Description
図1は、本開示のある実施形態による面発光光源の例示的な構成を示す。図1に示す面発光光源200は、上面210aを有する導光板210と、導光板210の下方に位置する層状の光反射部材240とを含む。なお、図1には、説明の便宜のために、互いに直交するX方向、Y方向およびZ方向を示す矢印があわせて図示されている。本開示の他の図面においてもこれらの方向を示す矢印を図示することがある。
導光板110Aは、発光素子120からの光を拡散させて上面110aから出射させる機能を有する。本実施形態において、複数の導光板110Aの上面110aの集合は、面発光光源200の発光面を構成する。
再び図3を参照する。発光素子120の典型例は、LEDである。図3に例示する構成おいて、発光素子120は、素子本体122と、発光素子120の上面120aとは反対側に位置する電極124とを有する。素子本体122は、例えば、サファイアまたは窒化ガリウム等の支持基板と、支持基板上の半導体積層構造とを含む。半導体積層構造は、n型半導体層およびp型半導体層と、これらに挟まれた活性層とを含む。半導体積層構造は、紫外〜可視域の発光が可能な窒化物半導体(InxAlyGa1-x-yN、0≦x、0≦y、x+y≦1)を含んでいてもよい。この例では、発光素子120の上面120aは、素子本体122の上面に一致している。電極124は、正極および負極の組を含み、半導体積層構造に所定の電流を供給する機能を有する。
図3に例示する構成において、波長変換部材150は、第2穴部20の内部であって導光板110Aと発光素子120との間に配置されている。換言すれば、波長変換部材150は、発光素子120の上方であって第2穴部20の底部に位置する。ここで、「第2穴部20の底部」とは、導光板の下面110bを上に向けたときの第2穴部20の底に相当する部分を意味する。このように、本明細書では、発光モジュールについて図面に表された姿勢に拘泥することなく、「底部」および「底面」の用語を使用することがある。図3に示す例において、第2穴部20の底部は、発光モジュール100Aを図3に示す姿勢としたとき、導光板110Aの下面110b側に形成されるドーム状の構造の天井部分であるともいえる。
第1接合部材160は、発光素子120の側面の少なくとも一部を覆う透光性の部材である。図3に模式的に示すように、典型的には、第1接合部材160は、発光素子120の上面120aと波長変換部材150との間に位置する層状の部分を有する。
第2光反射部材170は、波長変換部材150の下面側(導光板110Aとは反対側)に位置する、光反射性を有する部材である。図3に示すように、第2光反射部材170は、第1接合部材160の外面、発光素子120の側面のうち第1接合部材160に覆われていない部分、および、発光素子120の、上面120aとは反対側に位置する下面のうち電極124を除く領域を覆う。第2光反射部材170は、電極124の側面を覆い、他方、電極124の下面は、第2光反射部材170の下面から露出される。
上述したように、発光体100Uは、第2接合部材190により第2穴部20の底部に配置される。図3に示すように、第2接合部材190の少なくとも一部は、第2穴部20の内部に位置する。第2接合部材190は、第2穴部20の底部と波長変換部材150との間に位置する部分を有していてもよい。図3に示すように、第2接合部材190は、導光板110Aの下面110bよりも導光板110Aの上面110aとは反対側に盛り上がった部分を有し得る。
第1光反射部材140は、光反射性を有し、導光板110Aの下面110bの少なくとも一部を覆う。ここでは、第1光反射部材140は、導光板110Aの下面110bに加えて第2接合部材190をも覆っている。この例のように第2接合部材190を第1光反射部材140で覆うことにより、第2接合部材190からの導光板110Aの下面110b側への光の漏れを抑制して光の取出し効率を向上させ得る。
発光モジュール100Aは、第1光反射部材140の下面140b上に位置する配線層180をさらに有し得る。図3に示すように、配線層180は、発光素子120の電極124に電気的に接続された配線を含む。この例では、配線層180は、第2光反射部材170上に位置するように描かれているが、配線層180は、第1光反射部材140の下面140b上に位置する部分を含み得る。

Claims (11)
- 第1穴部が設けられた上面および前記上面とは反対側の下面を有する導光板と、
前記第1穴部に対向して前記導光板の下面側に配置された発光素子と
を備え、
前記導光板の前記上面は、複数の凸部を含む第1領域を有し、
平面視において単位面積あたりに前記複数の凸部が占める割合は、前記発光素子を中心として同心円状に増大しており、
前記複数の凸部は、第1凸部および前記第1凸部よりも前記発光素子から離れた位置にある第2凸部を含み、
平面視において、前記第2凸部は、前記第1凸部よりも大きなサイズを有する、発光モジュール。 - 前記導光板の前記上面は、前記第1穴部を取り囲む環状で、平坦面からなる第2領域をさらに有し、
前記第1領域は、前記第2領域の外側に位置し、前記第2領域を取り囲んでいる、請求項1に記載の発光モジュール。 - 前記第1領域は、
外側領域と、
前記外側領域よりも前記発光素子の近くに位置する内側領域と
を含み、
前記複数の凸部のうち前記外側領域に位置する一群の凸部は、平面視において共通の第1サイズを有し、かつ、前記複数の凸部のうち前記内側領域に位置する他の一群の凸部は、平面視において共通の第2サイズを有する、請求項1または2に記載の発光モジュール。 - 前記第1凸部および前記第2凸部のそれぞれは、平面視において円形状を有する、請求項3に記載の発光モジュール。
- 前記円形状の直径は、前記外側領域において前記内側領域よりも大きい、請求項4に記載の発光モジュール。
- 前記複数の凸部の数密度は、前記発光素子から離れるに従って増大している、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の発光モジュール。
- 前記複数の凸部の配置ピッチは、前記発光素子から離れるに従って縮小している、請求項1から6のいずれかに記載の発光モジュール。
- 前記導光板の前記下面は、前記第1穴部に対向する位置に第2穴部を有し、
前記発光素子は、平面視において前記第2穴部の内側に位置する、請求項1から7のいずれかに記載の発光モジュール。 - 前記第2穴部の内部であって前記発光素子と前記導光板との間に位置する波長変換部材をさらに備える、請求項8に記載の発光モジュール。
- 前記発光素子は、前記導光板とは反対側に電極を有し、
前記発光モジュールは、前記導光板の前記下面の少なくとも一部を覆う光反射部材をさらに備える、請求項1から9のいずれかに記載の発光モジュール。 - 請求項1から10のいずれかに記載の発光モジュールを複数備える面発光光源であって、
前記複数の発光モジュールは、二次元に配列されている、面発光光源。
