39 eV, which is the difference ΔE2 between the energy of the green light and the energy of the red light, is converted into heat. That is, in the red phosphor, the longer the wavelength of the excitation light, the more difficult it is to convert the excitation light into heat, and the smaller the energy conversion loss (Stokes loss), so the energy conversion efficiency can be improved. . Therefore, in the red phosphor, by using green light as the excitation light, it is possible to reduce the amount of energy loss and increase the conversion efficiency. In addition, since heat generation from the red phosphor can be suppressed by reducing the amount of energy loss, laser light with high power density can be preferably used as the excitation light.
FIG. 3 is a graph showing the absorption spectrum, excitation spectrum and emission spectrum of a phosphor represented by La(Si, Al) 6 (N, O) 11 :Ce 3+ (LSA:Ce 3+ ), which will be described later. From the emission spectrum in FIG. 3, LSA:Ce 3+ is found to be a red phosphor that emits red light, since the emission peak wavelength is around 630 nm. Here, the absorption spectrum is a spectrum generated by the excitation light being absorbed by the phosphor, and the excitation spectrum is a spectrum obtained by fixing the fluorescence side wavelength and plotting the observed fluorescence intensity against the excitation light side wavelength. . Therefore, generally, the shapes of the absorption spectrum and the excitation spectrum are approximately the same. However, as shown in FIG. 3, LSA:Ce 3+ has a peculiar property in which the shapes of the absorption spectrum and the excitation spectrum are different.
Here, LSA:Ce 3+ has excitation light absorption loss near the wavelength of 450 nm. Specifically, it can be seen from the absorption spectrum in FIG. 3 that LSA:Ce 3+ has a high absorptivity of excitation light near a wavelength of 450 nm. However, from the excitation spectrum in FIG. 3, it can be seen that LSA:Ce 3+ has a low emission intensity near a wavelength of 450 nm. In other words, although LSA:Ce 3+ has a high absorptance of blue light around a wavelength of 450 nm, it has a low emission intensity, so that the absorbed blue excitation light is converted into heat. Therefore, when LSA:Ce 3+ is excited by blue light, the energy conversion loss increases and the energy conversion efficiency decreases.
On the other hand, it can be seen from FIG. 3 that LSA:Ce 3+ has a high absorptivity and a high emission intensity near a wavelength of 540 nm. Therefore, when LSA:Ce 3+ is excited by green light, the energy conversion loss is reduced, and the energy conversion efficiency can be improved. In addition, since heat generation from LSA:Ce 3+ can be suppressed by reducing the amount of energy loss, laser light with high power density can be preferably used as the excitation light.
In this way, the red phosphor can reduce energy conversion loss and increase luminous efficiency by using green light having an emission peak within a wavelength range of 490 nm or more and less than 560 nm as excitation light. In addition, since the heat generation of the phosphor can be suppressed by reducing the energy conversion loss, laser light with high power density can be used as the excitation light.
Here, the device shown in FIG. 4 can be exemplified as a light emitting device that excites a red phosphor with green light. A

The green light emitted upward reaches the
In the light-emitting
As a method of improving such conversion efficiency, there is a method of using a
In order to emit output light from the
The green fluorescent light and green laser light 6a emitted upward reach the
In the light-emitting
However, the
Further, in the
In order to improve the conversion efficiency of excitation light, the
The first solid-
Laser diodes can emit light with a higher optical power density than light emitting diodes. Therefore, the use of the laser diode allows the high-output
On the other hand, the upper limit of the light power density with which the phosphor layer is irradiated from the laser diode is not particularly limited. However, if the light power density with which the phosphor layer is irradiated from the laser diode is too high, the amount of heat generated from the phosphor increases, which may adversely affect the
The laser diode may be composed of one, or may be composed of a plurality of optically coupled laser diodes. A laser diode may, for example, comprise a light-emitting layer formed from a nitride semiconductor having a growth plane that is a non-polar plane or a semi-polar plane.

