Description
The present invention relates to a thermal transfer sheet.
As a general thermal transfer sheet used in a printer, a thermal transfer sheet in which a color material layer and / or a transferable protective layer is provided on one side of a substrate and a back layer is provided on the other side of the substrate. Are known. According to this thermal transfer sheet, after a transfer material such as a thermal transfer image receiving sheet and a color material layer or a transferable protective layer of the thermal transfer sheet are overlapped with each other, a back layer and a heating device such as a thermal head are attached. An image is formed on the transfer medium by contacting and moving on the back layer while applying energy according to image information to the heating device such as the thermal head, or a transferable protective layer is formed on the image. can do.
By the way, when the slippage of the back layer is low at the time of image formation or transfer transfer of the transferable protective layer, the thermal transfer sheet is wrinkled at the time of image formation. Printing wrinkles will occur. Therefore, in order not to cause printing wrinkles in the formed image, it is necessary to impart sufficient lubricity to the back layer of the thermal transfer sheet. Various proposals have been made for thermal transfer sheets focusing on the slipperiness of the back layer. For example,
By the way, although phosphate ester has the above-mentioned advantages, it has strong acidity, and when phosphate ester is contained alone as a lubricant component in order to give lubricity to the back layer, phosphate ester is a thermal head. This causes the heating element to corrode and wear. Then, when image formation is continued using a thermal head in which the heating element is corroded and worn, there arises a problem that the formed image becomes rough.
Although it does not pay attention to the corrosive wear of the heating element of the thermal head due to the acid of the phosphate ester, Patent Document 2 describes the acid of the phosphate ester when storing the thermal transfer sheet having the back layer containing the phosphate ester. The main problem is to dissolve the dye layer and prevent the problem of density reduction and uneven printing during printing, and a back layer containing both phosphate ester and polyglycerol fatty acid ester has been proposed. . Specifically, it contains a polyglycerin fatty acid ester and a phosphoric acid ester, the ratio of the polyglycerin fatty acid ester and the phosphoric acid ester is 10: 1 to 1: 2 by weight, and the polyglycerin fatty acid ester and phosphoric acid. A back layer has been proposed in which the total content of the ester is 10 to 50% by weight of the heat resistant slipping layer.
However, in the back layer proposed in Patent Document 2, although the content of phosphate ester is reduced, the back layer still contains phosphate ester. With this configuration, it is difficult to completely suppress the corrosion wear of the heating element of the thermal head. In addition, the polyglycerol fatty acid ester proposed in Patent Document 2 is less slippery than the phosphate ester, and the slipperiness of the back layer is lowered by the amount that the phosphate ester is replaced with the polyglycerol fatty acid ester. Therefore, sufficient slipperiness cannot be imparted to the back layer.
Another approach for preventing the corrosive wear of the heating element of the thermal head is to use a back layer that does not use an acidic phosphate ester, in other words, a neutral lubricant component such as metal soap, fatty acid amide, etc. There is a method of forming a back layer containing a lubricant component. However, these neutral lubricant components are solid lubricants, and when a solid lubricant is included to the extent that sufficient lubricity can be imparted to the back layer, the presence of the solid lubricant protruding from the surface of the back layer The smoothness of the back layer is lost, and as a result, roughness or the like is generated in the obtained image. In addition, some of the polyglycerol fatty acid esters proposed in Patent Document 2 exist in a solid state at room temperature, and even when such a polyglycerol fatty acid ester is contained in the back layer, a metal soap Similar to the fatty acid amide, roughness or the like occurs in the obtained image.
The present invention has been made in view of such a situation, and provides a thermal transfer sheet having a back layer having sufficient lubricity and excellent smoothness without corroding a heating element of a thermal head. Is the main issue.
(In the formula, n is a positive number including 0.)
Moreover, the said back surface layer may contain the said polyglyceryl fatty acid ester within the range of 2 mass% or more and 20 mass% or less with respect to the solid content total amount of the said back surface layer.
