Polarizing plates are widely used in image display devices such as liquid crystal display devices. Generally, the polarizing plate has a structure in which a protective film is attached to one or both sides of a polarizing film formed by adsorbing and orienting a dichroic dye such as iodine on a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film.
In recent years, with the expansion of the fields of use of liquid crystal display devices and the progress of peripheral technologies, the demand for the performance of polarizing films has become more stringent. It is known that the polarizing film tends to have a tendency to deteriorate in polarization performance when placed in a high temperature environment, and it is known that the tendency of such deterioration in polarization performance increases as the thickness of the polarizing film decreases. ing. In this specification, the resistance to deterioration of polarization performance due to being placed in a high temperature environment is referred to as "heat resistance".

<Polarizing film>
The polarizing film according to the present invention is made of a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film, and contains cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more. The polarizing film of the present invention containing cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more has excellent heat resistance and can suppress deterioration of polarization performance even when placed in a high temperature environment. .. When the polarizing film according to the present invention is used, it is possible to provide a polarizing plate having excellent heat resistance because it itself has excellent heat resistance.
Explaining the polarization performance of the polarizing film in more detail, the polarization performance is usually evaluated by two parameters called "luminosity factor correction single transmittance Ty" and "luminosity factor correction polarization degree Py". These parameters are the transmittance and the degree of polarization in the visible region (wavelength 380 to 780 nm) corrected so that the weighting around 550 nm, which is the most sensitive to the human eye, is the largest. Light with a wavelength of less than 380 nm is invisible to the human eye and is not considered in Ty and Py.
The luminous efficiency correction single transmittance Ty of the polarizing film of the present invention can be a value usually required in an image display device such as a liquid crystal display device to which the polarizing film or a polarizing plate containing the polarizing film is applied. Is preferably in the range of 40 to 47%. Ty is more preferably in the range of 41-45%, in which case the balance between Ty and Py is better. If Ty is too high, Py is lowered and the display quality of the image display device is lowered. When Ty is excessively low, the brightness of the image display device is lowered and the display quality is lowered, or it is necessary to increase the input power in order to sufficiently increase the brightness.
The luminous efficiency correction polarization degree Py of the polarizing film of the present invention is preferably 99.95% or more, and more preferably 99.99% or more when the luminous efficiency correction single transmittance Ty is 43% or less. The Py after the heat resistance test, which will be described later, is preferably 99.93% or more, more preferably 99.95% or more, from the viewpoint of maintaining the display quality of the image display device even after the test. The amount of change in Py before and after the heat resistance test "Py (before the heat resistance test) -Py (after the heat resistance test)" is preferably 0.055% or less.
The Ty and Py of the polarizing film are measured by themselves as a measurement sample when they exist as a single substance (when they exist alone). On the other hand, when the protective film is present as a polarizing plate bonded on the polarizing film, the protective film and the adhesive layer are removed from the polarizing plate, the polarizing film contained in the polarizing plate is isolated, and this is measured. Ty and Py are measured using a sample or the polarizing plate itself as a measurement sample, and these are used as Ty and Py of the polarizing film. Ty and Py measured using a polarizing plate as a measurement sample and Ty and Py measured using an isolated polarizing film as a measurement sample are substantially the same.
The polarizing film according to the present invention is obtained by adsorbing and orienting iodine as a dichroic dye on a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film, and more specifically, adsorbing and orienting iodine on a uniaxially stretched polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film. It is a thing.
The thickness of the polarizing film can be, for example, 30 μm or less, further 20 μm or less, but is preferably 15 μm or less, and more preferably 10 μm or less, from the viewpoint of thinning the polarizing plate. The thickness of the polarizing film is usually 2 μm or more. The smaller the thickness, the lower the heat resistance, but according to the present invention, it is possible to provide a polarizing film having good heat resistance even if the thickness is 15 μm or less.
As the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin constituting the polarizing film, a saponified polyvinyl acetate-based resin can be used. Examples of the polyvinyl acetate-based resin include polyvinyl acetate, which is a homopolymer of vinyl acetate, and a copolymer of vinyl acetate and another monomer copolymerizable therewith. Examples of other monomers copolymerizable with vinyl acetate include unsaturated carboxylic acids, olefins, vinyl ethers, unsaturated sulfonic acids, and acrylamides having an ammonium group.