The first phosphor is not particularly limited as long as it absorbs light with a wavelength of 420 nm or more and less than 470 nm and emits first fluorescence having a fluorescence peak at a wavelength of 500 nm or more and less than 580 nm. The second phosphor is not particularly limited as long as it absorbs light with a wavelength of 420 nm or more and less than 560 nm and emits second fluorescence having a fluorescence peak at a wavelength of 600 nm or more and less than 700 nm. The second phosphor is preferably at least one of CaAlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ (CASN:Eu) and (Sr,Ca)AlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ (SCASN:Eu), for example.
As the second phosphor, a phosphor containing a matrix material and trivalent cerium (Ce 3+ ) as a luminescent center may be used. The host material may contain lanthanide elements other than Ce or yttrium (Y). Also, the matrix material is preferably a nitride or an oxynitride. The second phosphor preferably contains a crystal phase having a chemical composition represented by the composition formula: Ce x M 3-xy β 6 γ 11-z . From the viewpoint of increasing the emission intensity, x is preferably 0.0003 or more, more preferably 0.015 or more. The upper limit of x is not particularly limited as long as the second phosphor can emit light. However, if x is too large, the emission intensity may decrease due to concentration quenching. The above element groups other than La can enter the M site because they have ionic radii close to La.
In the above composition formula, y satisfies 0≤y≤1.0. By setting y to 1.0 or less, the structure of the crystal phase can be stabilized.
In the above composition formula, β preferably contains 50 mol % or more of Si. That is, β preferably contains only Si or contains 50 mol % or more of Si and 50 mol % or less of other elements. β may also contain at least one element of Al and Ga, for example. Also, (100x/6) mol % or more of β may be at least one of Al and Ga. That is, in Ce x M 3-xy β 6 γ 11-z , the substance amount of at least one element of Al and Ga may be equal to or greater than the substance amount of Ce. Also, (300x/6) mol % or more of β may be at least one of Al and Ga. That is, in Ce x M 3-xy β 6 γ 11-z , the substance amount of at least one element of Al and Ga may be three times or more the substance amount of Ce. β may further contain other elements as long as the phosphor can emit light.
In the above composition formula, γ preferably contains 80 mol % or more of N. That is, γ preferably contains only N or contains 80 mol % or more of N and 20 mol % or less of other elements. γ may also contain O (oxygen), for example. Thus, for example, when part of the Si site near Ce is replaced with Al or Ga, or when part of the N site is replaced with O, the symmetry of the ligand of Ce becomes low, It becomes possible to realize light emission with a longer wavelength.
In the above composition formula, z satisfies 0≦z≦1.0. When N is deficient, that is, when z is greater than 0, the symmetry of the Ce ligand becomes lower, and longer wavelength emission can be achieved. Also, by setting z to be 1.0 or less, the structure of the crystal phase can be stabilized.
Specifically, the second phosphor is a compound represented by La 3 (Si 6-s ,Al s )N 11-(1/3)s :Ce 3+ (0≦s≦1), Lu 2 CaMg 2 Si 3 O 12 : Compound represented by Ce 3+ , (Ca, Sr, Ba, Mg)AlSiN 3 : Compound represented by Ce 3+ , CaSiN 2 : Compound represented by Ce 3+ , Sr 3 Sc It preferably contains at least one selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by 4O 9 :Ce 3+ and compounds represented by GdSr 2 AlO 5 :Ce 3+ . The compound represented by (Ca,Sr,Ba,Mg)AlSiN 3 :Ce 3+ emits light with a peak wavelength of 590 nm. A compound represented by CaSiN 2 :Ce 3+ emits light with a peak wavelength of 640 nm. The compound represented by Sr 3 Sc 4 O 9 :Ce 3+ emits light with a peak wavelength of 620 nm. A compound represented by GdSr 2 AlO 5 :Ce 3+ emits light with a peak wavelength of 580 nm.
It is particularly preferable that the second phosphor is a phosphor containing a compound having the same crystal structure as the compound La 3 Si 6 N 11 -type structure as a base material and containing Ce 3+ as a luminescent center. Such a phosphor is a red phosphor that can be excited by green light, and has an ultra-short afterglow property, which contributes to low light output saturation. Therefore, by using such a phosphor as the second phosphor, it is possible to obtain a light emitting device with a high output intensity of the red light component.

The average particle size of the first phosphor and the second phosphor is preferably 15 μm or more and less than 50 μm. The average particle size of the first phosphor and the second phosphor can be obtained by observing the phosphor layer with a scanning electron microscope and measuring the particle sizes of a plurality of phosphors.

In this embodiment, it is preferable that the
Here, the phosphor layer made of an inorganic compound includes a sintered body of a phosphor, a compacted powder of a phosphor, a structure in which phosphor particles are sealed with glass, and a binder and/or fine particles made of an inorganic compound. As a composite obtained by fusing a phosphor and a compound, a composite obtained by fusing a phosphor and alumina can be mentioned.
It is also preferable that the
As shown in FIG. 6, the
Since the
The surface of the
As shown in FIG. 6, the
To emit output light from the
The first fluorescence emitted upward reaches the
Here, in the
In the
Furthermore, in the
As shown in FIG. 6 , in the light-emitting
The light emitting device of this embodiment has a characteristic of reflecting light on the longer wavelength side than the emission peak wavelength of the
The
In addition, as shown in FIG. 7, it is preferable to provide an
In light-emitting
As described above, the light-emitting device of the present embodiment includes the first solid-
Specifically, as shown in FIG. 8, the
In order to emit the
By using the
In the
Furthermore, like the

Thus, the light-emitting
In the light-emitting device of the present embodiment, wavelength conversion to red light by the second phosphor is performed mainly by green light with relatively low light energy, not blue light with high light energy. is made. Therefore, the energy conversion loss associated with the wavelength conversion of the second phosphor is small, and the accompanying heat generation is suppressed, so that the red light component can be efficiently output.
Furthermore, in the light-emitting device of the present embodiment, the first solid-
Although the present embodiment has been described above, the present embodiment is not limited to these, and various modifications are possible within the scope of the gist of the present embodiment. For example, in the light-emitting device of this embodiment, if the wavelength converter has a predetermined strength, it need not be supported by the substrate. Therefore, the light-emitting device of this embodiment may not have a substrate that supports the wavelength converter.
