Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus and a method for deriving the surface roughness of a photoreceptor for the image forming apparatus.
In an image forming apparatus typified by a multifunction peripheral, after an image of a document is read by an image reading unit, a photosensitive member charged by a charging device is exposed based on the read image data, and the photosensitive member is exposed on the photosensitive member. An electrostatic latent image is formed. Thereafter, a charged toner is supplied onto the formed electrostatic latent image to form a visible image, and then the toner is transferred and fixed on a sheet, and is discharged out of the apparatus.
Untransferred toner remaining on the photoconductor is physically removed from the surface of the photoconductor by a cleaning blade (hereinafter also simply referred to as “blade”). The blade is provided in contact with the rotating photosensitive member. The surface of the photoconductor is provided with an appropriate uneven shape in advance in order to reduce the contact area from the viewpoint of reducing the load on the abutting blade. About this uneven | corrugated shape, it forms with the photosensitive layer provided by film-forming in the surface layer of the aluminum raw tube used as the core material of a photoreceptor.
As the number of printed sheets in the image forming apparatus increases, the convex portion of the concavo-convex shape provided on the surface of the photoreceptor is scraped. That is, as the durability progresses, the surface of the photoreceptor is smoothed. As a result, the contact area between the photosensitive member and the blade increases. Further, as the number of printed sheets increases, discharge products generated in the charging device gradually adhere to and accumulate on the surface of the photoreceptor. As a result, the load on the blade is increased, the slipping of the external additive contained in the toner is increased, and contamination of the charging roller proceeds, which is not preferable.
Therefore, the setting of the image forming conditions is changed to reduce the load on the blade when the number of printed sheets is increased. Specifically, for example, in setting image forming conditions, a toner as a lubricant is appropriately supplied to the photoconductor side at a predetermined timing to reduce the slipping amount of the external additive, or a charging bias applied to the photoconductor The voltage is lowered to suppress the generation of discharge products.
A technique related to a photoreceptor provided in an image forming apparatus is disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2007-108421 (Patent Document 1).
If the toner is excessively supplied to improve the lubricity of the surface of the photoconductor, the amount of abrasive contained in the toner will slip through the blade and adhere to the surface of the photoconductor, contaminating the photoconductor. Will end up. It is also desirable to suppress the generation of discharge products as efficiently as possible. Therefore, in order to improve the image quality in the image forming apparatus, it is necessary to set more accurate image forming conditions. In other words, in order to more appropriately reduce the load on the blade, an appropriate charging bias voltage value is set according to the actual surface roughness of the photoconductor, or the timing of supplying toner as a lubricant is set. There is a need to.
Here, it is difficult to strictly measure the surface roughness of the photoreceptor for each use state of the image forming apparatus. Therefore, in recent years, it is only converted to the value of the surface roughness of the photosensitive member, inferred from the durable number of image forming apparatuses, that is, the total number of image formations formed so far and the total driving time. As a result, the image forming conditions are set by setting the surface roughness different from the actual surface roughness, and the image quality cannot be improved with high accuracy. The technique disclosed in Patent Document 1 described above cannot cope with this.
An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus with improved image quality.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for deriving the surface roughness of a photoreceptor for an image forming apparatus that can accurately detect the surface roughness of the photoreceptor for an image forming apparatus.
The inventors of the present application diligently studied the mechanism of smoothing the surface of the photoreceptor associated with durability. First to fourth

Next, the configuration of the toner
FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram illustrating the configuration of the toner

The

The toner density of the patch image primarily transferred from the photoreceptors 42 a to 42 d onto the
The rotation
After the rotation

Here, the length between a plurality of patch images will be described. FIG. 6 is a graph showing the interval between patch images, that is, the relationship between the length between a plurality of patch images and the number of printed sheets. In FIG. 6, the vertical axis indicates the interval (mm) between patch images, and the horizontal axis indicates the number of printed sheets (k sheets). In addition, k sheet | seat shows a kilo sheet, ie, 1000 sheets. Here, the plotted
Referring to FIG. 6, as the number of printed sheets increases, the interval between patch images becomes longer. Here, the interval between the patch images and the number of printed sheets do not have a direct proportional relationship, and as indicated by the curve connecting the
Next, the contents of the process for deriving the surface roughness of the
Referring to FIG. 7, first, when it is determined that the predetermined timing for adjusting the toner density has been reached (in FIG. 7, YES in step S11, hereinafter, “step” is omitted), the toner density is adjusted. . Here, first, the toner density is adjusted in the initial stage. In this case, the patch
FIG. 8 is a diagram illustrating a state in which
Referring to FIG. 8, five
Here, in FIG. 8, for the direction of rotation of the length of 42d
As shown in FIG. 9, the
Here, the rotation
When the rotation of the
The
In this case, the length L 3 of the
In this case, since the initial toner density is adjusted (YES in S16), the toner density is adjusted from the detected toner density, the length L 3 of each of the
Next, the case after endurance will be described. Referring to FIG. 7 again, if it is determined that the predetermined timing for adjusting the toner density has been reached (YES in S11), the toner density is adjusted. Specifically, the timing after the endurance is, for example, the timing when the number of printed sheets or the number of images formed reaches a predetermined number, or the timing when the total driving time of the multifunction peripheral 11 reaches a predetermined driving time. It is. In this case, similarly to the above, the patch
Then, the
Here, the rotation
When the rotation of the
The
In this case, (in S16, NO) for an adjustment of the toner density after the durability, the length L 5 and length measurements of L 6, and length are stored in the
Thereafter, based on the derived surface roughness of the
According to such a