A polarizing film is formed by forming a film of the above polyvinyl alcohol-based resin. The method for forming the film of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin is not particularly limited, and the film can be formed by a known method.
The degree of saponification of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin can be in the range of 80.0 to 100.0 mol%, but is preferably in the range of 90.0 to 100.0 mol%, more preferably 98.0. It is in the range of 100.0 mol%. When the saponification degree is less than 80.0 mol%, the water resistance of the obtained polarizing film tends to decrease.
The degree of saponification is the unit ratio (mol%) of the rate at which the acetic acid group (acetoxy group: -OCOCH 3 ) contained in the polyvinyl acetate resin, which is the raw material of the polyvinyl alcohol resin, is changed to a hydroxyl group by the saponification process. It is expressed by the following formula:
Degree of saponification (mol%) = 100 x (number of hydroxyl groups) ÷ (number of hydroxyl groups + number of acetic acid groups)
Defined in. The degree of saponification can be determined in accordance with JIS K 6726 (1994). The higher the saponification degree, the higher the proportion of hydroxyl groups, and therefore the lower the proportion of acetic acid groups that inhibit crystallization.
The polyvinyl alcohol-based resin may be a partially modified polyvinyl alcohol. For example, polyvinyl alcohol-based resins modified with olefins such as ethylene and propylene; unsaturated carboxylic acids such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and crotonic acid; alkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids, (meth) acrylamide and the like can be mentioned. The rate of denaturation is preferably less than 30 mol%, more preferably less than 10%. When the modification exceeds 30 mol%, it becomes difficult to adsorb the dichroic dye, and it tends to be difficult to obtain a polarizing film having sufficient polarizing performance. In addition, in this specification, "(meth) acrylic" means at least one selected from the group consisting of acrylic and methacryl. The same applies to "(meth) acryloyl" and the like.
The average degree of polymerization of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin is preferably 100 to 10000, more preferably 1500 to 8000, and further preferably 2000 to 5000. The average degree of polymerization of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin can also be determined in accordance with JIS K 6726 (1994).
The polarizing film of the present invention contains cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more. Cyclodextrin refers to a non-reducing cyclic oligosaccharide in which glucose is cyclically bound by α-1,4 bonds, and the larger the number of constituent glucosees, the larger the inner diameter of the intramolecular cavity. Since it is known that the inner diameter of the intramolecular cavity of β-cyclodextrin, which is a heptameric, is 0.6 to 0.8 nm, the inner diameter of the intramolecular cavity used in the present invention is 0.6 nm. The above cyclodextrins are not limited as long as the number of constituent glucose is 7 or more. For example, β, γ, δ-cyclodextrin having 7,8,9 constituent glucose, respectively. Branched cyclodextrins in which these β, γ, and δ-cyclodextrins have oligosaccharides such as glucose and marktus in the branched sugar chain, and alkyl groups such as methyl in these cyclodextrins or branched cyclodextrins, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2- Cyclodextrin derivatives and the like to which hydroxyalkyl groups such as hydroxypropyl, 2,3-dihydroxypropyl and 2-hydroxybutyl are bonded are included.
The present invention has been confirmed to have a remarkable effect of improving the heat resistance of the polarizing film by containing cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more in the polarizing film. Remarkable effect of improving the heat resistance of the polarizing film, the intramolecular cavity inner diameter of the intramolecular cavity has more than cyclodextrins 0.6 nm, polyiodine ion contained in the polarizing film (I 3 -, I 5 -) it is estimated to be that provided the results of the interaction of. Since such an interaction is presumed to depend on the size of the intramolecular cavity of the cyclodextrins, it is more than the 7,8-mer cyclodextrins that have been confirmed to have a remarkable effect of improving heat resistance. It is presumed that cyclodextrins having a large intramolecular cavity, that is, cyclodextrins having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more, have the same effect. Note that the intramolecular cavity cyclodextrins have, polyiodine ion (I 3 -, I 5 - ) in order to be able to improve the interaction with the inner diameter of the intramolecular cavity of cyclodextrins It is preferably 0.8 nm or more. The inner diameter of the intramolecular cavity of cyclodextrins is preferably 1.2 nm or less.
