Description
The present invention relates to a technique for transferring packets between terminals via a relay device.
ソフトウェアルーティングを高速化する技術として、特許文献1などに記載されたMPLS(Multi-Protocol Label Switching)の方式が知られている。 As a technique for speeding up software routing, an MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) method described in Patent Document 1 and the like is known.
In the conventional method (MPLS), a tag called a label is added to an IP packet, and forwarding is performed based on the added label, but this method may cause the following problems.
That is, in order to add a fixed-length label to an IP packet, if a label is added to an IP packet having the maximum MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) length at the time of transmission, the size of the MTU will be exceeded, resulting in a fragment. There is.
In this case, since the IP packet is divided, the load on the CPU increases and the processing may be delayed. Further, in the conventional method, it is necessary to change the label for each hop, which may increase the processing load.
The present invention has been made to solve such a conventional problem, and the packet to be transferred is transferred by switching by using the label MAC address acquired in advance for each relay device instead of the conventional label, and the load is loaded. The solution is to suppress the problem.

It is directly connected to the source terminal and has a table in which the label MAC address of each relay device in the network is recorded.

At this time, the labelless switch 2 behaves as a router as a whole, but since it internally uses a switching plane for forwarding, it can be said to be a switching hub (switch) in that respect. The transit hop
(1) Basic Concept Prior to the explanation of the processing operation of LLES2c, 2f and LLTS2d, 2e, the conventional method (MPLS) will be described.
This conventional method was developed for the purpose of improving routing performance. That is, the router executes the following processes S01 to S04 in the case of normal routing.
S01: The transfer destination is determined by referring to the IP header (up to the payload in some cases).
S02: Decrement the TTL (Time to live) of the IP header, and discard it when the TTL becomes "0".
S03: The IP checksum is recalculated when the TTL is changed.
S04:イーサネット(登録商標)のFCS(Frame Check Sequence)を再計算する。 S04: FCS (Frame Check Sequence) of Ethernet (registered trademark) is recalculated.
The conventional method mainly aims to reduce the processing load of S01. This S01 is mainly transferred based on the destination MAC address of the IP header, but this is not a simple process. That is, it is necessary to search for a matching prefix from the RIB for each forward packet, and the software execution load is high, and in the case of CIDR (classless routing), the load may be even higher.
Therefore, in the conventional method, the determination result of S01 is symbolized in the form of a label, and the label is attached to the transfer packet to reduce the load of the transfer destination determination at the time of routing. However, since the packet size is increased by adding the label as described above, the size after the label is added may exceed the MTU of the line. In this case, fragmentation (division) may occur and the processing load may worsen. In addition, the label must be replaced for each relay hop, and the effect of reducing the processing load is weak.
On the other hand, in the method of the present embodiment, the IP packet to be forwarded is not routed by replacing the destination MAC address, but is forwarded by switching. This enables transfer without executing S01 to S04.
Further, when the L2 switching device is implemented, the switching process can be executed by the ASIC, so that the complete wire rate routing is possible, but the CPU does not have to switch directly, which reduces the load. can.
(2) Acquisition of label MAC address In the packet transfer method of the present embodiment, a MAC address having a special meaning is set in the destination MAC address field of the IP packet instead of pasting the label, instead of the routing plane. Transfer to the destination through the switching plane.
具体的には特定の組織に占有されていない未使用の「OUI(organizationally unique identifier)」下のMACアドレスを、ラベルMACアドレスとして使用する。 The MAC address used here is called the label MAC address. Specifically, a MAC address under an unused "OUI (organizationally unique identifier)" that is not occupied by a specific organization is used as a label MAC address. Hereinafter, this "OUI" will be referred to as a "label OUI".
Specifically, the labelless switches 2a to 2g first acquire their own label MAC address. At this time, the individual
In this advertisement, the advertiser's router ID and the candidate are described as a pair. For example, when the
If a label MAC address that overlaps with the candidate advertised here is already used, for example, if the
When this label advertisement is issued, the candidate becomes invalid, and the advertiser retakes another candidate and re-advertises. Here, whether or not to use the label MAC address is determined by the destination of the advertisement for the candidate, and the right to use the same label MAC address is given to the side advertised first, and the right to use the same label MAC address is given to the side advertised later. I can't.
On the other hand, when the label advertisement is not issued, that is, when the duplicate label MAC address is not used, the candidate is acquired and set as the advertiser's label MAC address. This label MAC address is composed of, for example, a "label OUI" and a "3-byte space" as shown in FIG.
In this way, the label MAC addresses are distributed in the network 1-1 by the labelless switches 2a to 2g advertising each other. The label MAC addresses advertised here are recorded in the label MAC address table 26 of each
Table 1 shows a recording example of the label MAC address table 26. The recorded contents of the table 26 are common to the labelless switches 2a to 2g, and the router ID and the label MAC address of the labelless switches 2a to 2g are paired as one entry.
The labelless switches 2a to 2g execute the route advertisement and the route calculation in parallel with the advertisement / distribution of the label MAC address in the same manner as the normal routing protocol.
(3) FDB registration of label MAC address After the route calculation is converged, the transfer destination interface for all the
Table 2 shows an entry example of the FDB of the
Further, the entry of FDB24 is regarded as a "VLAN-UNAWARE" entry and is excluded from the target of VLAN filtering. As a result, IP packets addressed to the label MAC address will be forwarded by switching instead of routing.
(4) Push Operation in First Hop LLES The push operation performed by the first hop LLES (
S11: The
For example, if a link-state routing protocol such as OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) is executed, all hops on the route from the first hop to the last hop can be obtained, so that the last hop router can be identified and the arrival hop can be obtained. You can calculate the number.
Since the last hop was obtained in S12: S11, the label MAC address table 26 is referred to based on the last hop. That is, the label MAC address corresponding to the router ID of the
S13: The label MAC address acquired in S12 is overwritten in the destination MAC address field d of the IP packet D.
That is, when the IP packet D is received from the terminal 3a, the MAC address of the
S14: The number of hops from the first hop, that is, the