Moreover, the said back surface layer may further contain the metal soap and / or fatty acid amide within the range of 1% by mass or more and 8% by mass or less with respect to the total solid content of the back layer.
According to the thermal transfer sheet of the present invention, it is possible to form an image with sufficient lubricity without causing corrosive wear on the heating element of the thermal head.
Hereinafter, the thermal transfer sheet of the present invention will be specifically described with reference to the drawings. 1 to 3 are schematic cross-sectional views showing an example of the thermal transfer sheet of the present invention.
As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the

(Back layer)
As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, a back layer 5 is provided on the surface of the
Condition 1: The back surface layer 5 does not substantially contain an acidic lubricant component.
Condition 2: The ratio in which R in the following general formula (1) is a fatty acid residue is 50% or more with respect to the total number of R in the following general formula (1).
Condition 3: The melting point of the polyglycerin fatty acid ester of Condition 2 is 25 ° C. or lower.
The back layer 5 contains a binder resin and a polyglycerin fatty acid ester represented by the following general formula (1) as essential components. The polyglycerol fatty acid ester represented by the following general formula (1) is a neutral lubricant component. In the present invention, as
When the protective layer of the thermal head is corroded and worn, the contact between the thermal head and the thermal transfer sheet becomes non-uniform, energy transfer varies, and the formed image tends to be rough.
(R in the formula is a hydrogen atom or a fatty acid residue, and n (degree of polymerization) is a positive number including 0.)
In the present specification, “substantially does not contain an acidic lubricant component” means that the content of the acidic lubricant component is less than 0.1% by mass relative to the total solid content of the back layer 5. It means that there is. As long as the content of the acidic lubricant component is within the above range, no corrosion wear occurs on the heating element of the thermal head, and the effects of the present invention can be achieved.
In the present specification, “an acidic lubricant component” means a lubricant component having an acid value of 50 or more. When the back layer 5 contains a lubricant component having an acid value of 50 or more, the heating element of the thermal head is corroded and worn. Examples of the lubricant component having an acid value of 50 or more include phosphate esters. Moreover, an acid value means the mg number of KOH required in order to neutralize all the acidic groups contained in 1 g of lubricant components.
In the present invention, the back surface layer 5 does not contain an acid-containing lubricant component, for example, a phosphoric acid ester known as a lubricant component that imparts good lubricity to the back surface layer. In order to impart lubricity, it is necessary that the polyglycerol fatty acid ester itself has good lubricity. In addition, in a conventionally well-known polyglycerol fatty acid ester, even if the said well-known polyglycerol fatty acid ester is included in the back layer independently as a lubricant component, sufficient lubricity cannot be obtained. Here, when this inventor earnestly examined about the lubricity provided to the back surface layer 5 by the polyglyceryl fatty acid ester of the said General formula (1), with respect to the total number of R in General formula (1), R The slipperiness imparted to the back surface layer 5 differs depending on the ratio of the fatty acid residue, and the ratio of the R to the fatty acid residue is 50% or more with respect to the total number of R in the general formula (1). In this case, it was found that sufficient slipperiness can be imparted to the back layer 5.
Therefore, in the present invention, as shown in the above condition 2, the R is a fatty acid residue with respect to the total number of R in the general formula (1) of the polyglycerol fatty acid ester represented by the general formula (1). It is an essential condition that the ratio is 50% or more. For example, when n in the general formula (1) is “0”, the total number of R is “4”. In this case, at least “2” or more R is a fatty acid residue. When n in the general formula (1) is “8”, the total number of R is “12”. In this case, at least “6” or more R is a fatty acid residue. All R may be fatty acid residues. Hereinafter, the “number of Rs as fatty acid residues / total number of Rs” in the general formula (1) may be referred to as esterification rate.