The content of cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more in the polarizing film is not limited as long as it can improve heat resistance, but is, for example, 0.01 to 5% by weight. be able to. Such a content can be measured by dissolving a polarizing film in a solvent and analyzing it by liquid chromatography (LC). Further, it is presumed that the stoichiometric ratio of iodine (I 2 ) in the polarizing film and cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more affects the degree of interaction. In the present invention, the stoichiometric ratio of iodine (I 2 ) in the polarizing film and cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more is in the range of 1.5: 1 to 1500: 1. It is preferably in the range of 2.5: 1 to 1000: 1, more preferably 2.5: 1 to 500: 1.

The guide roll and the nip roll can be arranged before and after each treatment bath or in the treatment bath, whereby the film can be introduced and immersed in the treatment bath and pulled out from the treatment bath [see FIG. 3]. For example, by providing one or more guide rolls in each treatment bath and transporting the film along these guide rolls, the film can be immersed in each treatment bath.
In the polarizing film manufacturing apparatus shown in FIG. 3, nip rolls are arranged before and after each treatment bath (nip rolls 50 to 54), whereby the nip rolls arranged before and after the nip rolls in any one or more of the treatment baths.

In the dyeing treatment as well, in order to convey the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film while removing the wrinkles of the film as in the swelling treatment, the guide rolls 33, 34 and / or 35 have a widening function such as an expander roll, a spiral roll, and a crown roll. It is possible to use a roll having the above, or to use other widening devices such as a cross guider, a bend bar, and a tenter clip. Another means for suppressing the occurrence of wrinkles is to perform a stretching treatment as in the swelling treatment.

In the example shown in FIG. 3, the film drawn from the
(Crosslinking process)
The cross-linking treatment step is a treatment performed for the purpose of making the film water-resistant by cross-linking and adjusting the hue (preventing the film from becoming bluish, etc.). With reference to FIG. 3, the cross-linking treatment is carried out along the film transport path constructed by the guide rolls 36 to 38 and the
The cross-linking liquid of the cross-linking bath 17 can be an aqueous solution containing, for example, about 1 to 10 parts by weight of boric acid with respect to 100 parts by weight of water. When the dichroic pigment used in the dyeing treatment is iodine, the cross-linking solution preferably contains iodide in addition to boric acid, and the amount thereof is, for example, 1 to 30 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of water. Can be. Examples of the iodide include potassium iodide and zinc iodide. Further, compounds other than iodide, for example, zinc chloride, cobalt chloride, zirconium chloride, sodium thiosulfate, potassium sulfite, sodium sulfate and the like may coexist.
In the cross-linking treatment, the concentrations of boric acid and iodide and the temperature of the cross-linking bath 17 can be appropriately changed depending on the purpose. For example, when the purpose of the cross-linking treatment is to make the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film water-resistant by cross-linking, and when the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film is subjected to the swelling treatment, the dyeing treatment and the cross-linking treatment in this order, the cross-linking agent-containing liquid in the cross-linking bath has a concentration ratio by weight. It can be a crosslinked solution of boric acid / iodide / water = 3 to 10/1 to 20/100. If necessary, other cross-linking agents such as glyoxal or glutaraldehyde may be used instead of boric acid, or boric acid and other cross-linking agents may be used in combination. The temperature of the cross-linking bath when immersing the film is usually about 50 to 70 ° C., preferably 53 to 65 ° C., and the immersing time of the film is usually about 10 to 600 seconds, preferably 20 to 300 seconds, more preferably. Is 20 to 200 seconds. When the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film stretched in advance before the swelling treatment is subjected to the dyeing treatment and the cross-linking treatment in this order, the temperature of the cross-linking bath 17 is usually about 50 to 85 ° C., preferably 55 to 80 ° C. ..