(5) Relay processing in transit hop LLTS Transit hop LLTS executes relay processing similar to normal L2 switching. That is, the IP packet D transmitted in S15 is received by the
After this reception, the
Upon receiving the IP packet D, the
In this way, each LLTS (
各LLTS(ラベルレススイッチ2c,2e)から順次に転送されてきたIPパケットDは、最後に送信先端末3bが直結されたラストホップのLLES(ラベルレススイッチ2f)に受信される。
(6) Pop operation in the last hop LLES The IP packet D sequentially transferred from each LLTS (
Here, it is assumed that the
Therefore, the IP packet D is processed as a normal IP packet by the CPU of the
(A) Since the IP packet D is not labeled with the conventional method (MPLS), the problem of MTU does not occur. That is, since the increase in packet size due to label addition is avoided, there is no possibility that the MTU size will be exceeded after label addition, and deterioration of the processing load due to flagmation can be prevented. In addition, the trouble of changing the label for each hop can be omitted, and the increase in processing load can be suppressed.
(B) Since the LLTS (labelless switches 2c, 2e) between the first hop and the last hop transfers the IP packet D by referring only to the destination MAC address field d, the transfer load can be suppressed to the minimum.
Since the relay process of the LLTS (labelless switches 2c, 2e) can be executed by the ASIC if the relay device is equipped with a switch engine, the transfer at the line rate is possible.
In particular, a switch engine is mounted on a device used for packet relay purposes, and it is not necessary for the CPU to transfer packets, which reduces the burden on the CPU. In addition, since switch engine devices are generally inexpensive, they can be realized at low cost.
(C) As a result of being distributed by the advertisement in AS1-1, one label MAC address is used for each of the labelless switches 2a to 2g. As a result, it is not necessary to implement a complicated protocol for distributing the label MAC address, and the labor of label management is greatly reduced.
(D) Since the TTL subtraction is executed in the first hop (
The present invention is not limited to the above embodiment, and can be modified and implemented within the scope described in each claim. For example, when a new labelless switch is added to AS1-1, the candidate label MAC address of the added labelless switch is advertised in AS1-1. If there is no objection at the time of this advertisement, it can be used as the label MAC address of the labelless switch to which the candidate is added.

It is a method for transferring packets between terminals on the network via a group of relay devices.
The relay device group includes a first hop directly connected to the terminal that is the source of the packet, and
The last hop directly connected to the terminal to which the packet is sent, and
A transit hop that relays between the first hop and the last hop is provided.
Each hop comprises a table in which the label MAC address for each hop is recorded.
The label MAC address is distributed in the network by the hops advertising each other's MAC address of choice, and is recorded in each of the tables.
When the packet is received from the source terminal, the first hop refers to the table, rewrites the destination MAC address field of the packet to the label MAC address, and transfers the packet.
When the transit hop receives the packet in which the label MAC address is described, the transit hop sequentially forwards to the last hop based on the label MAC address.
The last hop is a packet transfer method characterized in that if the packet in which the label MAC address is described is received, it is transferred to the destination terminal.
The relay device arbitrarily selects the candidate of the label MAC address and selects it.
The advertised candidate becomes invalid if it overlaps with the label MAC address in use by the other relay device.
If there is no duplication, it is recorded in each table as the label MAC address.