According to the back layer 5 containing the polyglycerin fatty acid ester satisfying the above condition 2, even when the polyglycerin fatty acid ester is used alone as a lubricant component, sufficient lubricity can be imparted to the back layer. As a result, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of printing wrinkles during image formation or transfer formation of the transferable protective layer. In summary, the smoothness of the back layer 5 is improved by Condition 2.
In the present invention, the condition that the esterification rate of the polyglycerol fatty acid ester is 50% may be satisfied. However, when the purpose is to further improve the lubricity, the esterification rate is 75% or more. It is preferable. According to the polyglycerol fatty acid ester having an esterification rate of 75% or more, further improvement in lubricity can be expected.
In general formula (1), the number of n indicating the degree of polymerization is not limited. If the condition that the esterification rate is 50% or more is satisfied, sufficient slipperiness is imparted to the back layer 5 regardless of the number of n. can do. Although there is no limitation in particular about an upper limit, normally known glycerin fatty acid ester n is about ten.
Moreover, in this invention, as shown in the said
According to the polyglycerin fatty acid ester satisfying the
In addition, even if it is a polyglyceryl fatty acid ester satisfying the above condition 2, if it does not satisfy the condition that the melting point of the
The fatty acid residue contained in the polyglycerin fatty acid ester is not particularly limited. For example, lauric acid residue, palmitic acid residue, stearic acid residue, isostearic acid residue, oleic acid residue, caprylic acid residue, myristic acid Residues, behenic acid residues, erucic acid groups and the like can be mentioned. Moreover, the polyglycerol fatty acid ester may contain a different fatty acid residue in one molecule.
Although there is no limitation on the carbon chain length of the fatty acid residue, the longer the carbon chain length of the fatty acid residue, the better the lubricity than the polyglycerol fatty acid ester containing a fatty acid residue having a shorter number of carbon chains. Tend to. Therefore, it is preferable that the polyglycerin fatty acid ester contains a fatty acid residue having a long carbon chain length. Specifically, the polyglycerin fatty acid ester contains a fatty acid residue having a carbon chain length of 18 or more. It is preferable. More specifically, polyglycerol fatty acid esters containing a stearic acid residue, an isostearic acid residue, an oleic acid residue, an erucic acid residue, and the like are preferable.
Preferred polyglycerin fatty acid esters include, for example, diglycerin triisostearate, diglycerin tetraisostearate, tetraglycerin pentaoleate, hexaglycerin pentaoleate, decaglycerin nonaisostearate, decaglycerin dekaorate, decaglycerin octael. Examples thereof include Kate and decaglycerin heptaoleate. The back layer 5 may contain one kind of polyglycerin fatty acid ester alone, or may contain two or more kinds of polyglycerin fatty acid esters in combination.

Further, the back surface layer 5 may contain a solid lubricant. By making the back surface layer 5 contain a solid lubricant together with the polyglycerin fatty acid ester satisfying the
As the solid lubricant, metal soap, fatty acid amide which is a fatty acid derivative, and the like are preferable. The melting point of the solid lubricant is not particularly limited, but it is preferable to use a solid lubricant having a melting point of 80 ° C. or higher.

These other lubricant components are preferably 5% by mass or less based on the total solid content of the back layer 5.

The thermal transfer sheets of the Examples and Comparative Examples obtained above were set in a sublimation type transfer printer (DS-40, manufactured by DNP Photolcio Co., Ltd.), and placed in a low temperature and low humidity environment (5 ° C., 20%) for 3 hours. After leaving it to stand, 400 solid black (255/255 gradation) images were continuously printed on DS-40 genuine image receiving paper. Thereafter, three patterns of 195/255 gradation, 135/255 gradation, and 75/255 gradation were printed on the image receiving paper to form an image of each pattern. It was visually confirmed whether or not the images of the obtained patterns had roughness, and the roughness was evaluated based on the following evaluation criteria. The evaluation results are shown in Table 1. Roughness refers to innumerable extremely small density unevenness seen in the entire image coloring portion, and means that there is no head wear as much as there is no roughness.