In the cross-linking treatment for the purpose of adjusting the hue, for example, when iodine is used as the dichroic dye, a cross-linking solution having a concentration of boric acid / iodide / water = 1 to 5/3 to 30/100 in terms of weight ratio is used. Can be used. The temperature of the cross-linking bath when immersing the film is usually about 10 to 45 ° C., and the immersing time of the film is usually about 1 to 300 seconds, preferably 2 to 100 seconds.
As described above, in the cross-linking treatment step, it is also possible to use a cross-linking solution to which cyclodextrins having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more in the intramolecular cavity are added.
The cross-linking treatment may be performed a plurality of times, and is usually performed 2 to 5 times. In this case, the composition and temperature of each crosslinked bath used may be the same or different as long as it is within the above range. The crosslinking treatment for water resistance by crosslinking and the crosslinking treatment for hue adjustment may each be performed in a plurality of steps.
Uniaxial stretching treatment can also be performed in the cross-linked bath 17 by utilizing the difference in peripheral speed between the
In the cross-linking treatment as well, in order to convey the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film while removing the wrinkles of the film as in the swelling treatment, the guide rolls 36, 37 and / or 38 have a widening function such as an expander roll, a spiral roll, and a crown roll.
(Washing process)
The example shown in FIG. 3 includes a cleaning treatment step after the crosslinking treatment step. The cleaning treatment is performed for the purpose of removing excess chemicals such as boric acid and iodine adhering to the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film. The cleaning treatment step is performed, for example, by immersing the crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film in the cleaning
FIG. 3 shows an example in which a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film is immersed in a cleaning
Also in the cleaning treatment, for the purpose of transporting the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film while removing wrinkles, rolls having a widening function such as an expander roll, a spiral roll, and a crown roll are used for the guide rolls 39, 40 and / or 41. Or other widening devices such as cross guiders, bend bars and tenter clips can be used. Further, in the film cleaning treatment, a stretching treatment may be performed in order to suppress the occurrence of wrinkles.
(Stretching process)
As described above, the

(Drying process)
After the cleaning treatment step, it is preferable to carry out a treatment for drying the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film. The drying of the film is not particularly limited, but it can be carried out using the drying
(Other processing steps for polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film)
It is also possible to add a process other than the above process. Examples of treatments that can be added are immersion treatment in an iodide aqueous solution containing no boric acid (complementary color treatment) and immersion treatment in an aqueous solution containing zinc chloride or the like without boric acid, which are performed after the cross-linking treatment step. Zinc treatment) is included.
By the above production method, a polarizing film containing cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more can be produced. Cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more are incorporated into the polarizing film to be incorporated into the polarizing film. Since the effect of improving the heat resistance of the polarizing film is higher, it is most preferable that the polarizing film is added to the cross-linking liquid, then added to the dyeing liquid, and then swelling. It is preferably added to the liquid. Cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more may be added to all of the cross-linking solution, the staining solution, and the swelling solution.
In the above, a method for producing a polarizing film by subjecting a single-layer film, which is a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film, to a predetermined treatment has been described, but the method for producing a polarizing film is not limited to such a method, and the base material A polyvinyl alcohol-based resin layer is formed by applying a coating liquid containing a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin to at least one side of the film, and then the obtained laminated film is subjected to stretching treatment, dyeing treatment, and cross-linking treatment to carry out polyvinyl alcohol-based resin. A method of using the based resin layer as a polarizing film may be used. Also in this method, the present invention can be obtained by using a dyeing solution used in the dyeing treatment or a treatment liquid to which cyclodextrins having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more in the intramolecular cavity are added as the cross-linking liquid used in the cross-linking treatment. A polarizing film containing cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more can be produced. Further, in this method, by adding cyclodextrins having an intramolecular cavity having an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more to a coating liquid containing a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin, the intramolecular cavity has an inner diameter of 0.6 nm or more. It is also possible to produce a polarizing film containing the cyclodextrins of.

<Manufacturing method of polarizing plate>
A polarizing plate can be obtained by laminating a protective film on at least one surface of the polarizing film produced as described above via an adhesive. The adhesive and the protective film are as described above.
